The Erased Simpsons Duo (with Retrospectives)

This was a good chance to chat a bit about modern Simpsons and it's current bizarre state on Disney+! I'm hoping to cover Simpsons more on LiveStrider in the future. Next compilation should be the Creepypasta vids.

The Simpsons means so much to me! The new seasons are actually really good!

Really? So you're a friend of Simpson's theory and the Real Jims? You know I have seen you collaborate with Real Jims back in the glory days of your channel but his and Lydia's type of content always seemed a bit robotic to me.

After we moved from our Grandparents house to the trailer park (Think manufactured home that required a semi truck to haul as an oversize load), We discovered the previous tenants had left their cable hooked up. We watched it for about a year until it got disconnected. Wow, did we waste so much time in front of the TV that year.

The Simpsons is super nostalgic to me. I usually leave it or Bob's Burgers on for my pets while I'm out of the house.

Forget about D+. Physical copies are more important.

I hadn't seen the video on Lisa vs. The Eighth Commandment before, and honestly that's a shame! It was a very interesting discussion, especially since I don't know a whole lot about The Simpsons. I hadn't seen the episode, so I might be missing fuller context, but just from the description it sounds very uncomfortable and almost OCD-coded. Especially because, as you said, it's shown that Lisa is acting on fear instead of truly believing in what she's doing. Maybe I'm reading way too deep into this and just projecting my own experiences onto her, but this felt like she was acting based solely on compulsions about morality and using avoidance as a safety behavior (obviously, Lisa's a child, so I'm not trying to diagnose her or anything, just had certain alarm bells ringing from description alone). Seeing Lisa feel like she had to do something that she didn't truly believe in only because it was the "right" thing to do and she didn't want to be punished feels very much like my own experiences with OCD. I also find it really weird that this wasn't presented entirely as a negative thing? Constantly feeling like every single thing you do directly contributes to your eternal damnation is really terrifying and exhausting. I'm a little surprised that wasn't mentioned at all in the original episode. I understand this is a core tenant of Christianity, and I assume the negative aspects weren't discussed AS widely when the episode first premiered, but it seemed to not really point out the downsides from feeling like you have to live like this forever and messing up at any point would mean suffering for eternity (again, I hadn't seen the episode, so forgive me if it does beyond the offhanded grape scene and I'm missing context). I think the better way to go about this would be to acknowledge that you're allowed to follow a religious path if that's what you truly believe in, but if you're following it out of fear instead of following because it aligns with your beliefs, it's more important to focus on fighting those compulsions and doing things for yourself, not just to appease your religious figurehead. Again, very interesting discussion, thank you for reuploading this video! (I'm so sorry for the essay...this brought up more than a few feelings for me haha)

I think your perspective is totally fair as I projected my own experiences onto Lisa too. I think there's so many potential neurodivergent traits Lisa could be coded with! My mum thinks Lisa is on the Autism spectrum 😄 Though I don't personally think many past writers intentionally coded her that way over the decades.

I have mixed feelings on Homer VS Lisa and the 8th commandment but one thing I will admit that I do really like about the episode is That Lisa doesn’t shove her beliefs down everyone’s throat Like she does in Lisa the vegetarian when she ruins the barbecue party In this one, she says she won’t be watching the fight and then stays outside And it’s her family who makes the choice to stay outside. I will admit that’s a good character moment for Lisa!
