The Orphans Revenge, chapters 1-5...oof why does it make me so nervous?
I guess all I can say is please treat this like the glimpse of my crumpled little soul that it is. Please don't share this file anywhere ❤ I'm trusting you okay? I hope I can share it all far and wide one day, but for now, it's gotta be our little secret alright?
Of course this is technically still a draft, because I hope an editor, and certainly a copy editor will help me polish this manuscript before it truly comes to life. Things are subject to change, and in some ways I can only hope that they will, becuase it will mean things are afoot and this wall of text might just become a book. Until then, it's in flux. I know I change at least a few dozen words around every single time I read through it all, and thank goodness, becuase it has gotten so much better over the years.
Still, as I've said, this story is finished, in my heart it is whole. If no one ever likes it but me, I will be enough. I can't wait to change an adverb or two, but I could never change much more than that.
I can only hope that a few of you love them as much as I do. The funny thing about writing is that's it's all your own little world, until you let everyone else in, and I have certainly never shown my heart to so many people!
If you've got questions about anything in particular, or writing in general, I might do a special extra podcast answering those next month, as long as answering something won't include spoilers for the rest! Maybe DM me those though, so the comments can stay "spoiler" free.
Thank you for believing in me, I hope you like it.
(PS: hopefully this file works, uhh tell me if it doesn't okay?)

5 months later and I'm re-reading your curious story. It amazes me how effortlessly you glide from glam fashion looks, to roughing it with characters in dangerous days. Thanks again for sharing!
Thank you so much Penny ❤ I miss these charcaters so much right now while I am stuck away from writing 😩 Once the house is found I will take a looong writting break!
Wow, I read it in one breath! Great! I want more! I am immediately hooked to the main characters. Bianca, thank you so much for sharing your "child" with us. You made a brave step! And I am so thankful for it. You have the ability to tell a story, starting almost in the middle and capture the attention of the reader to find out more and more. Please please please chapter 6 to 10?? As a small sequel? 😘😘😘
Thank you Diana!! ❤
I am sooooo sorry! I was so excited to read this but I was so busy and I am such a slow reader but I just finished the chapters and it's so good, I can't wait for you to have a house and be settled to you can start thinking about getting this published because I NEED more. I want to know everything about this world, it's so intresting and what will happen with these characters and just... amazing and the years of editing have definitely paid off. English is not my mother tongue so I am afraid I am horrible at putting in words you can understand how much I love this. but yes please please PLEASE get this published or do it yourself because I know this is only 5 chapters but I now need all 3 books.
Thank you!! You've made my day ❤ I really want to devote the time to seeking an agent as soon as this house/move madness gets settled this year 😵
Loved it! I’m all there for when you’re published. Your characters are so vivid. I cannot wait to read the rest one day!! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much Sara!! ❤
I loved it so much! Thank you for being brave and sharing your world with us!
Thank you Laura! ❤
I just read it all in one go and now there's no more! What a tease. Captivating from the get go, thanks for sharing it
Thank you so much Ella! ❤
I need more! I'm hooked already :) And can I put in a cheeky request for an Orphans Revenge lookbook?
Thank you Jennifer! I'm afraid Fernie, Mori, and I all have far too different wardrobes to make that work, no one in Yantian has access to lurex brocades anymore 😅
This is fantastic and I am hooked. Definitely can't wait to read more!
Thank you Calyanare!!
You put an incredible amount of research into this book! It’s very you, and when I turned the page to Chapter 2, it was like switching from a coarse, rough fabric, to one of your fancy brocades. The fabric element very clearly came to mind there, almost like a curtain being raised on the next chapter. You set it up nicely! I could even see this being performed on stage. The Joycean stream-of-consciousness bits are very effective, and I love how you make use of all of the five senses. The main characters seem to be like yin and yang. They suit each other, and I love Fern’s idiosyncrasies (“hm?”🥰). It’s definitely character-driven, as you say, and I really love all of the back and forth dialogue. I’m sure we are all wondering what happens next in this story. Thank you for giving us this peek into your writing. I loved it!
Thank you Penny! ❤
I L-O-V-E it!
Thank you Ines!! There is a character in another book of mine named Ines, she's a very high ranking corporate gangster with fine jewelry and cool luxury clothes. I think it's such a pretty name!
