At work, we talked about the different image formats that we support in the platform, and that reminded me of an Image Format decision tree that I created a couple of years back:
I even made a joke about it, but I never shared it on comiCSS (it didn't exist). Also, I was not too fond of the visualization of that decision tree, so I decided to create a new version, cleaner and friendlier:
It is a bit outdated: the animation branch should include exciting additions like animated WebP or APNG, and BMP is presented more out of nostalgia than anything. But I like it.
Also, if you check the code on the private CodePen demo, you may notice that it is not HTML but an SVG with CSS inside. CSS and SVG complement each other (and in my honest opinion, SVG would be a lot more difficult without CSS).
Does this mean that I will use SVG more in the future? Not necessarily. I still like the idea of having a webcomic about CSS coded in CSS, and I plan to keep it that way. But SVG may be peppered here and there (the first strips were like that.)
Have a great week!
