I am aware that there are a few bugs/glitches with this mod. It is an older mod and is in need of a rework with how certain parts function. A massive overhaul is in the works, a full remake of the mod (no release date set yet). Lots of parts need remaking, better tuning etc now that I have a better understanding. If you have followed the download instructions and the mod still does not work, please just remove from your game as no updates will be coming. The mod is being remade, not abandoned. Calling all history players, cottage lovers and forest fanatics! (and all those in-between!)
I have a little something you may enjoy. I have been working tirelessly to overhaul my medieval cookbook, so much that it not only includes a bounty of new recipes but also new ingredients and activities for your sims!
So lets get to it :
Gather your own ingredients!
Sims can go hunting and foraging in the forest to gather fresh new ingredients for the abundance of new recipes. There's plenty of game to be caught but also new nuts and a variety of fruits and veggies to be used for homemade meals! But be careful, there's bears in the forest and your sim may come home with more than they bargained for!
Village Shoppe and activities!
Don't fancy taking the risk to gather food supplies? Head down to the Village and visit the farmers markets and shops available. Keep an eye on the rotating stock and varying opening times so you don't leave empty handed! Had a rough encounter with a certain Mor'du? Give praise to the watcher and see if they are kind enough to relieve your discomfort or perhaps the more costly option of visiting the village physician.
A new old way of cooking!
Take your sims back to the good old days with a brand 'new' open fire cooking experience. Light the fire and keep it burning day and night to keep your sims nice and warm. Watch as your sims stoke the fire while cooking their favourite meals.

✨ Downloading the mod✨
I have packaged the files using WinRAR. Once you have extracted the file (simply right click, extract here) a folder should appear. Inside that folder everything should be organised so it's easier to understand.
Please read all file names carefully! They will help explain what you need to do to install this mod. And the READ ME note which is helpful for installing this mod as it goes into more detail!
There will be 6 sub folders:
The Cookbook - this is the main download, you will need this.
Required animation - only choose 1. EA or Custom oven ( which has a poke fire animation that fits well with the custom oven I made)
Grand meals - only choose 1 of these, Base Game or Seasons
Optional below - delete folders if you only want the cookbook and recipes.
Custom Ovens - optional
The Sign Post - optional if you want some extra gameplay such as the hunting and ingredients.
Cottage Living & Eco Lifestyle Wool/Dye Add on
I recommend placing your chosen files into 1 folder so that it is easier for your game to read and for you to find for future updates.

❔ Where to find the custom content in game ❔
The Sign Post can be found in the outdoor activities.
The custom ovens can be found in the stoves section. (custom ovens also have a custom pie menu that only displays the new medieval recipes!)
And the cookbook remains in the small appliances section in the kitchen.

Due to the size of this project and the amount of time and effort I have put into it I have decided to create a patron early access version for any 'larger' additions I make to the mod. The Public version will be updated once the early access period is over. I am making these updates accessible to all patron tiers straight away for the early access period.
Early Access Version here - any bug fixes, minor changes will go straight to public. Only larger additions that take a lot of time will go into early access first.

How do you use the animal fat to make lard for cooking? I don't have EcoLifeStyle but the animal fat is showing up in my game. I know you need EcoLifeStyle to make candles, but do you also need it to make the lard for cooking?
Unfortunately I never actually got around to making the animal fat to lard recipe even though it says there is one.. but it will be coming in the update :)
is this compatible with patch updates?
ive downloaded the rar but it doesnt show in game
I've noticed that "homemade butter" doesn't seem to count towards recipes needing butter. Same with the cheese. My sim keeps making loads of butter and cheese. But then the recipes needing those items don't recognize them.
Since I don't see a response and I was having trouble with this, for the homemade butter and flour at least, when you make them the result is a "batch" serving, and the recipe will only recognize the single serving. So if you make the homemade butter or flour, you can click on it and then click 'Pick up a serving,' and that individual serving should work as the ingredient for the recipes.

