"M.I.A." (Avenged Sevenfold) Solo Lesson/Analysis

It's no secret that Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite band of all time and Synyster Gates' unique approach had a huge influence on me developing my economy picking style, so I was super excited to get around to this insane solo!

While not Syn's most famous solo, M.I.A. is a cult classic and is extremely highly regarded in guitar nerd circles as a masterful piece of guitar playing. This solo is unique in the fact that his Gypsy Jazz leanings really shine through, with numerous licks that lean hard in that direction (as well as the usual signature A7X shenanigans too of course).

What's especially cool about this solo is that it really has something for everyone to have fun with! Section 1 is incredibly technical and will really put your picking chops to the test, section 2 is a fun bit of goofy Iron Maiden worship that's perfect for beginners, and section 3 is a beautifully melodic John Petrucci-esque climax.
