Conference FOMO Then and Now
I recently spoke at a conference about a new CSS feature that, in my opinion, represents a significant shift in the language, and in how we need to think about it.
My talk was part of the Front-End track, but many of the other sessions felt oddly monolithic, and not particularly front-end focused. Topics leaned more toward themes like “getting AI to write your CSS” or “stop coding in HTML: Use Markdown instead because it’s better for AI.” Ironically, the conference already had a dedicated AI track, yet AI still managed to spill over and dominate the rest.
After sharing today's cartoon online, I noticed a recurring sentiment among commenters: AI fatigue. It’s a feeling that resonates with many developers and technologists right now.
