Expanded Lore
AKA: the new version of Assign NPC Roles.
"Expanded Lore" doesn’t mean I'm adding new lore to the game—instead, it’s a tool that gives you full control over the existing lore and NPC roles in your game. It's designed to streamline the setup process for new saves, especially if you prefer to micromanage your world.
The mod is now public, thanks for the patience
THIS MOD REQUIRES THE CORE LIBRARY

I originally started working on this as a way to bribe my wife into buying the new pack—her main hesitation with starting a new save was the time it takes to set things up the way she likes, adding occult types, degrees, and similar traits to each family one by one. The goal was to create a lightweight management tool for batch-assigning characteristics to Sims. While building in features she requested, I realised the same system would work well for assigning NPC roles. Since some of her requested features overlapped with that mod, I decided to merge the two into a single tool.
All the interactions of the mod are in the cheats menu to avoid cluttering the UI. to bring them up:
Shift + Click on the terrain.
You can do this everywhere on the fly, so it's not tied to the mailbox like the old Assign NPC Roles.
UPDATES:
20/08/2025
Added more NPC roles (up to HSY)
Added Potential Employees Management for owned businesses.
What this Mod Allows You to Do:
Similar to Assign NPC Roles, this tool lets you assign Sims to specific NPC roles, including active career positions, service roles, and venue jobs.
This doesn't require much explanation, results are going to vary depending on your mods configuration. I tested everything without other mods and my filter edits.
But it goes further, allowing you to assign, for example, occult types to multiple Sims at once:
[ Not all occults are included yet because I'm going pack by pack]
[By the way Akira is not in the Goth's household, I summoned him with MCCC]
The same thing can be done to give degrees to multiple Sims at once (including the custom degrees from my other mod):
Other things you can manage in this preview are celebrity level and reputation of townies:
Venue and Potential Employees Roles
If you decide to use the venue and employees roles function, this pop-up will warn you of the implications:
Long story short: it's not possible to have both fine-tuned, persistent venue role assignments and automatic role management at the same time, due to how the game repurposes Sims. With this file installed, you'll need to assign roles like mixologist or stall vendor manually—but the game will respect your choices. That solves the main issue with the old mod, where manual assignments could be overwritten by the game's auto-fill system.
I’m keeping this module separate for players who want full control over NPC roles in their world.
This file allows you to assign roles such as mixologists, restaurant chefs, waiters, and more.
Optional Files:
In the Optional File folder you'll find a bunch of files to decide how you want the game to behave regarding random preferences to NPCs, random ailments, ailments from pixies and balance, and ailments from contagion and to enable the other interaction shown in the screenshot above:
These let you select the default behaviour you want (example mine above is: ailment from pixies default on, ailments at random default off, ailments from contagion default on, random preferences default off) and toggle the behaviour for specific sims in game:

Does this mod need to be updated?
Awsome, thank you! This is great, but can you please add a DL link that isn't curseforge?
Is there a full outline/description of the Private filters anywhere??
I have lotcore Library installed and still cannot find the expanded lore pie menu anywhere but when i shift click on the environment. I can't find the option when clicking on a sim.
Hi Zero! Great mod, thank you so much! Just a quick Q, do you have a recommended setting on MCCC to make sure this and your private filters work as needed? For context, I usually have my MCCC settings to import sims strictly from the tray- meaning, I have it set for 100%. Is that optimal for this mod to work, or would that be conflicting? Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing your work, this mod is great!
Will you be updating this mod for the new royalty legacy
I'll update it for the patch once I'm sure things are settled with the new family relbit (next patch likely). As for the pack, I couldn't even explore that world to see what NPCs are there because of the lag.
can you tell me why? What am I doing wrong? "No sim matching the filter is available in your game"
First - THANK YOU. Second, I don't see an option to assign bar regulars. Is this assignment unavailable? I see a few posts mentioning that this is a buggy role, and it would make sense it's not in the pie menu.
Sorry if I am dumb and doing something wrong but while this works miracles, I cannot assign bartenders/mixologists, like there is no category, I can only give sims mixology degree but they still won't tend bars and I cannot find the marketstalls for Komorebi...is that by design, a bug or am I doing sth wrong?
