Early Access: PR Reviews
Recently, I published some criticism of a class name used by Tailwind on Twitter. Needless to say, that comment, as anything related to Tailwind, had a mixed reception. And because I'm stubborn, instead of taking it back, I will double down one more time.
This is the cartoon for next week. It is not necessarily a criticism of Tailwind itself (it can be a superb tool in the right project if rightly used), but it will be seen as such anyway. It is more of a criticism of how it is used.
[Stepping aside from the cartoon, I'm a weird person CSS-wise. I do many things in CSS that should probably not be done with CSS, and I have many "theories" about how to use the language that many people will not agree with. In particular, BEM and Tailwind are things that I don't like (and I use them for work anyway!). I believe utility classes are fine, but if you need more than a handful, you probably should use a custom class. And that's why (among other things) the idea of Tailwind, in general, seems terrible.]
Going back to the topic at hand, except for one of the classes in the second panel, that long string is a real class value found online. I copied it from the tailwind.com website. I could find other pages with even longer class name lists, but using something from "the source" seemed more appropriate.
You can check the source code and a live demo of this cartoon on this private CodePen.

You may have noticed that the character is wearing a TWFTW t-shirt. This is because I was (am?) planning on following up with a second cartoon that would be published the following week. In that cartoon, There will be two characters:
- Character 1: Hey Alvaro, how is it that the character is wearing a TWFTW t-shirt?
- Character 2: Huh?
- Character 1: Yes, a TailWind For The Win t-shirt?
- Character 2: Oh! Nononono TWFTW doesn't stand for that! It stands for TailWind? F*ck TailWind!
- Character 1: ...
I don't know if I should publish it, though. As I mentioned, I have been making many "anti-Tailwind" cartoons lately, and I think I should return to being more educational. However, I don't want it to look like the Tailwind defenders "won." (There's nothing to win anyway.)
