I'm catching up on my patreon backlog and just got to this, but want to say, that while it can be annoying to have another person living with you -romantic partner or roommate- it is something of a luxury to have someone 'built in' to hear when you fall down, notice that you didn't come home when you said you planned to, and who knows how to take care of your pets and plants when you're out late or go out of town. If they're a good person for you to live with, you can even split up some of the tasks that have to be done in every household, like taking the trash out and shoveling the walk. You have just a little bit of cushion in having your home continue to run when you can't run it. Close runner up to having someone live with you is a frequent overnight guest, like someone who travels a lot and just stays at your place when they're in town. Someone who knows where you keep the forks and trash bags, but isn't up in your business all the time. The way you talk about your mom and some of your friends, I hope you get at least a little bit of that as you move into your new place!

Looking forward to all that is ahead for you! Congrats on 100K subs and for pushing towards your dreams. Scary, I can't even imagine! 💙 My hubby is a professional painter, wish you were closer, we're in our 50s so he's very good with tons of experience lol

Thank you Kera! I like painting I just hate sanding, which was a good lesson to learn 😂

When I could paint my own walls when I moved into my house - it was so fun. I even painted my roof to look like a night sky with clouds and stars!

Always interesting. I have just finished reading 'Hats by Madame Paulette' whi I'd never heard off but boy do I know some of her Hats including the epic hat Audrey Hepburn wore in the iconic races day part of My Fair Lady. My reason for mentioning it was that at the end of her career she was the chosen milliner of Thierry Mugler. Her life was so interesting and she packed sooo much in. Regarding doing costuming without the TV patterns I've had great success with the tailoring manuals drafts. I have used the Keystone one which is free online and Frances Grimbles bustle patterns book which I did buy but there's 42 drafts plus other ideas. Using their scaled rulers gets you close even on the mock up stage. Best wishes for a successful and happy 2023.

The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Sounds fabulous! I always love some yummy hats ❤ I'm definitely going to have to experiment with the older drafting manuals for the Victorian stuff, though even starting with the corset pattern and working from there isn't a terrible situation. I need to make a new corset anyhow, so I may make something from the ground up once I'm in my new space!

So excited to see what you do with dieselpunk, I only know a little about it (more familiar with steampunk) so I'm looking forward to being inspired by your take on it. And anytime you feel like doing another Space Queen dress I for one will happily watch, I love them SO much! Happy New Year, wishing you joy in all your endeavors!

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Thank you Laura! Perhaps I need a brown space queen dress in a coppery patina ✨ Happy New Year!

Happy new year l just want to say that I’m very happy that you also put the beautiful things from the synapse up on the channel because I’m one of the people who can’t watch something with a lot of flashing light. I look forward to see all the beautiful things you’ll make in the new year. And enjoy your Holliday in England and house hunting.

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Thank you Anna-Lise! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I've adored your space age experiments this year, you've showed us all whats possible within a silhouette we love. So many other channels just do vintage but you make such creative visions, its awesome! In the same vein try not to feel bad for making things from the same pattern. You're allowed time to yourself and quite honestly if you shared a whole load of patreon videos about things you made with old patterns to give yourself a bit of a break id be really happy with that. Looking forward to househunt content!

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Thank you Heather! Happy New Year! I just need to strike a new balance between doing examples of new drafting, and making things using the patterns I like most really 😂✨

Susanfuzz · January 1, 2023

Wasn’t it Auntie Mame who said (or yelled really) “Life is a banquet and some poor suckers are starving!” Maybe the way to describe your feelings for 2023 is hungry for life and experiences (aren’t we all, these days)… I like the Rosalind Russell non musical version the best… and her outfits…😍 Happy New Year! We had New Years at Nine… stragglers were kicked out at 9:30 :) We snacked and watched Die Hard (holy toxic masculinity) and the toasted the new year with that fizzy apple cider that made childhood events so FANCY….

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Happy New Year! I should find some of that apple cider stuff since the real stuff tends to give me an instant headache after one glass...which is a bummer becuase I like a woodsy red wine quite a lot 😩

Happy new year!! You deserve all the good things in your life, you have worked so hard for them! Thank you for sharing your skills and providing inspiration! Idk if this would help you take writing time, but you could vlog writing and add it to your Side Husslen video?? I recently rewatched your older ones and saw you writing in them. 😊 Take care and please rest!!

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Thank you Alicia! Happy New Year! I'm taking this week to write I promise ✨

Happy New Year!!! Thank you for all that you do for us!!! I am just so happy that I found your channel, you inspire me in so many ways even though I don't sew. Just watching you and listening to you has made a positive impact on my life. Congratulations on your new milestone and I'm so looking forward to whatever you do! ❤️

Puck · January 1, 2023

Happy new year! I think it's funny you keep apologising for not making not enough vintage because to me the whole sci fi, modern, punky style but in a more classic silhouette is exactly what I am living for and to me, while not exactly reproductions, it still has the vintage shapes so just use more classical fabrics and you’re done. I am also looking very forward to the brown overload because I am apearently boring and really love brown, I think it's a very flattering colour if done right. I will probably do it many more times but I wish you the best of luck on the house hunting and look forward to seeing what you feel comfortable showing us.

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Thank you! I'm fixed on brown right now so /lots/ of brown coming up, copper, bronze, rich rusts and espresso 😍✨ It always just feels risky to do things outside of the strictly "vintage" box, as I do get complaints, and of course the human mind focuses on the negative annoyingly 😅 But I have to do what my heart wants in design! I'm glad other folks get it 🚀❤🤖

Happy new year! I spent my new year's eve watching the Fifth Element and then introducing my partner to your more sci-fi leaning lookbooks. I hope 2023 treats you well and you manage to balance all the exciting things you have planned with relaxation and writing as well!

Happy New Year, Bianca! Please take some time to relax! You didn't end end up taking much time off in December like you wanted. You deserve some down time! My exciting New Year's evening consisted of wearing my PJs, eating oatmeal for dinner, watching YouTube and doing some beadwork for the chains of the chatelaine I received from my mom for Christmas.

T
The Closet Historian · January 9, 2023

Happy New Year Jen! Beadwork always sounds fun to me ✨
