The Autism Friendly Foods & Nightmare Foods (Ad-free version)
Howdy 🙂 I made this video because I wanted to help the Autism community better understand ourselves. And food is a big part of that. Plus Nin got to voice a lot of comments in the video which always makes me smile. A deep thank you for keeping me safe this month in a time where I've felt simultaneously scared, but also deeply grateful for this community. Thank you.

Mushrooms for me are in the category of "Do not eat unless thoroughly cooked into something, be it into a stir-fry, or on a pizza. Even then, I only eat it if it is being served to me by someone else.
Crazy I’m an aspie (Asperger’s) and I don’t like pasta but LOVE steak and raw vegetables!
Gristle and cartilage are the absolute worst things for me, and it's a reason why I'm sometimes not too keen on pork sausages. It can sometimes happen in beef, but not as often. I can find it difficult to have sausages without a low-level anxiety of biting into a nasty, rubbery, inedible bit, followed by my brain screaming to spit it out! It's a minefield! However, I have absolutely no problem with mushrooms!
Pork's a tough one for me too. Cartilage is probably the texture I gag on most I'd say. Pork in general for some reason just puts me off in a way beef and chicken don't, but it's a well-loved protein in chinese dishes. Interestingly, I'm the same way with liking mushrooms and I have a "mushroom risotto" meal that my mum taught me years ago I sometimes still do 😄
I've always struggled with spicy food as an Autistic person it something that I sometime like sometimes don't depending on the smell. My girlfriend is also autistic and she will always eat the same five meals and has a love hate relationship with cheese based on the texture
I dunno if you have them in Australia but in the US we have nuggets with vegetables blended in. They're designed to help make sure kids are getting their vegetables. Big fan of mushroom, partner cannot tolerate them or tomato.
Box mac and cheese is def the ultimate safe food. I go for the local store brand with the pouch of cheese goop.
Side note: the way Morty was eating pasta is basically my mentality when it’s spaghetti or fettuccine night at my house since my folks make the sauce from scratch WITH my sensory input AND my mild lactose intolerance!
Needless to say I’m very partial on my spaghetti and fettuccine because of the standard they’ve set for me… 😅
If you're willing to shill out the money for it, I would recommend a premium chicken breast. There isn't a lot of fat in the more expensive brands of chicken breast. It's fairly easy to cook at home too particularly if you fry it. Though, if you have an aversion to touching raw meat, this might not be a positive experience to you.
is this a new video or a repost of a taken down one?
New video :) I left the censored parts in this patron version
I enjoy pickles on my cheeseburgers! But only with Mac’s. I have them a specific way, only mustard and pickles, and when I eat them I remove the pickles so I get the flavor on the burger without the texture. I then eat the same pickles between burgers for a sensory reset.
Sushi is one of new comfort foods because Its healthy and I can see whats in it from a glance
One problem I have with steak that isn't cooked through-and-through is the "juices" that is myoglobin-laced water looking too much like blood, which adds to the sensory nightmare of a steak below "well-done". Also - I will *never* understand why Americans love their beef burgers to be frelling *raw* in the centre as unless you sear the outside of a cut of meat before running it through the grind *right before* the forming of the patty - you're opening yourself way too much to food poisoning from surface bacteria getting mixed in the mince... CW: Minor Med Talk (does not help I ended up spending 10 weeks in the hospital back in late-'21 as the result of a surgery precipitated by getting an under-cooked burger back in mid-'20 exposing gallstones...)
Part 2; My main comfort burger at Maccas is a Triple Quarter Pounder, Meat & Cheese Only - take a Double Quarter Pounder, add extra Patty, delete pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions (raw onions can be tossed in a black hole!) and any sauces (mustard especially)! So all the burger is in the end is: Bottom bun, 3 Patties with Cheese between them, Top bun. No sauces are needed, and veggies take away from the greasy goodness. Though I will occasionally get a McOz during summer, just because I love pickled beetroot and it's one of the few veggies offered that doesn't play merry frell with my senses.
I love tomatoes but they have to be very fresh and of the cherry variety
I'm AuDHD, and while I'm not a fan of mushrooms, but I'm fine with them. My usual method for eating them is putting them on pizza, and in pasta, specifically carbonara. It mixes in perfectly! I'm also not a fan of tomatoes lol
Surprised breakfast foods are not on here like pancakes, eggs, and bacon. So nostalgic and delicious.
First time, good to see :D Should i rename myself to Alaeternis for character simplicity? 😅 I'm like 80% correct with the foods here. Adding to the fast food bit, i find myself instinctively going to KFC after receiving a good news. Let it be about something job related or anything that is good news to my comfort. For example i'm a gamer with comfort games and Destiny 2's old content being brought back was one trigger for this.
Doh! Thought I got it right 😆 I wrote it down and everything. Feel free to message me if I made a mis-pronounciation. Otherwise I wouldn't say no to Alaeternis as it sounds like a cool pokemon! 😄
I’m autistic yet I love mushrooms, tomatoes, and most vegetables but I hate microwaved chicken nuggets, boxed Mac and cheese, and McDonald’s burgers
Oh? Do you like the texture and flavour of mushrooms? I like steamed vegetables but not raw.
Mushrooms are the worst with how slimey and rubbery they are, the same with tomato's😵💫. Chicken nuggets and tenders are great indeed😋 . I hate pasta's and Mac and cheese and i love a good steak besides beeing autisitc though 🤣.
i eat my comfort foods at work
Take it from someone in the field, when it comes to customization, there's more options when ordering at the counter than ordering on the kiosk. I don't know if it's the case for other McDonald's, but that's what I've witnessed.
You know what's a real betrayal? Sneaking spices or lime into rice.
I'd take steamed broccoli with optional cheese over raw broccoli any day of the week.
And I thought I was nuts for saying mushrooms are too slimey
You are what you attract. Don't know if it's a chicken and egg thing, but not exactly surprising 90% of us watching are neurospicy
Brilliant video as always Strider! ❤️