TL;DR: Not to be dramatic, but I would literally die for Fern and Mori. They are precious little babies and I love them already. Long: I can't get this world out of my head. I totally understand why this story has subsumed you. Your Blorbos have infected my brain. The world? Incredible. It is just the perfect amount of greasy sci-fi. I audibly gasped when I realized there was space travel (rich people space travel but still). The world building is top tier. You've painted such a detailed picture of your Yantian. I can see your influences clearly, but this does not feel at all derivative. I LOVE working class characters. An ex-pirate gangster with a heart of gold and dibilitating tattoo habit? Be still my heart! And Mori? What is her deal?! Why is she here?! Who is Katsu? I need to know!! And Fern and Mori together???? I mean, what a great team and what if it's love!?! 🫣 👉👈 And don't get me started on the captain. He's on thin fucking ice as far as I'm concerned. I can't wait to see what happens to him. I first read it in one sitting under an hour. I have already reread it. I woke up today thinking about what's going to happen next. Needless to say, I'm hooked. I LOVED it and I can't wait to read the rest. Like literally, I'm going to have a hard time waiting 💚 PS, reading this on mobile Firefox was fun. The formatting was very weird. About a third of the sentences were in a completely different font and size than the rest. PPS, my phone keeps wanting to autocorrect Mori to Morin and I don't know what that's about.
❤ I'm still mad at firefox for messing with the pdf, so rude!
I read the whole thing and loved all of it. The world building was fantastic - near future, dystopic, but so understandably so- and every piece of technology used made total sense as an extrapolation. Fern puts her “dead ceiver” on a charging pad; Lennox has a tablet; radios are a way to hide guns but the city center guards might not even need lead for theirs anymore. Mori asks Fern where all the people went; Fern points up, to the “colonies”. I loved the pacing. We kept moving forward after chapter one, which was pretty brutal as an introduction. I was really surprised that our literal fish out of water’s first year on land wasn’t going to be the focus of the tale. That really kept me intrigued. I was surprised, in a good way, by the introduction of Mori. I had expected Fern to be the character in need of guidance, but to put her in the initial position of rescuer was bold - and the fact that Fern isn’t a criminal princess a year after being tossed over the side of the staunchly no-killing ship was fantastic. No Mary Sues here, just a woman missing her home and trying to make another found family. (And she was found in the South China Sea as a six year old white girl? Fascinating.) Mori, herself, was a character I wanted to know more about. The idea that she’s sacrificing herself for someone; the hint that she hopes or believes her sacrifice is temporary; the “rebels” she’s sort of working with … I am very interested to hear more about THAT. I also can’t wait until the ship comes back; I have the feeling Fern’s old world and her new might clash again. Captain Reade’s brittle code (everyone but him and his is “scum”? yikes, bud, whatever gets you out of bed in the morning) doesn’t seem very tenable. Especially if he needs to keep putting in at ports controlled by groups like the Gate. I sincerely hope you’re able to keep querying agents and that you get some interest. Your worldbuilding reminds me of Tad Williams’ Otherland. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
I agree!!
I just have to say that I love your "Fake Addressville, NOP3" on the title page.
That infamous postal code...NOP3 😂
Page 58 - it's 1 in the morning and I have to stop - but partly because I know I only have 31 more pages. If I had the rest I'd be up all night.
Thank you Jay!!
Oh, I can't wait to read it! I have to go to the doctor's office today so I will have some time to kill and it'll be great, I know it already! ❤️
I’m a painfully slow reader, but just finished chapter one and wanted to do what I can to alleviate any nerves and say I think it’s great! I know it can feel really vulnerable to share one’s art, but you’ve got the goods kid;) There is good flow, right amount of world building and set up, and I feel pulled in and intrigued about the world and the characters (I already love Fern❤️) Stoked to read more!
Thank you so much Nicole ❤ It is nervy to share indeed, but worth it whew 😅
Ooooh I'm so excited to read it! Just finished reading it and I LOVED it. I'm looking forward to the day I can read the rest of the book and the series ❤️
Thank you so much Jessie!! ❤
The link worked for me! Can't wait to read this!! Thank you so much for this special treat!!
