Avocados & Arsenic // Painting Update!
The ceiling of the sewing parlor is painted (well for now, patterning to come later), the walls have 3 coats of 'avocado' and the trim 2 of 'onyx' in a nice satin finish. I have tried about a dozen different colors for the flower petals on the frieze design and have finally decided on a deco-ish Nile green.
Listen, I loved the purple, you loved the purple, my mom liked the purple, we all like purple, but it just wasn't working for me in practice. Medium and darker purple shades just faded into the background entirely and the flowers got lost. Lighter purples made the whole thing too 'pastel' goth for my jewel toned self....I promise I tried!
Then I tried aqua, then an aqua purple combo. Lighter blues work but also lean too pastel again. A mustard yellow or more acidic olive tone works for sure, but for some reason I prefer the slightly radioactive Nile green. It's the art deco, jadeite, Vaseline glass lover in me, I even almost hope it might glow in black light because I'm /that/ kitsch apparently. One more shade of green to the mix!
I am in LOVE with the black archways and bright olive green walls. I can't wait to get this black paint on the rest of the trim in this house! I have to go get some more of it.
But first, the fancy pet store, becuase my kitties have turned their cute noses up at both of the new pricey foods I picked up on my last errand run. It's their usuals or revolt apparently, so I must quest...

Hi, I opened this just now at bedtime with my DH in the room. The first words out of my mouth was "Oh Ms. Historian and I don't share the same colors. No news there that I rarely have the same taste as normal people. Like normal, normal people I should say." It's a relief to hear that I did have the same taste of all the not so normal, normal people, but it ended up not working. I'm happy for the small wins. The people here might not be "the norm" out in the world, but apparently they are just as weird as I am. When it comes to the what-do you-call-them thingies that you are currently stencil on your walls, are you sure you can just plug your design into Spoonflowers' database and have it come to you in a roll or five? You could either stack them so you get more than one per sheet, or you can put the pattern in lengthwise, and maybe stack two of them on the same roll if the fit, and then hanging them lengthwise. We wallpaper a lot in my country, even if I've only done one room once in my life. They are to my mind much easier to do, than the mammoth project you are undertaking. If it would help you out I reformulate my suggestion from earlier. I'd more than happy. I really hope that avocado color doesn't look like it does in my computer, in the real world. The word meconium, and baby sick after trying canned peas, comes to mind. You mentioned olive and that isn't what I see, which is very reassuring. I take it that you are getting closer to opening your sewing parlor fairly soon. Are you going to have a grand opening with ribbon cutting and cake or whatever is warranted on live stream for such a momentous occasion. I hope you do. That would be fun, but just a thought from the brain that should be asleep, was it not for the soreness from yesterday's training session, and some changing weather keeping me up. So I'm what's that favorite phrase agan rambling? I have problems with my time keeping. In my head it' still just after Christmas, when my trainer told me that it's basically only 17 days left to the competition. I'm nowhere near prepared for it yet, but the number of days don't care, so I'm missing my honorary grandson's birthday. DH will travel and even stay with them, which I know the boy will love. He really loves his grandfather, an having him stay in their apartment, so he can sneak up in the morning and the two of them can have their own breakfast, and play for a bit. As a side effect the parents can sleep in, so they are going to be happy too. The boy loves pink and black, and at the moment he is also into spiderman. Unfortunately I haven't found anywhere where I can buy sequined fabric in town. I have been thinking about making him a black t-shirt with a heart in pink sequined fabric, when I get up there next week. I'll be at his birthday party with all of his friends from kindergarten, gymnastics and swimming. He is turning four, and is growing up so fast. How was that for rambling? For anyone still reading, thank you. I hope you found it even slightly entertaining, and if you didn't I'll probably hear about it, right? I Remain Sincerely Yours, Ann
I mean it has to complement the blue patterning table of doom doesn't it?! My colours 😍 💙
It's really beautiful. I personally liked that choice of colors anyway, so hah!😂
I keep coming back to look at the photos- that stencil is so intricate i love it
Now if I put those colours together, it would look one huge pile of unpleasant smelling yuk. You do it and: 'Gawjuz!' I love your vision lady.
