Early Access // This Week's Video!

I managed to get this next week's video done a few days in advance! I hope you all enjoy this floopy rayon jacquard slip, the fabric was actually pretty okay to work with, and features...bugs of course. I can't be stopped apparently!

Thank you for your support!

I rewatched your field notes-video vol 4 and woundered if you still have the pattern to that blue, sexy, backless number. If so, would you show us how you made that pattern? Not sure if I could pull of a no-bra look (70 H and breast-fed 3 kids= ehhh you get the picture:P), but still would like to know how you made that dress.

Alas I didn't make the blue beaded gown, I found it at the thrift store! $14.99 and one of my best finds that year since it fits like a glove 💙

It's just amazing what you can do with a block pattern!

T

Thank you Ingrid!

Looking lovely. So interesting to see all the manipulation of the pattern. I have the book the Pinterest grab came from if you ever want to see more. It's one of my favourites! Re makeup video - possibly one that shows the more traditional 40s/50s look and then how you ramp it up for your more sparkly look? But only if your skin is up to the challenge. Don't want to increase your sensitivity!

T
The Closet Historian · January 15, 2022

Thank you Peta! I would love to know the name of the book as I'll totally look it up! I feel like I would just do my eyeshadow for camera becuase I find doing my base make-up boring and kinda tedious 😂 I have shown my more basic routine in a couple of videos before and it hasn't changed much really. I think I'm going to make a spin on "Collections Management: My Special Eyeshadows" becuase I have started collecting special shades from indie brands!

I can't wait to try to make one! I am currently making your 1920s party dress.

T
The Closet Historian · January 15, 2022

I hope it's been fun! I have that same lace from that video in the green colorway in my stash and I really need to make a holiday party dress with it this next year!

I loved the slip under the lacy dress! Swoon!!!!

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Thea! That dress is surprisingly versatile with different colors underneath!

I always laugh with your narrations Bianca and always enjoy your successes and your crazy little things. I don't know how you are going to explain the terrarium to your grandchildren (I suppose they would say my grandmother was a visionary, you know because "only insects will populate the earth", well you understand me).I confess, I plead guilty, when I saw that you did not make the straps the other way, almost gave me a "patatús" (Then i remembered I also made them like that not for 1, but 2 of the last dresses I sewed, but you know what no one will die for sewing straps that way). Regarding of the hem, you have tried to pass a thread and then fold over that seam, it is my favorite method of curving hems and they look good on me. the nightgown / underwear fit you very well and I loved the bugs fabric.

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Artemisa! I should have been good and done the straps the other way...but I was just too lazy 😂 oops! Luckily I will never have any grandchildren (or children) so there will only be strangers to be confused by my oddities ha!

I could totally see you making a second slip out of the red ladybug rayon jacquard that mood has in stock also!

K
Kathy Thielman · January 12, 2022

Question- How many yards of fabric did you use to make this slip? I ordered 3 but I'm worried that wont be enough...

Bobbie Parham · January 11, 2022

Oooohh, a slip tutorial, yay! I've always wanted to make one, but I never understood how they close or if they are just pulled over your head. Thank you!

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

It feels weird to not be putting a zipper in for sure, but if everything is cut on the bias it really will stretch just enough to slip on over the head comfortably! A bit like magic really ✨

I think one of the things I like the most with your channel, and I really do like your videos, is that I watch it and think "I can do that". I have learned so much from you, and you give me confidance that I will manage it as well. Thank you so much!

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Dalana-Michelle! I really hope that can be the take away!! You can do it indeed ❤

Peggy Riordan · January 11, 2022

I have often wondered how complicated making this type of slip would be and now I know. I will have to watch the pattern making part a few more times before it sinks into my brain properly! It came out beautifully and when I saw it finished it reminded me of slips my Mother wore when I was a small child in the 50s, only much prettier. It looked so pretty under the black lace dress as well. Yes, I would like to see a makeup video as I really admire your adventurous spirit with the color combinations you use. They always look great and very flattering too! Thanks for showing us how to make a slip like this!

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Peggy! I looove 1950's slips and there is a great vintage store in Denver (Boss vintage) that usually has them for pretty reasonable. I pick up nylon and lace ones (deadstock with 1950's tags!) there sometimes! I grabbed one in navy blue on my last visit 💙 They were just so detailed with pretty lace accents or frilly ruffles and such. I should make a slip collection video...though that may bring in some unwanted dudes 😂

Mary · January 11, 2022

Very cute with the sheer dress!! <3 Totally adding this to my (ever growing) sewing to do list. And yes to a eyeshadow video!

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Mary! I'll just need another sheer dress sometime too, the sewing list only ever grows!

Penny Johnson · January 11, 2022

Your Blue Monday slip is so shiny and soft-looking, seeing you in it reminded me of the 1939 movie, The Women. There's a scene near the end, I think, when they're trying on dresses and one gal saunters by announcing a new foundation garment: "Zips up the back, no bones!" I've always gotten a kick out of that line. You are generous to share so much of your things with us, even the Sims 4 videos of your Tudor house are so charming to tag along with.

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Penny! I just love The Women, the style!! And I love Rosalind Russell ❤

Fabulous! The slip & lace dress combo is stunning! BRB, have to go see what these mythical rayon jacquards are...

T

😆 to sewing without filming feeling illicit. *ducks into back alley* Question for you, Bianca or anyone who wants to answer: Am I right in thinking I could make this https://twitter.com/AuburnVintage/status/1460408967050444802 1955 cloak just by extending/combining bodice and sleeve blocks?

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Interesting that the cape has a shoulder dart! I have never made a cape, but there are instructions in some of my drafting books if that's a project I should make next soon!

H
Hanna T · January 10, 2022

Brilliant!!! Thanks a million, Bianca. I think I will make a dart at the back so it lyes flat. I think the gathering was a little bulky to my taste.

T
The Closet Historian · January 13, 2022

Thank you Hanna! Yes a dart will totally work, as would separating the bodice back pieces into princess seams as well, I'll have to try a different slip style next when I make a green one!