The yarn dying is not working properly it makes all the wool either white or beige. If it is in inventory it says and looks the proper color, but not when it is set out for like sale or something. I took that package of the mod out and the yarn went to the proper colors. Put it back in and it went back to white or beige.
Hello, I keep getting a Last Exception for this mod. Is there an updated version elsewhere? -Update- I realized I was missing the main download file! Sorry for the confusion!
when i download this, it comes up as one file. not a folder with the option to extract.
totally just out of curiosity, and forgive me if you've answered this before, but do you ever plan on adding more recipes/harvestables/etc to this mod? to be clear, it's perfect as is and i truly can't imagine playing decades without this and grannies cookbook; your food mods are really truly incredible and i am super grateful for them
Yes, I have so many plans to expand this but grannies cookbook has sort of taken most of my time. I'm trying to get myself better organised so I can dedicate more time to this mod. Hopefully when I can start playing my save again i'll get motivated to add some of my ideas :)
it is not showing up in my game at all
Hello :) I have tried to download this many times and it is not downloading as a zip file just a rar file and there is nothing to unzip so it doesn't show up in my game. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi, it's a .rar file. You could try using winrar to extract it. I'm not sure why some people have this problem.. it could be because it's quite a large download. I'm looking at other ways to package the files for an easier download.

Hey there, the Fried fowl meal is not recognizing the flour, and will not allow me to prepare it. I made sure I had flour in the fridge and in my sims inventory and it still will now let her make it. Thanks!
Hi, thank you for letting me know which recipe - I missed updating the recipe for the new flour and it still had the tuning for the old flour. I have fixed it now, update coming shortly 😊

Yes they should all work off the grid 😊
No because they can use other stoves. I thinking it must be because I use the late Scumbumbo's don't prep food where you poop on my sinks, stoves, and counters. On all the other stoves the option to disable or enable it for food prep shows on the menu. On the olde stove it does not. This is just a guess. I don't expect you to change it just for me. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue.
My sims cannot use the stove for some reason. They wave their hand and don't use it to cook.
Is something blocking your sims path?

Hi again i have two empty counters and i and took out icemun and SCOO but i still cant make the homemade flour and butter they start to do it but dont finish it want y to no i have no problems with the other recipe only this two.
They shouldn't cause any conflict as I use them too.. I tested in my game but couldn't replicate the issue you are having. Do you get any LEs? Also which packages from the download do you have installed?
Hi Thank you i love this but my sims cant finish the homemade butter my sims start to do the butter after a while the sim stopp and dont finish the butter. I have custom food and SCOO in my game but they are uppdatet and should work fine with yours. Thanks again for all y lovley recipe. My sim have a bowl over hers head when she stop cooking.
Oh i'll take a look, I haven't had chance to play lately so one of the recent updates might have changed something. In the mean time, make sure your sim has 2 empty counter spaces - they might be being fussy with the space as they like to move around a lot sometimes.

I became a patreon just so that I could comment. This MOD is absolutely everything, as a historical player this mod has changed my sims life! They'd comment themselves but they're currently off foraging and then they have a joust tournament to attend ;)

Sorry if I'm a little slow, but I don't see any attachments for the animation or meals? I only was able to download one attachment called "LBB_Olde Cookbook Kit V.0.3.rar". But it doesn't include any other files when I download it. Thanks!
You have to extract the download first, then you will have the folders 😊

does not allow my sims to finish cooking with V.2 update they start then the it get stuck & not finishing cooking

No, I had all packs installed and I think after playing around a bit it might be a glitch? I might try it out without some of the other cc I have installed and see if it might be a piece of outdated cc that is making it wig out. Thanks for getting back to me!
I had trouble with making the salads. The show in the game food menu but my sim refuses to make them. Also, it would be awesome to have a counter space that matches the oven or a historical equivalent like a worktable or hutch? This is such an amazing addition to my gameplay! Thank you for all the hard work!
Oh that's odd, i'll take a look! Everything should be base game but is there any packs you don't have installed? I plan on adding more items to this 'kit' over time, so there will likely be a counter space of some sort in the future 😊
Is this compatible with SCCO?
Hi, the ingredients should be compatible with scco recipes. But the recipes in the cookbook will only use the ingredients in this download. There is plans for me to adjust each recipe to be compatible with scco ingredients tags 😊
I made a really nice Medieval inn with the help of this mod, TY! I was also looking into if you could add the food to buffet tables, so far with no success :P - will let you know if I figure THAT out. lol
Ooh. I could look into making a version that uses the medieval foods. I haven’t had chance to ‘play’ much so I’m not sure how the buffet tables work but that would be a great idea! 😊
I was up until 3 am last night enjoying this wonderful work of yours. There are no words to express my gratitude. You did Hasty pudding! I also am in love with all the wonderful drinks. It may seem strange that I am so happy with the hot milk, but I have wanted it for a long time for my peasant sims and their children.
Aww! That makes me soo happy! 🥰 I managed to sneak it in! And the hot milk is such a simple addition but it I find it perfect for on a night time before my sims go to bed!

When playing with any farming sim, I always end up with so much produce left over to sell. It's great having a use for them! Stops all my sims becoming super rich haha!
