Good morning Patrons! Ahem, it's 1:35 am here as I type...oops! Here is the golden gown project in all its glittering glory, I hope you like it ❤

I just became a Patron so I'm binging all the past content! I think reusing pieces in your lookbooks is a great idea. I love the clothes but the way you narrate them makes it even better. Each one is unique even if pieces are repeated.
Gorgeous 💜
Thank you Irene!
I watch on my iPod Touch which has a small screen
Lady, you look GAWJUZ!!
Thank you Luna!
For movies, I'd suggest Brief Encounter. Not exactly "film noir" but dear gods, what a powerful and memorable film.
Thank you for the recommendation Sarah! I haven't seen it yet but I'd certainly like to!
Came out great! Love seeing the texture and dimension of this fabric, despite it's marshmallow-ness haha! This dress definitely has that va-va-voom factor!! <3 Would love to see a video where you talk about which fabrics you love or hate to work with. Not sure if the algorithms would zap you for doing a sit down & chat about fabrics video, but I'd love to hear you talk about it :) I am a classic film buff, and definitely enjoy the Film Noir genre. Can't wait to see your looks for that! I agree with you though, they don't always have the most fabulous clothes. Many have more of an "every day" or "dark" look to fit the film. I enjoy "The Killers," "The Big Sleep," "White Heat," "Shadow Of A Doubt." Those are a few good ones to check out.
Thank you Mel! Mostly I just don't work with polyester or knits...which I broke both of those rules with this project! My favorite fabric to work with is cotton sateen ❤ Of the noirs here I've only seen The Big Sleep, and I just had it on again while I was sewing another dress for this project ;)
Oh, gorgeous! And I know exactly what you mean by 'marshmallowy'. (Fwiw, I like the idea of repeating garments across lookbooks, esp if they're things you personally won't get much wear out of. It's nice to see one garment across several moods, particularly for things like evening gowns that most of us have few excuses to wear. It showcases more versatility.)
Thank you Savannah! Perhaps it will end up in another lookbook feature from a galaxy far far away...one day!
Amazing dress... the fabric did look like a pain to work with but you smashed it as always! Reuse pieces as much as you want in lookbooks! I'm loving how hard you've fallen for your singer too... i use a singer "heavy duty" machine but also have a 201k and i just need to brush up on how to maintain and oil it. Those machines are perfection.
Thank you Jennifer! I ended up making something out of the left over fabric already despite how much it annoyed me ha 😅
Oh man! Now I want to make a 30s or 40s evening gown that I really don't need!! 😆 I think the end result is gorgeous! But I can totally commiserate on the marshmallow-y fabric; I'm currently working on a 50s jumper dress made out of corduroy (also from mood) and it's driving me crazy how pillow-y it is!! Also, I say you should totally reuse pieces for multiple look books! I think it's really cool to see the same items styled in different ways!
Thank you Clara! I hope you conquered the marshmallowy fabric too!
Yes Thin Man movies - not so noir, but lots of booze and fabulous clothing. You created a beautiful gown here!
Thank you! I've only seen the first one so I need to seek out the sequels!
Oh my! I absolutely love this dress. I think I would just wear it to the grocery. The bodice and darts are so dramatic. Gorgeous!
Thank you Debbie! This dress, a face mask, and a cart full of paper towels ;)
Lovely gown, really makes the fabric speak for itself. I really hope YouTube doesn't get you down, I'd hate to see you burnout. I do often worry for the creators who make videos full time. Sewing doesn't really lend itself to the demands of the algorithm. My favorite noir is Elevator to the Gallows, though that's 50s. Thank you for another great gown!
Thank you Natalia! You are very correct that the pace Youtube demands and sewing projects are not very well aligned ha! I haven't seen the film so I will have to add it to my "to watch" list ❤ I'm taking a few days off after this lookbook luckily so I can rest up a bit!
Gorgeous. I love the different colored spot lights, including how you lit the set for Halloween. As for your Noir Lookbook: Perhaps an Intro that is a brief Noir movie scene; you are so great at set design. How about "Bond. Jayne Bond...." I know you could write something cheeky! BTW: don't care how often you repeat dresses etc...it adds to your allover creativity.
Thank you Victoria! I have a lot of fun with all the lights that's for sure 😅
Fabulous! I’m really excited about the Film Noir lookbook. I haven’t seen a lot of film noir, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Double Indemnity, and I’ve definitely seen Sunset Boulevard. I’ll have to check out the other ones people are recommending. And story time is always a good thing. I think we all need more human connection in these quarantine days.
