"The Sails Of Charon" (Scorpions) Solo Lesson/Analysis

Even though Ritchie Blackmore was the innovator of the Neoclassic style, Uli Jon Roth was for sure the guy who took it to the next level with this obsolutely obscene solo from all the way back in 1977 (!).

Roth chose to completely forgo the typical Blues Rock style of the era and compose the masterpiece entirely in Phrygian Dominant, with some incredibly creative licks and runs that are still pretty tricky even to this day! As well as being a pretty demanding technical workout this solo is also a fantastic lesson in how you to combine Phrygian Dominant, Harmonic Minor and diminished arpeggios.