Is it possible to get a full detailed list of your private filter edits?
Would you say that this mod is compatible with Home Regions . ??
Yeah it should have no problems
hey there, literally just downloaded. very new to this, sorry. i watched the video for assign npc's before even finding this mod. do we still need to add sims to a lot and evict them before assigning roles or is that just with the old mod?
You still need to add them if you stop the game from generating then randomly
I don't know what could be interfering however when trying to assign roles the sim picker is only showing the same 10 or so sims, no matter what the role is for (actor, mixologist, DJ etc etc) any idea why or what could be conflicting?
Sims having a job or being in played households. The picker uses the same filters the game uses to assign the roles randomly
Expanded Realm of Magic please, update 😭😭😭😭😭
Hi, I really really tried to get this mod to work for me but it just won't and it drives me crazy that I can't figure out why :( All the options for the NPC roles remain greyed out (and the tool tip says it's likely there are no suitable sims in the save to fill the roles). So I tried a completely fresh setup, no mods installed except Core library, no save files, no tray... Tried moving some pre-made sims into "not in world" category and also made sure there were sims with some of the traits required like "Active" for gym trainer... nothing worked. I had the game spawn a barista before adding the mod, just to see if that barista would then be assignable but also no dice. I don't know what else I can try :(
Sims that already have a job are not selectable in the picker so if a Sim is already assigned they can't be assigned to another role unless you remove them first. Check the "remove from role" to see if maybe the game had already given them a job (MCCC progression or the game own story progression can do that)
Hi Zero! Thank you so much for the mod. I have a question on setting up venues with NPCs. Does this mod assign the NPC to a specific venue? For example, I've added a chef role to a sim but I want him for a specific restaurant.
No. You can only manage specific roles for the restaurant if you own it, otherwise they're picked at random. This mod works with Walkby Overhaul though, the closest you can get is restricting the roles by region (in automatic) using both mods together.
Hello, sorry that this is unrelated to your post, but I was wondering if you had any sites, articles, books, etc. you'd recommend for someone to start looking into ancient paganism? Thank you so much for this mod too, btw
Ancient paganism is a broad term. Paganism was localised so it depends what culture you want to focus on, values might change. I looked into Rome, Greece and Gaels, for this ancient myths unfiltered and reflection on them suffice. Conversation with AI to enter the mindset of those religions also help. It's a work you have to do for yourself, books written by others on Paganism are filtered through their biases and opinions, they can give hints but rarely something real.
Believing in equal human worth isn’t a Christian invention; secular philosophy, Buddhism, Indigenous traditions, and modern human rights all uphold it without Christianity. Bigotry isn’t wrong because of Christianity, it’s wrong because it harms people. That’s a fact, not a faith. You don’t need Jesus to recognise a racist.
Nice try. Debate's over.
Maybe you should just stick to modding, Zero. Your philosophy/theology rantings are dull. We don't find them clever.
Who's we, you're an individual. And you're out of my territory.
I don't know how I even missed this post before but I'm so exicited to test in the game. Thanks again for your work!
Thank you so much for the amazing job!! One question—I can’t reassign any of the NPCs back to their role in werewolf pack. I removed them from played and they are not in the map, but still they don’t show in the choices. How do I get them back to their jobs?
Yeah those are tricky to fix now because they have hidden traits. The best way to get them back on their job is installing temporarily private filters, visit the lots, saving and removing it. Private filters forces the game to use maxis premades for the jobs in the werewolf pack since the game is removing them from the role by itself at the moment.
Is it possible to use the VenueRoles file in tandem with a filter like Kuttoe's Home Regions. I'm curious how the filters keeping Sims in specific worlds would be impacted by this mod. Tbh, I'll go with yours if they aren't compatible. I'm so sick of seeing celebrities or Sims with established careers as vendors - so thank you for this! Your work is appreciated.
No they'll not be impacted, you can use them together
finally actual background characters!! love this new update
I'm so happy I can finally comment 😭😭😭❤️❤️ I use a lot of your mods and still do even if I have no idea if they are compatible or not. I use your private filters one and put it in my overrides folder. I did however forgot to add your assign npc role mod so that my game had ppl and maybe that's why it's over generating sims to make up the difference or even without the additional npc assign mod there should still be no excess sims added? I'm referring to your other mod not this one. This one does seem cool though what's the difference between this one and your old assign npc roles? Is it just lacking a few careers and now has the addition with removing preferences etc? Could more sims in world by losson conflict with your private filters do you know?
