Nova just made another $0.05. Planning and construction has begun on my On30 traction layout, the Hanover, Rochester & Tidewater (HR&T). O (1:48) scale streetcars running on HO (1:87) scale track… with live overhead catenary. I’m a Milwaukee Road girl and am looking forward to the MILW and/or Pacific Extension episode(s). I’m also a Pennsy fan and absolutely love the GG1. Justin, Nova, Liam, Victoria and Gareth did a phenomenal job with this episode. One of my top 5 favorites. (Also, kudos to Devon for excellent editing, as usual!)

Fun Fact for all the trans women here, there is a real railroad with the reporting mark HRT. it's called the Hartwell and its roster is entirely old EMD units in their previous road's paint. Though the paint on some unit's is more beat-up than others. However because god is cruel, the railroad is in Georgia.

@5:03 you got the video wrong. i blew off the handle in the comments on the video where you were riding up and down the elevator, not the escalator. albeit i did ask you to check if you left a franklin episode at the top of the escalator. it was the elevator ride that broke the camel's back.

I think I can shed some light on how the quill drive works! The "quill" is a hollow tube that's concentric to the wheel axle, and its rotary motion is coupled to the wheels via six lugs on each side that fit into holes in the drive wheels. This is what gave it the little bit of wiggle, which it presumably needed since the quill drive rode in a bearing that was rigidly attached to the frame of the traction motor

I used to be a road foreman 12 years ago.Some of the older engineers I managed ran GG-1s in there younger days. One engineer told me if they were working with a freight train with a G at 70 MPH. If they had an approach signal. He would make a brake application. Then cut out the brake valve while moving. So to put the brake handle in suspension to appease the cab signal and not break a knuckle on the train.

I have seen a weekday midday Cascades train consisting of a brand new Charger loco, ONE OR TWO Amfleets, and a Cabbage ex-F40PH. DEFINITELY NOT THREE coaches. Gates come down, train passed SO FAST I almost did not see it. I'd swear it was shorter than a TriMet S70 married pair. Can confirm, Horizons are theoretically gone from the PNW. Portland Trains Pride!