OMG, I want that somewhere toooo <3 Love the stencil work.. every piece of it. And the Cat revolt is "fun" :D
If I found your design for sale as a wallpaper border I couldn't hand over my money fast enough. Stunning!
I don't mean to be too familiar but have you considered Chew? I kind of sound like a commercial but I do love not running to the pet store for litter and kitty food. You are so busy I thought it might save some time and stress. Just a thought.
This is going to be so gorgeous in probably almost every stage from here on out! I am also so happy for you that you got that rolling scaffold. I have been a painter and know how long it takes to build up both the arm and calf muscles to paint on a ladder with your hands above your own face height for hours, and how extremely noodley AND sore your whole body is until then. You are probably already experiencing that, but giving yourself all the physical support and help you can is super smart, and probably way safer from a falling while living alone standpoint. They make paint buckets with an adjustable side handle that makes it easier to grip and a built in magnet that can stick your brush to the inside by its ferrule. They aren't as cheap as random cups and pails, but if you are mostly using one color at a time, I have found having one around to use to be a worthwhile investment.
Totally extra. Nothing ordinary.
Love!!!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💙💙💙💙💙
I mean you just drew that? And then you use the machine to cut the stencils and then you stencil that? that's amazing! wow Bianca that really is something there ❣️❣️❣️
It looks lovely so far!
Oooh, these colours are perfect! Can’t wait to see it done. ❤️
your design is exquisite!🤩🤩🤩 maybe I need to revamp my sewing room, too 🤣
Beautiful as always. Can't wait to see it all put together
Yup, that Nile Green is perfect!!
This is going to be amazing! 🥰
You’re such a genius-this border is amazing!!! So excited to see it all come together 💙💚🖤
This is perfection! 😍😍😍
Ooh, I love this color combination!
You could do glow-in-the-dark accents using something like Mooncat’s ‘Green Eyed Monster’ nail polish. I’m thinking on the spiders’ bellies and feet(?)
Or the mosquitoes?🤔
It's so intricate and colorful, it's amazing! So much work but so dang awesome ❤️
Exquisite choices….it will always be then planning, then deciding….then the change direction at the last moment and the adventure/journey reveals itself….fantabulous my friend 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
That stencil is AMAZING
I love the ceiling color.
this looks beautiful. Congratulations on the progress! When transitioning to new food, it's a good idea to transition them by mixing the old with the new in increasing amounts over a period of days/weeks. These guys have had a lot to adjust to recently so changing their food too might feel like one thing too many!
I adore this combo.
Through the arch looks like an old photo buried within this modern update. I love it.
I can’t believe how fast you are at the painting
I love purple, but that little preview of what it will turn out like makes me not even want to consider purple, the colours are too perfect together like that. You can always put purple accents in in other ways (or not, what ever happens happens) Also, cats suddenly not eating their food because they don't like the weather that day (or what ever their reasoning is) and having to go out to gamble on some new food is something I have had too do a little too often this past year. It's like they got this fancy new cat tree and they got accustomed to this new standard of luxery and the food doesn't match up. But even while grumbling about it, I do it with love because they're just too cute.
charmed and amused by your little chunk of sample wall
To use a word my dad liked to use, this is FANTABULOUS!!
I like this palette a lot. Good revision!
I can understand a picky kitty. My Ciri wants gravy but not meaty cat food which I do not understand at all ❣️😅
Absolutely in love with this. We have similar aesthetics! 💕 I seem to recall you mentioning a coverage issue with your color choices. A trick I've learned works well with more saturated and jewel tone colors. I have them tint my primer gray. It really is a game changer. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the finished results.
Told ya ;) The purple was beautiful but a bit too muted. Jokes aside the design is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I was as creative and/or patient!
Stunning!!! I love your eye for colors 🤩💚💙🖤
I adore the avocado - all those colours are just perfect. Use purples on a different room!
Can't wait to see it all finished!