If private filters is in the override folder then the game is likely generating Sims from one of these two sources: 1. Custom filters with templates that my mod wouldn't override from other mods. 2. A script mod that is bypassing the tuning going straight to python. Test private filters by itself.
Should I remove Assign NPCs then?
they don't conflict but do the same thing. This one is still missing some roles I'll add in the future
Who's Alice?
there is a ghost called Alice in Life and Death and an Alice in willow creek
On a blank save file, I placed a eight sim household on a lot and immediately moved them out, but only four of the eight sims ever show up as options to assign jobs for. I opened up a new save file and tried it with a different household, but it happened again. I’m not loading into the households at all and this is not just happening with jobs that require specific traits.
Those Sims that aren't showing up aren't passing the filter for some reason.
Amazing work! its exactly what I was looking for, and I’m really grateful you made it. It makes my game so much better, Thank you so much!
is this broken rn with the new update?
No.
this is awesome, Thank you so much. I use it with the Lot 51 Fashion Authority mod to make changes to service NPC outfits, it's the dream team for a totally unique game. I did manage to create a glitch though, after creating 4 Sims with the traits needed to be a Librarian, I didn't like the female outfit so I used the fashion mod to fix it, but after fixing the outfit I realised I had broken your mod (the game started auto generating NPC's and my 4 weren't listed). I fixed it by using the remove from this role option because all my Sims were shown there. once I had removed all the Sims, they then showed up in the 'recruitment' option and everything was good to go again. I wasn't able to repeat the drama, so it was clearly something of my doing! I love everything you do, it sharpens everything up about the game and makes it much more immersive. Thank you
Hello, so far no complexity for me, pretty easy to use, thanks a lot. have a question tho, i keep looking for the High school roles, proviseur/teachers/cafeteria but cannot find them, are they not included in the mode or am i not looking at the right place?
Not yet included. I was technically proceeding pack by pack but my process was hijacked by my wife's requests. I'll add those roles as soon as I'm done with the preference assignment that I've been convinced into adding.
This looks perfect! Eager to play with it, Thank you.
I've been testing this all morning, but I cannot get it to work. I've taken out all mods except for this (I've got the main version and the venue roles version) and the Walkby Overhaul. I started with a Srsly Blank Save and added a librarian household (all YA, Bookworm, Neat). I marked them as unplayed and they are moved into a lot. The option to add a librarian is greyed out, even though I have 8 sims that have the 'required' traits/age. I also tried to assign a mail carrier, but the sim I wanted to assign wasn't available in the sim picker. I also tested the Pizza delivery and just left the sim that the game had assigned as the dude (by checking the Basic Roles via the mod option). I order a pizza, and the game just generated someone random that wasn't in the world. I know this is in a testing phase, but with this many issues I think I might be doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what it is that I'm doing incorrectly. Any ideas that might help? Thank you so much - these mods really seem like they will save my game and my sanity because I want to micromanage to the Nth degree!
It's likely the "has household ever been played" condition in the repurpose filters. It's irrelevant that you mark them as unplayed from the game's perspective, cause it tracks if the Sim has ever been loaded into a lot at all. To make them work: save them in the library, delete those you have in game and re-add the saved Sims to the world without loading them at all. This should clear the played status for good for the filter to work.
You managed to bribe your wife to buy the pack and me to FINALLY subscribe. You have no idea how much I wanted this from YOU specifically. I assume with the venue roles I don't need the private filters anymore? Or do I? Because I want zero crazy looking, weird ass townie in my game :P
You still need it to stop the random generated shite. This mod actually adapts if you have the filters installed and gives you more options for roles like the Librarian that by default require sims with very specific personality traits (neat, bookworm) because I made the filters less strict on those.
Wow!!! Thank you! Thank you! thank you!!!
I'm not getting the menu even after I set testingcheats true and shift clicking. Please help
It's under "Zero Cheats" > Expanded Lore Cheats
