Too busy trainspotting to look at cars.
I've only owned 1 vehicle my whole life yet, but I have a question. If my Ford Ranger has had nearly every single part replaced at least once, is it still the same vehicle?
The Ranger of Theseus
In the book "Car Wars" by Jonathan Mantle, he talks about a Brit who gets a call from MI5 after returning from a trip to Czechoslovakia in the late 80s/early 90s. MI5 wants to ask him if he saw anything they might find interesting during his trip. He tells them about a prototype he saw at the Tatra factory he toured. It was basically an MWRAP, long before the US military-industrial complex had thought of such a thing. MI5 was shocked, saying that they'd never heard of such a thing and that they had nothing comparable in the British Army. But, at least it was only a prototype, they said. To which the person who'd gone to the factory replied, "Yes. They'd only built 200 of them."
I love audio posts for listening on my communist school issued laptop.
I think you're all collectively Hitler. Like a giant final solution voltron. Milkshakes the head
The Volvo 140 might as well be a communist car too. World’s fair episode next to compliment the ollimpicks
The Lane Motor Museum is the best car museum in the USA. If you ever visit be sure to take a basement tour where half of the collection is kept.
1995 Mazda B2300 age 16-18 (Ford Ranger, automatic) 1995ish Ford Ranger age 18-25ish (manual) 2000 Toyota Sequoia age 25-now (bought from my parents who bought it brand new in 2000)
Only car I've ever owned was a 2008 automatic suzuki swift in a burnt metallic orange, called her Flo. Despite my bones not wanting to drive manual I'm eternally hoping I can get my hands on either something yugo -esc or a kei truck. Something, tiny, a bit silly and hard wearing as anything
There's a kei truck dealer in Durham, NC. One of my neighbors has one
A special edition of Cluedo would be good
carmmunism is when car but no pictures
Oooooooh, lemme see. I've had: 2001 Citroen Zsara, damn trying was cursed. Got rid of it after 3 months. 2010 Citroen C4 Diesel: Wife is still driving it and getting 60mpg 2008 Peugeot 308 Diesel Wagon: Unbelievable thing. Probably still getting 65mpg somewhere I think that's all the French cars I've had
I just subscribed, I adore the podcast, have listened for years, and have learned more from y’all than my literal college professor’s (note: I have dropped out of college twice now)!
TWICE!? Must be expensive long-term.
The VDV is great because what if you made a mechanized airbourne force, except airbourne ops have proven themselves as very stupid things to do against an even moderately motivated enemy, so now you have an extremely half baked mechanized force that you've such 2/3rds of your competent soldiers in. That said, I will never not fuck with the BMD, they're extremely cool.
"It's only two dollars" isn't a good excuse for a low effort episode when you put the exact same effort into every episode.
it's still only two dollars
@nova plz have Victoria on KJB to watch My Cousin Vinny. I have no good argument for why this falls within KJB's remit(?).
Recently watched it for the first time, and as a southerner, it's one of the most realistic and respectful portrayals of southern people in movies I've ever seen.
THE NAZI KILLING CARS! I've seen these in person and they look SO COOL
November listening to Liam threaten to beat Roz with gifted hard drives that have not been installed: this too is yuri
Yay Victoria and Yay marriage!
Those of us who fall asleep listening to Liam's dulcet tones salute you.
If you're referring to the podcast in general, same here. If you're referring to Liam's screaming goat impression at the start then you may need an audiologist. Or a psych
Yeah, the Polski Fiat had a presence well after the end of Communism. If memory serves me right, you still saw them on the streets until the mid 00s. Miss those little guys.
The cz75 in my truck compels me to agree that bohemian machinery is in fact superior to German machinery in spite of my German heritage.
The Germans looked at the M16 and came up with the overbuilt, overweight, overpriced monstrosity of the HK416, a rifle that must have irons and lasers rezeroed after every cleaning. The Czechs looked at the AK and made it light, accurate, and gentler on the shoulders with a comfortable ish folding stock
I'm the most cynical jaded person but I went "AWW!" out loud when I heard about Victoria getting engaged through the show.
These are the kinds of cars that will be built under the regime of Steer Carmer
I feel like there was a real missed opportunity with the nickname "Nova" for "November" instead of "Dr. No" (or a derivative)
Can’t look at cars when I’m driving in one
Who doesn't like looking at cars? I bought a whole book about looking at cars! (thanks Victoria)
Tbh, the reason cars don't appeal to me is that they break easily and require more maintenance than most other consumer mechanical machines. I need my gears to last forever or at least be able to Ship of Theseus it for the next 50 years. The anxiety of maintaining an classic car and avoiding fender benders would destroy me
Thank you for the quick audio upload!
I hate looking at cars
