Diary of a Plague Month
Hey, everyone.
Sooo...what’s up with you?
JK we all know what’s up with all of us. We are heading into uncharted territory, personally and economically and in all ways -ally. Most of us are drawing into our respective snail shells, attempting to weather this as best we can. I’m no different, except that we’ve gotten stuck in Australia in the middle of this. We fly home tomorrow and hope that we can get through two trans-continental flights, a layover, and a bus ride with a baby and without touching another human, so that we can bunker down as islanders are really quite good at doing. Assuming anything is left on shop shelves by then. *ironic laugh-cry*
I’ll finish a book. I’ll stream All the Things. I’ll be posting rewards and extras as much as I can so watch this space, for it will be full of riches in this strange liminal downtime. We’ll be okay...if we can get there.
In the meantime, I want to thank all of you for your support and love over these last years, and express that goddammit you’re the best please keep yourself safe. Once I can get home I’m planning a little fiction project to keep you company here on Patreon while you stay in the Great Indoors. We who grew up on the internet know a lot about social distancing, and how to distance in life without distancing in the heart.
We’ll get through to the other side. We look after each other. Even if our society doesn’t know how to, we netfolk do.
Life is beautiful and life is stupid. We’re deep in the stupid now. Let’s find the beautiful in each other. Life is waiting for us on the other side of spring.
I love you all. Be well. If you are well, I am well, as those old Roman layabouts used to say.

Safest travels! 💚
Will be holding you and your family in my thoughts, wishing you a safe and speedy return to your island retreat ... and fully stocked grocery shelves when you arrive. Thank you for thinking of us even amidst everything you are going through at the moment. <3
Strange times, but hopefully my country has treated you well while you've been here. Welcome back here to Australia anytime. Thank you.
The best of luck and love to you all, safety in your travels and in your home. Talk to you soon! (I have a question to ask about some shells and pebbles I have that we picked up together one day on a walk around your wonderful island home.)
May you have the smoothest journey imaginable. Might a friend or neighbor stock you up a bit before you arrive, or is that too weird or complex?
We’re trying to have a friend pick up a few basics, hopefully that works
Thank you Cat!! So true about us netfolk. We'll make it through. Good luck on your journey tomorrow!!
Safest travels home! I will look forward to missives from our respective exiles.
I, for one, am grateful for you in this time, and in all times, Catherynne.
I'm starting week 2 of working from home. My wife already works from home. We made a Costco run a couple of weeks ago to make sure our earthquake kit was properly topped up, and I increased the margin of cat food to four weeks, so we're doing pretty well out here in Silicon Valley. We just got a "shelter in place" order today, but for the past week, every time I got takeout, it was from a restaurant with empty tables and busy kitchens, so I think a lot of people here figured it out without the order.
Yeah, I want to be doing all that! It’s so frustrating to have this huge travel between us and safety, and to know so many supplies will be gone by the time we can even get to a shop. Ugh. I just want to be home!
Hopefully once everyone's had their little moment of panic, the store shelves will go back to normal!
