Early Access To This Week's Video // Everything I Made in 2020

Hello! I wanted to hop over here and give you all early access to this week's upcoming video! I went back through all of my footage from 2020 and tried to find a clip of every single sewing project I completed over this last year. Thank you so much for making my work possible, I could never have sewn these projects or made this many tutorials without your generous support. I can't wait to share this month's project video (and bonus project video!) here with you soon!

The voting for the bonus project was rather a tight race between the taffeta gown, hooded housecoat, and black velvet dress, but the taffeta gown edged out just in front. I'm excited to work with the moody blue, black, and purple taffeta, but I'm sure I'll get to the other projects soon here too, since it was such a very close race.

I hope you are all having an great (or at least okay and safe) December so far ❤ I have been trying to take things a bit slower this last week and actually leave myself time to reflect on this last year and recharge my creative energy so I'll be ready to jump into more big projects after the holidays. The cicada gown will be back soon enough after all...

I am a new supporter, and I like to watch videos from old to new, so that's why you'll see my comments here and there on things you posted a while ago...I just wanted to let you know, and please forgive me, but when I saw that Flemish Painting inspired fabric from Mood... well, I run and got it!

I used my „Corona“ work break in spring to pop out one project every week and I‘m suffering now because i haven’t been able to make anything since (Because Corona made working conditions worse... and overtime). glad you made this video. :) nice to get sooo much inspiration for next year.

Thank you Franziska! I'm sorry to hear corona is making your work more stressful and time consuming. I hope you get some time to create again soon ❤

Merry Christmas, Bianca! Thank you for all your great work, your humor, and your candor in your lovely Side Husselen vids. Though you haven't been able to make them because we've all been in lockdown, I like the thrift haul videos where you style your 80s and 90s finds in a vintage inspired way. The transformation of those garments through styling is so surprising. Those videos have taught me to look at thrift store items with a clearer picture of their potential. I wish you, your family, and your cats all the best in the coming year. Rachel

Thank you and Merry Christmas right back! I really miss thrifting, and making my thrift hauls too, as I have such fun styling things in a more vintage way. Hopefully by the end of next year it will be safe to be out on the hunt thrifting again ❤

Love the looks you come up with. I too love mustardy/ citrine-type colours. I think I’ve bought enough yarn and fabric in th to last a long time

The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you India! They really are such lovely colors 💛

The styling videos and the lookbooks are my favorites. I learn so much about how to combine components and how to accessorize. And - wow, you averaged more than one piece a week. Taking a well-earned pause to celebrate accomplishments is a great way to end the year!

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Eve! Definitely taking a bit of a sewing break over the holidays!! 😅

I loved watching this video - you style projects so beautifully and it is very inspiring. I hope you are able to have a lovely festive break 🖤 how about creating a princess style coat to wear with your mid-century outfits? I'm thinking deep green with a blonde or leopard collar and cuffs 🖤

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Angela! I have always been far too lazy to make a coat, but perhaps if I manage to practice tailoring a bit more I could be ready for the experiment next winter. I am super lucky to have found so many great coats at the thrift store for such bargains, so I have never really thought of sewing my own. Angela Clayton makes wonderful vintage coats herself though!

Looking at that cicada dress again reminds me I have 2 skeins of 100% silk lace weight yarn in my stash. Another project to add to my 2021 knitting queue.

Wow Bianca! Like @Gloria Chiang said, that is almost 5 garments/month...that's some motoring!!! And they're all gorgeous too!! I'd be so proud if I just made one of them. Time for you to perhaps partake in a glass of champagne or a hot eggnog and rest. Take it easy; stay safe. Sending best wishes and restful vibes from Down Under ❤️🌺🇦🇺😎

The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Rhonda! We usually have champagne (well, prosecco) with a big brunch on Christmas, so a glass of bubbly is indeed in my near future! ❤

It has been a fun year to watch you work. My style is different from yours but your instructions on manipulating a basic pattern has been a ton of fun to learn. I am making my mother a suite and I've made my daughter a perfect fitting blouse this year, lets see, a pinafore for myself and a couple of sweaters, knitted. That's it, now look at what YOU have accomplished and if you don't feel successful, well.... you're nuts, LOL. BTW I am retired, so no, I DID have as much time on my hands as you had! You mentioned that you don't know tailoring techniques, and that you would love to learn. How about you do a tailored project, and teach the rest of us what you've learned? Sort of like your Victorian Evening gown? I think each tailoring technique you learn could make a full show or two??

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Ingrid! I am thinking of trying to do a tailored 1940's suit jacket next fall!

Hi, You have a most fabulous wardrobe to wear when the world gets back to some semblance of ordinary. I love the pin you're wearing in the intro and outro. So simple and so effective. Thank you. Yours, Ann

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Ann! I can't wear to wear these things out indeed!

Bianca on average you made 5 garments a month...5! that's amazing please take it easy

The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Gloria, I will try to...I'm not great at rest ha 😅

That’s a lot of beautiful stuff you created this year - it made me realize how much I miss sewing. Need to work harder on setting up that sewing room of mine. Blade Runner suit and gold evening gown from film noir lookbook are my favourites - they are both wonderfully dramatic on they own terms❤️ I hope that you will make the housecoat video one day for a very selfish reason - it gives me that „I need it in my life” vibe. Very strong one 😀

M
Magda Mazur · December 15, 2020

*blade runner dress ofc. It’s 1am here in Poland, my mind clearly went to sleep already 😀

Beverley Chong · December 15, 2020

My favourites are the bladerunner dress/suit, the white dresses made lately and the whole cicada project. I do love all your other things though and your trousers are lovely xxx

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Beverley!

Wow! So many things!! I love them all. I don't think there's one thing that I don't like haha. My faves are probably all of the trousers (I'm a busy stay-at-home-momma, so I love me some trousers). And I love anything with a puffy sleeve, like your peasant blouses. I love those striped taffetas when they meet up in a chevron-like pattern. That always looks so amazing to the eye.

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Mel! The sleeves on the peasant tops are one of my favorite things from the year, so much sleeve floof! I have one more colorway of that striped taffeta, so I think I'll make a top on the channel with it sometime next year ❤

Donna Bowers · December 15, 2020

I love the styling vids too. Especially when you have those deliciously teasing storied in them :)

Thank you! I am always so glad when people like the story element, seeing as writing stories is my other passion ❤

Krystal O'Connor · December 15, 2020

I love the styling videos so much! Honestly those might be my favorites haha. I hope you take some well deserved time off and enjoy the holiday :)

T
The Closet Historian · December 19, 2020

Thank you Krystal! I'm going to try and take some time off from sewing for sure, I need to get back to writing before I go a bit mad 😅
