A Cat for All Seasons

Hi, darlings.

I just wanted to apologize for rewards being late this month.

Life is just not being very nice to me right now. More sick family, more family passed on, more COVID on our island, and my wonderful, beloved cat, Lord Byron Stormageddon (pictured), is so very sick. As we speak he’s getting a blood transfusion in hopes that more blood will enable them to make some kind of diagnosis. As of tonight he is in the hospital in critical condition. His prognosis is extremely iffy.

All this has kind of...emotionally obliterated me. All the goodies and essays and excerpts and recipes are coming, I promise, I’m just a little bulldozed in the heart right now and struggling to keep up.

I love you all, and I hope you’ll understand. You won’t miss anything! But it might come all in a rush at the end of the month when I can stop crying for five minutes.

Thank you, every one of you, for your kindness and support, for your presence in my life, and your great goodness. I will try to get myself together ASAP, and be very occasionally as good as you are.

Get yourself together when you are ready, not out of any obligation to us. Your Byron looks so much like my childhood cat! Tuxedos are the best. I wish him good health and you and yours some peace.

To echo many of the sentiments above, I wouldn't think to begrudge you the time to look after your wonderful cat, and I am hoping so hard he pulls though. I have instructed my own Withy and Windle to cross their paws too.

Oh honey, I am so, so sorry. Any one of those things would be more than too much. This is such a hard time, and I am so grateful to you and writers and artists everywhere whose work helps us all get through. Take all the time; know we are here and you don't need to do anything in particular for us to be here. Sending you so much love.

Anyone who hasn't learned enough empathy, in this year of chaos that is 2020, to be able to say "You take ALL THE TIME YOU NEED it's ALL GOOD," is someone who needs to take a good long look at themselves in the mirror and start getting their soul squared away with the world again.

J

Also, please don't try to "get yourself together" for anyone else! Take your time, feel your feelings, heal yourself. Let's not put additional pressure on each other in times that are as tough as these!
