CBB season tips off Monday: CBBD’s first full season
CollegeBasketballData.com enters its first full season on Monday with a stable API and official clients across Python, TypeScript, and (new) R.
Keys & access
Get a free API key: https://collegebasketballdata.com/key
If you already use CollegeFootballData, the basketball API runs on the same infrastructure and shares the same monthly call pool.
Best way to use the API (official clients)
TypeScript: https://github.com/cfbd/cbbd-typescript
R (new): https://github.com/cfbd/cbbd-r
Special thanks to John Edwards for leading the charge on the new R package
Starter resources
Want to skip data wrangling? The CBB Starter Pack has clean historical data and ready-to-run notebooks:

If you previously purchased a football pack, you should have received a $5 off discount code. Check your email!
What’s next
We’re actively shipping new endpoints and enhancements throughout the season. Post requests and we’ll prioritize the most useful ones for modelers and builders.

I wanted to ask if there is a way to convert any of the clients to support PHP?
In my own efforts to scrape play by play data from the NCAA website I've found that substitutions have A LOT of recording errors. How are you handling these? I want to be sure the players on the court from the plays api is mostly accurate (a few errors is ok but to not screw up models based on play by play data and who's on the court there should probably be errors in less than 1% of plays)
Will there be model training data for CBBD?
Can we use the same API key as CFBD? Thank you!
Yes, same key.
Spread home away sometimes switched Hello. Regarding CBB api /lines I found at least a couple examples of what looks like may be a bug or error. Maryland game, and Murray st game both of those games for 11-03-2025. I think possibly home away is switched causing logic issues interpreting the lines. If you can verify or confirm root cause. That could have major downstream impacts for users. Thank you!
Appreciate you letting me know. It indeed is related to home/away being switched. I believe these should be fixed now.
Awesome, can’t wait!
