Early Access // This Week's Video

This week I'm making a simple summer dress out of a fun bug print cotton poplin! Since I was able to finish my edit tonight, I thought I would give you all a sneak peek at this video before it goes live on Thursday. Thank you so much for your support! ❤

I recently got around to making my own all in one sleeve pattern, and have just got to hem the dress I've made using it. I might have to try this modification for the next one.

i lived in sw colorado (pagosa springs) for a little over a year. moved there from houston, texas, so i can say that the summers there were much cooler than texas. there were warm days, but none that weren't usually remedied with open windows and fans. i now live in kansas (hey neighbor!) and have for 22 years. my first summer here, i was angry because i expected it to be cooler being 600 miles north of where i lived in texas. nope. as hot or hotter sometimes. we do get all four seasons here. i enjoyed the spring in colorado, including the sudden storms. i intend to try the bias tape for hem when i get back to sewing. i am so thankful you mentioned it. i HATE trying to hem skirts. i recently picked up some knit fabric and purchased fold over elastic to finish the neck, arms and skirt neatly. there are so many pretty colors available that i thought it would be fun to try.

I have never really been on the western side of Colorado, so perhaps it is milder over there! It is supposed to be 97 degrees a couple of days here in Denver next week and I'm glad I will be inside! It's still no Texas heat for sure, I'd definitely melt down there 😂

Such a cute dress! I also really love seeing the little ribboned straw hat in your intros. I think you were planning to sell it, but it looks adorable angled on the hat stand, sort of like a happy someone just stepped in from picking wild flowers. That and your ring light, which always makes me think of the Criterion Collection logo. Good luck with the Etsy shop set-up!

Thank you Penny! There is, luckily enough, another floral straw hat perched underneath the one I plan to sell, so a hat will remain!

I’m terrified of bugs. I’m trying exposure therapy. I can now actually look at a roach on the screen. However. If I ever find one in my home I will totally lose my shit. And I mean totally

So fortuitous! I just bought a length of cotton poplin from Mood and I wasn't sure how it would look as a nice A- line skirt/dress! And now I get to see how this fabric behaves with your dress. Love the knowledge I gain not just in seeing you share skills and pattern drafting, but also how fabric reacts and handles. Thanks!
