Dispatch no. 3 - Updates Podcast
A lot of rambling about writing, some stuff about the interior decor of Blade Runner, and a few lingering worries over the family cat, this month's podcast is rather late all right, but at least it's quite long?
I forgot to talk about the photos I took and article I wrote for The Vintage Woman Magazine! Which you can see and read here : https://thevintagewomanmagazine.com/matchy-matchy/
This is the first time I have guest posted for a magazine's blog (I did a guest post for the wonderful Jessica of Chronically Vintage many years ago!) and I know the editors move stuff around in the article if they need to or make little copy edits, but like...I may use commas weirdly sometimes, but I do prefer them where I originally put them...you know? Still, so so lovely to have worked with them and their work is super great!

As a fellow writer, every attempt to explain writing makes the author sound insane. Or so I've been informed everything I try to explain my process lol
4 years later here and I'm enjoying listening to your podcasts as I pack for an upcoming move. I gather that you narrated some of your writing for us somewhere around May 2020. I've heard a few people mention it in the comments, but have never been able to find the recording. I'd really love to listen. Is it possible you could reshare the link? Maybe it's been taken down. No worries either way. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the glimpses into your characters in these older podcasts from before I joined. (PS. I'm moving to a house from 1900. My landlord decided to sell the place I currently rent and so moving has been a shock. I wish it were you and not me. Soon it'll be your turn!)
I love classic films! The Postman Always Rings Twice is a good. Have you seen Double Indemnity? That is another great film noir. Roman Holiday is one of my favorites along with a lesser known film from the '40s called Something For the Boys. It's cute. I am also a big Alfred Hitchcock enthusiast so I must recommend some of his lesser known films: Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Saboteur, and Strangers on a Train. Happy viewing! Thanks for the great content! Also, I loved your article for the Vintage Woman Magazine. Collecting accessory sets is something I'm in the beginning stages of and you are constant inspiration.
Thank you Dana! I have seen Double Indemnity but have a lot of noirs left to see for sure, and many more Hitchcock's as well, though I really enjoyed Rear Window and North By Northwest of course! I've seen Roman Holiday a few times (excellent outfits!), but I'll add the others to my list <3
I can't believe that Patreon didn't notify me about your prequel chapter!
Hmm...now I'm thinking I need to send out messages if notifications aren't working? I'll have to look into it!
Dear Ms. Historian. Mysterious things are afoot and I think you are partly to blame. I'm now a proud owner of a sewing machine. I just bought a Husqvarna Automatic from the years before or after 1960. I won't know until it gets here, in a week or, so exactly which year it was built. They are very hardy machines and they cost about as much as the basic new ones does today but these things just keeps going. They are built in metal not plastic and you could probably use it to hammer in nails with it, if you are so inclined. They are very desirable I've found out, as I have lost a couple of bids the last week when I've been hunting for one, but I was I finally able to procure one. I hope you are well. I'm off out on the interweb to shop for scissors and other things needed, before I try my hand at this sewing thing. Oh, for Film Noir, Try The Seventh Seal, directed by Ingemar Bergman. It's hauntingly good. I know it's in Swedish, but if you can deal with subtitles you will not be disappointed. Interesting facts, the man, Nils Poppe, playing the Jester was the greatest comedic actor of his time, and to be honest in a lot of my time too, in Sweden, and the Death is played by Max von Sydow, whom then went on to play the Exorcist, Star Wars and the Game of Thrones, until he passed away a couple of months ago, aged 91. Yours, Ann
The Seventh Seal is a MUST watch.
Recommended watch list: World on Fire on PBS, I want to make Robina's red pinstripe skirt suite. Classic movies try Double Indemnity, Citizens Kane, M, and Night of the Hunter (Harry Powell is such a gripping villain)
Thanks for the recs Sarah! I have seen Double Indemnity but not the others!
One of my favorite movies is "Brief Encounter" (1945) starring Trevor Howard and Ceclia Johnson. Directed by David Lean, story by Noel Coward. Pay very close attention to the first scene. Have tissues handy.
Excellent I haven't seen that one yet! Thanks Rob! On the list it goes...
I’m glad Gunny seems to be doing better. Hopefully he continues to improve.
Thank you Violette! ❤
