If Mondrian was a Software Developer...
I had this idea for a comic a long time ago, but it never materialized. What would happen if Mondrian was a Software Developer? Would his code be boxed? Use only a 4-color palette for building websites? How would his GitHub activity chart look like?
From that last question, I started working on different types of GitHub users and their activity charts. "Regular" developers (if there's such a thing) would have their activity with splats of green here and there, but I could think of more:
The Cheater: a person that uses scripts and tools to inflate their GitHub numbers and look more active than what they are, creating unrealistic expectations. Personally, I'll trust a developer with any of the activity charts above but this one.
The Weekender: developers that work on their side projects only on weekends due to work, or that have corporate GitHub so their contributions don't show up.
The Getting-ready-to-search-for-a-new-job: you can find these easily on GitHub. No contributions for long periods of time, and then suddenly a week of high activity to prepare their resume site and create projects based on tutorials so it looks like they have many repos.
The Wizard: Experts on coding and bigger experts on GitHub. A variation of the Cheater, but instead of just creating chaos, they use their knowledge for whimsical things... like customizing their activity chart to show messages or drawings.
Piet Mondrian: I think this is how Mondrian would have his GitHub activity graph. Boxes and cubes everywhere, like one of his paintings.
The Cupid Shuffle: something silly to add to the list. As the song goes: to the left, to the right, now kick, walk all around, and down.
Can you think of other GitHub types to add to the list?
The cartoon is coded in HTML and CSS, having only two elements per chart: the heading and the chart itself (months are in the ::before and days are in the ::after). Then using backgrounds to set the color for the boxes.
