Dev Diary #4: Why is it called "Bloodlines"?
The majority of vampire erotica ends with the prey or victim being bitten--often with a "twist ending": *GASP* she was a vampire the whole time?! We've had a lot of those stories--but what happens after that shy virgin is turned into a creature of the night? Who do they hunt? Who do they turn?
I named this game "Bloodlines" because I want you to trace the journeys these characters take. But you'll also see their connections to people they turn. Though the structure of this project is always evolving, one of the early character maps looked like this:
While I've left Ben and Mia's transformation scene labeled, everything else has been blanked out because our production schedule is determined by the votes of our Defiler and Corruptor tier patrons. But, as you can see, every choice will determine a different pathway through the story.
In the finished version of "Bloodlines," this means the different character paths will lead to different outcomes. However, each path crosses several others. You might choose to follow Mia's Bloodline all the way to its end, but in doing so, you will unlock many other Bloodlines to explore (as players already have with Ben, Clara, and Valerie). This allows you to follow them as they proceed down their own paths, turning even more victims into vampires as the story progresses.
This obviously raises a lot of questions, but I'll just answer one for now: will every character who gets turned get their own Bloodline? Early on, yes. We're even going to open up Bloodlines for characters who'll have to wait quite a while to be turned. As our cast expands into multitudes, this will most likely change, but isn't change what the whole game's about?
Conventions will be shattered. Taboos will be broken. Curfews will be ignored.
