Engine upgrade

Hi folks !

For the past several months, I’ve been steadily increasing the compression ratio on images for the Android version of the game. Since I started working full-time on the game in April, the growing number of images and especially animations has made the old 2GB Android app limit more and more restrictive.

Thanks to a community member who found a hack around the Android 2GB limit, I was able to upgrade my engine version and modify the APK building process. I can now create .apk files up to 4GB. This should give me plenty of room to finish the game while keeping the Android version at good quality.

Unfortunately, as a result of the upgrade, we have to say goodbye to Android versions below 9. Starting with the next update, you’ll need at least Android 9 on your phone to play In Her Service.

Official Android statistics show that less than 1% of Android users are on versions below 9. So I hope all of you playing on Android are already running at least Android 9.

With the engine upgrade, I’ll now need to go through everything again to make sure there are no bugs. This will take some time, but I’ll be doing it while preparing the update, so the new version is still on track to release at the end of the month.
