Early Access // This Week's Video

I hope you had a great weekend! For this week's upcoming video I finally went over my western road trip wardrobe, which I'd been putting off most because I had to iron everything before I could model it all 😂 Sadly there will be no outdoor adventures of any kind this week, as it's supposed to snow the next two days!

The wide leg version of those trousers is so glamorous! It's so cool to see the different modifications, and how they worked out.

Thank you Kathleen!

Those wide leg trousers are so flattering! I have a pair drafted which I've been putting off making up because the fly guard/inserting the zipper is making my brain hurt... I guess the only thing to do is give it a go and see what happens!

Thank you Stephanie! This is why I only make trousers with a side zipper, muuuuch easier! 😅

Gorgeous as usual, hair and makeup lovely. What lipstick is that? Also speaking of bras have you ever tried a regency short stay , I am attempting to make one as a more comfortable alternative to modern bras as the girls are huge (46DD) and I need support but also comfort. (If that’s possible in a bra…) I’m team wide leg too but black linen. I’m very boring, everything in black lol

#TeamBlackLinen here too!

Thanks for all of the tips on the pants. They all looked so good on you. Do you think that style is suitable for a size 16/18? Also, do you wear shapewear under the dresses? I hope that isn't weird, but they always lay so smoothly on you. If not, we all need to know the secret of smoothing the area under the bust down to the hips, LOL. Thanks so much!

Thank you Peggy! I don't even know what size I am since I haven't bought pants/clothes in several years 😅 I'm probably a 12-ish? I don't always wear shapewear but when I do it's just modern spanx like things, though I wasn't wearing anything in this video. For bra's I prefer the Bali Flower bra, or the Rago longline for ultimate side seam smoothing!

Love the beach pyjamas! I definitely need to sort put a trouser pattern for myself.

Thank you Ivy! I got so lucky with that 40's pattern, great from go really ❤

Love the pants, especially the wide leg. All the styles look good on your shape. The fabric for the dress is perfect! What fun. The travel series was fun as well.

Thank you Bobbie!

Great collection and like you I'm team wide leg.....looks lovely but I agree sometimes practical wins out and the legs need to be narrower. I have a pair of bootcut jeans (one of the few bought things left in my wardrobe!) that I use and one day I will try to make a pair. I prefer the silhouette on me rather than the straight tapered leg. The beach pj look was great fun - can definitely see you lounging under a palm tree with a cocktail 🍸

Thanks Peta! I do indeed like a pina colada under some palms...though it has been several years 😂

Your trip looked absolutely gorgeous, my dream is to go travelling somewhere hot with a killer capsule wardrobe in my suitcase! Honestly cannot get enough of your fashion films too, you are stunning Bianca 💜

Love the tropical print..you look fabulous ! Thank you for showing how to modify a pant pattern, I want to make high waisted pants with leg modifications....time to get out of my sweat pants and get to it!

T
The Closet Historian · February 2, 2022

Thank you Margo! Changing the legs up is really easy once you're happy with the top of the pattern essentially!

I just love seeing you in your nice things looking happy. You must have figured out your new camera as the picture quality is improved. It's so vivid! Thank you for the early access, Bianca.

That was perfect timing for my current fashion plotting! I want to make 1930s style wide-leg ladies trousers that close with buttons on the side. I’m planning to start with my pencil skirt pattern. I’ll lengthen it and do the crotch extension from the textbook that you recommended. I learned 2 important things from this video. The first is that a straight leg is plenty wide enough for the look I’m going for. Flare might be nice in a really lightweight fabric, and I might try that sometime, but not this first round. The second thing is that trousers look really good in a busy print. I think I have an excuse to buy a nice printed fabric. I need to order interfacing anyway, so why not throw it in?

T
The Closet Historian · February 2, 2022

Thank you Tina! Busy print trousers are now my favorite of all!!

That tropical outfit is great! Which seems to be a consensus :) I bet you could sew in swim suit cups and a band and front hook or cannibalize a bra to make the top a little safer …

T
The Closet Historian · February 2, 2022

Thank you Susan! Yeah a hook of some kind would help it feel a little less risky 😅

The wide leg version is very flattering (not that the others don’t look fab). And I do love the black outfit. Such a lovely capsule wardrobe 💕

I love that palm print set so much. Interesting to see how little alteration it takes to change the look of the pants! Random question: where is the snake on your wall behind you from? I’ve been looking everywhere for something similar to include in my sewing room gallery wall.

T
The Closet Historian · February 2, 2022

Thank you Mary! The snake was from Michaels crafts Halloween section last year!

I'm in love with that tropical outfit!

Thank you! It will be a while before the weather here is tropical enough I get to wear it again 😂
