Dragon Ball Codebreakers Beta Update

Here's an update for my Dragon Ball Mobile game! It's still a beta, but I've gone through and made a bunch of improvements and added new features. As always, let me know your experience, what's working and what isn't. What you'd like to see, if anything.

I'm still leaving in manual codes so iPhone users can play along as well, but it will be absent in the final version. Android users, let me know if the camera is working properly when scanning barcodes and QR codes!

New this update

  • Ghost Battles: share a code of your team and fight a friend's squad (you play, their team is AI-controlled). Find it in More → Ghost Battle. Tracks your win/loss record. No internet needed, just swap codes.

  • Online Leaderboard: a live, shared board in More → Leaderboard with four rankings — Trainer Level, Boss Rush, Ghost Wins, and Collection %. It shows each player's strongest fighter's portrait beside their name, and refreshes on its own.

  • Boss Rush: endless push-your-luck gauntlet. Cash out your rewards or risk them for the next round (More → Boss Rush).

  • Name / gamertag: the game now asks your name on a new game and uses it. Goku and Vegeta greet you by it, and it's your leaderboard identity.

  • New app icon: the Dragonball Code-Breaker logo is now the home-screen icon.

Improvements

  • The intro/How-to-Play is about half as long now. Goku covers the basics, Vegeta covers strategy, with the repetition removed.

  • Tournament of Power finale: Goku's Ultra Instinct now shows the correct silver-haired art.

Bug fixes

  • Leaderboard name box: fixed a bug where you could only type one letter before it jumped to posting. You can now type and edit your full name normally.

  • Hardened name handling so unusual names no longer cause a misleading "connection" error.

How to get the update

  • If you have it installed to your home screen, fully close and reopen the app (sometimes twice) so it pulls the new version. If the old icon lingers, remove the shortcut and re-add it.

  • Set your trainer name, then hit Post My Score on the Leaderboard to appear on the board.

Sounds promising. Quick note though as a former game dev and active senior software engineer. The main page that the player is looking feels a little cluttered. I also tried it on a computer browser so there were times where i would be checking something mid-fight and then i cannot "back" anymore, and i'd get thrown back to the main menu because i'm guessing it's trying to look ffor the B back button of android. Might be worth reducing a lot of the UI elements into their own scenes/pages depending on categories with different elements moved into those sub-pages, and this will free up some real estate to always keep a "back" and "Home/Mainscreen" button on all the scenes for accessibility. And lastly, I strongly suggest that the "destined fights" should never be immediately the hardest unclearable enemy especially when people are fiddling around. I would either hide the "Destined fights that are hard" behind some ramp up material/fights, or make it so that the first couple of fights are easy -> normal but gets you low --> hard. And then when you lose, instead of just being thrown at the start page, give guidance to the player on where to level up or how to unlock items/characters/skills etc. There's a bunch of other Quality o Life things that i would do, but that being said, i recognize that this is a passion project, perhaps even your first passion video game passion project, and I do not mean to discredit the effort or nitpick. I am just providing feedback but I'm happy you were able to get this demo out <3 And it's promising as a fun roguelike or roguelite ( or at least, influenced) game with some polish and clutter removal :)

Not at all! I'm actually looking for more recommendations and improvements, even looking for users to attempt to "break it" and let me know about balancing. So I dont take any of it as nitpicking or discrediting. I really need MORE feedback along those lines. And yes, it's my first attempt at anything like this. I'm having a lot of fun doing it!