Thank you Tina! I really liked the Strange Love of Martha Ivers and it's in the public domain and therefore free on YouTube which is nice and easy too :)
Oh how fun! Several other youtubers I like (Hannah Witton on her More Hannah channel, and Leena Norms) both did videos this week that were along the lines of "I haven't worn anything *fun* in ages!" It was super inspiring... I may have gone a tiny bit overboard on thredup yesterday searching for specifically *fun* clothes. :-) This gown would definitely fit the bill!! P.S. I love me some Bond stuff, so would be totally up for a Bond Girl lookbook... maybe you could make each Bond Girl outfit also have a fun spy gadget?
Thank you Caitlin! I watched both of those videos too! I think I may go for a Man From Uncle instead of Bond lookbook for my future spying, though I don't have many 60's outfits so I'd have to get pretty creative.
Simply fabulous! Good luck with getting back to your writing - I too become very itchy if I haven’t written for a while.
Thank you Kristy! Hopefully soon here after one more Victorian project!
This is one heck of a sultry gown! It has a perfect posterior for a glamour gal. And check out those gams! Whew! Revealing without blatant skin. Well designed you. Which school did you attend in LA? I spent my freshman year at USC because of a full academic scholarship. I wanted to become and Art Director for TV because there were not enough women. 1983-1984. I lived half a block away from where the Jackson’s were filming and got caught in the riot when everyone found out Michael had been set in fire. Helicopters lifting off with people people screaming in fear. Due to my mother, I have seen all of the Film Noir movies, I like the whole Thin Man series. Also for a cool comedy I relish Topper with Cary Grant (one of my favorite bisexual heart throbs). I am sure you must have seen Philadelphia Story - Katherine Hepburn (another favorite Bi-sexual Icon) who wears a glittery dress in PS very like the one you made in this video. Stage Door with Katherine, Lucille Ball and Ginger Rogers - I adore this movie.
Thank you Thea! So much gam 😅 I attended a tiny school called Woodbury University in Burbank for one year. I have indeed seen Philadelphia Story and Stage Door and definitely enjoyed them both, I should rewatch them soon. I haven't seen Topper so I'll make a mental note for the next time it pops up on TCM. I love TCM online, but the films change so darn frequently you have to act fast!
Beautiful Gown! You aced this one. "Inch my way down....literally" Love your wit. An often overlooked Film Noir movie is "Raw Deal" starring Marcia Hunt. I saw it at a convention screening and got to meet Marcia Hunt, afterwards at a reception and I got her autograph. Ahhh, good times, good times.
Thank you Rob! I love Hunt's book The Way We Wore, one of my favorites for browsing for inspiration ❤ I'll have to watch Raw Deal as I haven't seen it!
This dress is everything. I need that fabric but sending cost from the US to Iceland is ridiculous 😭 hopefully I will be able to find something similar from a European store! Sadly I don't have any recommendations for a film noir, my fave is sunset boulevard but you mentioned it so.. 😊
Thank you Helga! International shipping is certainly a killer anymore for sure, it's so so expensive now!
Wooooowwwww!! You knocked this one out of the park! As far as Film Noir recommendations go, I like the fashion in "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (Lana Turner in an all-white wardrobe, designed by Irene), "Fallen Angel" (costumes designed by Bonnie Cashin), "Laura" (also Bonnie Cashin), and "Gilda" (costumes designed by Jean Louis). I also LOVE "The Thin Man" series, which is too early to be technically considered Film Noir, but was based on a Dashiell Hammett novel and has all of the necessary ingredients of murder, cynical detectives, and lots of alcohol. The costume designer was Dolly Tree, who had a hand in dressing a lot of MGMs biggest stars in the 30s. My degree was in film history, so this is one of my favorite topics! :D
Thank you Lacey! I remember really liking The Thin Man, and I like Myrna Loy in general, so I need to watch the sequels! I loved the fashion in Postman, I even bought some white seersucker to make a dress inspired by one from the film next spring. I haven't seen Fallen Angel or Laura yet so I'll put them on my list :)
Wow! Wow! Wow! You look gorgeous!! Definitely Hollywood Glam! Loved the effect of the gold and the way the darts catch the light. Just gorgeous! I bit the bullet and bought some beautiful cotton sateen from Mood Fabric. It is beautiful and good quality. I don't think we get the quality of fabric Down Under. Hope you get a chance to get back into your writing. Take care and look after yourself. Sending good vibes and best wishes to you and yours from Down Under 🌺🇦🇺😎 {I worked out how to get the emojis on this new mac 🤓]
Thank you Rhonda! I'm glad you liked the sateen, it's still my favorite fabric to work with by far ❤
9:30am for me, so it’s perfect 😀 so is the gown, glittery gold is what my heart needs lately! ❤️
Thank you! I should wear it around the house to give me a boost 😅
