Change to Rewards Due to Patreon Policy
Hi everyone!
It has come to my attention that Patreon doesn’t approve of us doing raffles and giveaways, so unfortunately, we won’t be able to do the care packages and signed book drawings anymore. Those who have already won will get theirs, but going forward we won’t be allowed to do anything that could be construed as a raffle for legal reasons.
BUMMER, GEEZ.
Over the next week or two, I’ll be thinking about what to replace the giveaways with. If you have any ideas of what you’d like instead, or indeed any suggestions for new features you’d like to see on this Patreon, leave them in the comments!
I’m at MarsCon this weekend with the Bebe and on mobile only so this months rewards will all start going up next week when I return. We did another of our Needs Must Get a Damn Name Already fine art museum comedy tweetstorms last week in Atlanta, so hopefully you caught that! We hope to visit more museums in interesting cities soon.
TLDR: Patreon says giveaways are too close to gambling so I can’t do them anymore; tell us what features you’d like to see replace them here!

Strange situation, prizes in your public, as I understand this book! Books are a very good present. Expanding horizons and vocabulary. Yes, reading is interesting, after all. Probably, on Patreon they just do not know what is gambling (((
Dave Kellett (the cartoonist who makes Sheldon and Drive) still gives things away on his Patreon. He just does it by offering it to the first person to answer a trivia question (about his own stuff) correctly. So... maybe there are ways for you to give stuff away that don't arouse the ire of the Maybe It's Gambling people. Here's a link to an example (which I hope will work for you): https://www.patreon.com/posts/art-giveaway-pal-23852896
I was browsing a couple of other artists I support on Patreon and wondered what you'd think about these two from Amanda Palmer: $25- Art in the mail (some piece of physical art she has around/has created) or $100- Post card (a physical post card in the mail). But that might be A LOT of work for you? What about doing a random number generator choice of 5 patrons a month to get post cards or something like that? I'm literally throwing ideas around here-- no idea what's really a good idea! (Also, Patreon, please allow me paragraph breaks, plskthx...) I'll keep thinking!
Deborah! I’ve always wondered if any other Amanda people hung out here! :-) I was going to mine Amanda’s page for inspiration as well...she does Patreon right, methinks. If the random generator thing is still too much like gambling, maybe a certain tier could just get stuff in alphabetical order? Or a randomized order that is set out in advance, with new patrons being tacked on the end as they arrive? Not perfect, but maybe more acceptable to the Patreon Gods (who, yeah, do not have a reasonable understanding of the importance of paragraphs ffs).
Could you post links to your adventures on Twitter here? I'm not on Twitter, but would still like to follow along. Thanks! --filkferengi
I enter almost every book giveaway I see, but I never gamble. But hey, whatever, Patreon.
I’d be fine with an extra photo of Lumen every month!
Or any of the other denizens! Yes!
