Difficulty modes in the game!

Dear friends,

We are actively working on Version 1.0 as we speak. One of the new features we plan to introduce in the new version is 2 different difficulty modes – namely:

  • Adventure Mode, in which combat and minigames will be relatively easy.

  • Tactical Mode, in which you’ll need to develop specific strategies to defeat combat opponents and make an effort to succeed at minigames.

It’s important to note that we’re currently designing the game with Tactical Mode as our focus so that we properly factor in all the many subtle facets of good game balance – making enemies that are genuinely challenging, equipment that’s relevant but not overpowered, skills that are impactful, and minigames that are interesting.

We’ll be encouraging players to play the game on Tactical Mode, because that’s the mode the game has been intended to be played in from the very start. We weren’t originally planning on introducing a second difficulty mode, but we’ve seen that a meaningful number of players don’t want to spend time mastering the combat system. Consequently, we decided to give players the ability to choose whichever mode they’re more comfortable playing. If you’d like to immerse yourself in the story but not have to put much effort into winning battles and minigames, we’ll make sure you have that opportunity.

Which difficulty mode do you think you’ll primarily play in Version 1.0?

Sadly, I'm proper wedded to the story now. I do enjoy the mini games, I just go everywhere with a knapsack full of potions.

I'm thinking of starting adventure first, to get to the sexy stuff fast. Then make a tactical save, so i can focus on the challenge.

Start with Tactical, though I could see the early game being difficult to make a living if the prices for selling the collected resources stays the same. One potential adjustment to that could be when first collecting a resource its more valuable as there is a scarcity to it, as more of the resource is sold its value diminishes. This is offset slightly the player progress as they are able to collect more resources in one go and also help encourage hunting the next creature to stay ahead of the diminishing returns on sales.

I'm Playing the game, but some of the quest and Mini-games are not working right. Hunters Instincts that helps with the fishing game is now missing. I also can't get the fishing quest.

I care more about advancing the story than the combat honestly

Quoteing a certain robot: "Do you hear that, we have options!" Story to dive deep im the lore and tactical to push my limits and understanding of UAF.

Giving players the option seems like a good idea. It even allows players to go Tactical first and then do Adventure later in a new playthrough.

I like the story, use cheat mode, things like arm wrestling are annoying, between buffing up stats to as close to god mode as possible, and hopefully the ability to skip time consuming and repetitive mini games.

Agreed.

I like it when I can overcome challenges, I just don´t like the armwrestling because I feel like it is always in an annoying way hard to beat, regardless of leveling. XD

I mainly care for the story. I use cheat mode to cheese most of the difficulty.

If it makes the arm wrestling less annoying, I'm going adventure mode

True, the armwrestling is so bothersome! XD

I am a guy who is more interested in Story than Full-fledged Combat, but on the other hand it is to get more bang for your buck.
