CMGIAW Legacy — Development Roadmap

I wanted to share a clearer update about where CMGIAW Legacy is heading from here.

I’ll be returning to Legacy for a while to work through several things that have been sitting unfinished for years 🎉

Before moving fully into the next major development phase of Monarch’s Journey, I want to spend some time taking care of unfinished work, technical debt, and older material that has accumulated in Legacy over the years.

CMGIAW has gone through many different stages of development, and there are still plenty of things I’ve wanted to revisit for a long time.

Rather than carrying all of those loose ends into another large production cycle, I think this is a good moment to give Legacy some long-overdue attention.

The focus will be on gradually improving what already exists while also leaving room for some additional content.

What's Planned?

Render Reworks & Visual Improvements

I'll be revisiting older CGs and renders that no longer match the quality of the newer material.

This includes improvements to lighting, composition, posing, expressions, camera work, backgrounds, UI, and general presentation.

I'm not remaking the entire game at once. Instead, I'll gradually revisit scenes where I feel a rework would make a meaningful difference.

Scene Reworks

Some of Legacy's scenes were written during a much earlier stage of development.

I'll be reviewing older content and improving dialogue, pacing, character consistency, transitions, and scenes that I feel could simply be better.

Some may receive small adjustments, while others could receive more substantial reworks.

Code Cleanup

The legendary CMGIAW code.

There is a lot of old route logic and spaghetti code accumulated over the years. I'll gradually clean up broken or unnecessarily complicated systems, inconsistent variables, menus, route conditions, and other issues as I encounter them.

I'm not rebuilding Legacy from scratch. The goal is simply to make the existing game cleaner and easier to maintain.

A Proper Game Guide

After all these years, I finally want to make an actual functional guide.

Routes, important choices, scene requirements, alternate outcomes, missable content, unlock conditions...

Legacy has accumulated enough branching that even I sometimes have to look at the code to remember how something works.

Possible DLC & Side Content

I also still have several DLC and side-story concepts sitting in my notes.

Some have existed for quite a while, and there are still ideas I would personally like to explore.

Some may eventually become DLC or additional content.

Development Going Forward

Legacy will be receiving more attention from this point forward.

Rather than constantly trying to produce massive expansions, I'll be focusing on smaller and more regular improvements: render reworks, rewritten scenes, fixes, code cleanup, documentation, visual improvements, and occasionally additional content when it makes sense.

I want to steadily improve the game rather than force large updates simply for the sake of having large updates.

What About Monarch’s Journey?

Monarch’s Journey is still a project I intend to continue developing.

Before moving into its next major production phase — Chapter 1 — I simply want to clear some of the Legacy backlog that has been sitting behind me for years.

Having unfinished ideas, outdated scenes, old renders, broken systems, and other pending work constantly sitting in the back of my mind makes it harder to completely focus on something new.

So I'm going to spend some time taking care of that first.

I'm deliberately not setting a point where Legacy has to be declared "completely finished" before I can work on Monarch's Journey again. There will probably always be something that could be improved.

I simply want to reach a point where I'm comfortable moving forward again.

So yes, for now, I'm returning to CMGIAW Legacy

Thank you as always for continuing to support my work.
