🍔 Do you have any personal "safe foods?" 🍜
After this upcoming video, I'd like to talk about the most popular "safe foods" for people on the Autism spectrum (On my "LiveStrider" Youtube channel). Are there any particular foods you love the texture of, or specific brands you always stick to for predictability? Thanks for your feedback 🙂

I apologize for the long delay, but here's a few. Burgers Pizza Costco hot dogs Lays, Soda (especially cherry vanilla coke.) And fries to name a few (though it has to be the right kind of fries, for example, I detest crinkle fries.)
Just a slice of bread with Nutella. I eat it every single day for almost my whole life.
I definitely get that choice. I toast my bread with some peanut butter. Perfect for me
I'm absolutely obsessed with sushi! 🍣
Sushi trains were the old favourite of Nin and I 🍣 My favourite was tuna and avocado sushi. Got a favourite yourself?
Most forms of pasta with nothing but grated cheese and pepper
ramen, chicken ( extra crunchy) pizza, anything savory. just kinda out grew cereal.
pizza. basic, but it just works. epitome of comfort food for me.
That depends… I have a lot of “safe” foods. Pizza, burgers, ice cream (yeah I’m a fatty)
I like most food but I'm a Watermelon Man ball it cut into slices watermelon in general
A good Hawaiian pizza always puts me in a good mood.
I can't think of anything myself, i mainly eat blackberries, but my brother (who has autism and a global development delay) really likes potato cakes, custard, chicken nuggets and toaties
mine isnt food itself but food rules, no seasoning i dont add. no mixing different types of foods unless i do it myself and if it breaks the rules hard i never want it done again
spaguetti!
Cheese and crackers ☺️ sometimes cream cheese and crackers
For me, Mac And Cheese, no matter if it's homemade, or if it's Kraft. It's just something simple that always has the same flavor
Fuji apples! My grandma always cut some up for lunch/snack time in my childhood. There’s different kinds of apples with all sorts of flavors and textures and sizes…but Fuji apples are big and have such a nice crunch. It’s the only apple I buy
Mine Are pierogies
also love Gardettos and beef jerky.
I tend to go for frozen chicken tenders or frozen pasta, cause unlike with a lot of frozen foods you don't have to worry about them getting to a certain internal temperature(thus forcing me to break out my cooking thermometer), just put in the microwave for however long it says on the package and you're good. Also love sushi.
When I was growing up, I would only eat chicken nuggets and spaghetti.
I think apples might be my comfort food as it's a fruit I've always enjoy growing up. There easy to eat as they are, preparation are small tasks like washing them and drying them, the sound of biting into a good apple has a pleasant snap when my teeth pierces the skin, and you can eat an them in many ways like chopping into slices, mash them in apple sauce, blend or squeeze them into juice and drinking them, it's a flexible fruit.
I was always too worried about worms and bugs to eat apples or similar fruits like that just straight off the tree or whatever, I don't mind stuff with apple in it as long as it's processed, but I could never eat a straight up plain apple by itself.
There are a couple of vegetables which I like not just the texture but also the taste of. And in that case it also is predictable no matter what brand it came from. A broccoli still has broccoli texture, doesn't matter who sells it. Another safe bet is chicken breast meat. Only the breast though. The texture of the wings or legs I hate.
Spaghetti Bolognese for me 🤤
kd & a chocolate milk... until they changed the kd recipe :'o( its not the same anymore... but i tend to get really attached to a specific food & eat it until i get sick & then find a new favourite lol :o)
I really like Chocolate milk too. I've been obsessed with the sugar-free cocoa for a few years now
For me that's anything pre-packages. Mac n cheese is my favorite. But it's anything that I know for 110% certain will feel and taste the same as I'm expecting every time.
From personal experience, I relied on fast food for comfort (as an Autistic person) so much, that at one point I actually ate 3 McDonald’s family dinner boxes in one sitting during my high school years, when I was being bullied (n.b. for my autism) Thankfully I’ve lost most of the gained weight from that period, but the flavours and textures were a constant for me and made me feel safe, while the smells are integral for my good mood following. Actually, when I was a child I would smell the cooking oil from outside the restaurant and would call it the smell of home.
same for me, still eat fast food today on occasion.
Little Debbies, especially their Seasonal Stuff. I love their Pumpkin Delights and Christmas Tree Cakes, but I also enjoy a lot of their other brands.
Pasta and Reese’s cups.
It’s the Monterey taquitos for me. They have worked as a very safe go to since I was a kid. Also, whoever said those square pizzas, I definitely agree
yeah I like Tacquitos too cause you don't have to worry about like internal temperatures, just microwave them for however long it says and you're good.
Dino nuggies lol
Me too!
For me, Mozzarella sticks. Also love chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven. Ice cream. Also steak and fries with broccoli.
I have plenty, basically that are sweet, savoury or spicy!
boxed Kraft macaroni and cheese, Spaghetti Os canned pasta, American style sweet dessert pudding, mashed potatoes, peanut butter cookies/biscuits, coffee with milk and sweetener, English breakfast tea with milk and sweetener (Twinings, hope that's ok, apologies if not /sarcasm 😄)
Spaghetti Bolognese and chicken schnitzel with mash potatoes are my go-tos. I don't know if there's any correlation between the two, but yeah
My favourite save foods aren't the healthyest like pizza's, and fry's 😅though at least i do have an airfryer these days. But i also really love lot's of types of meat. veggy's on the other hand i still have trouble with getting a good varaiety with to this day even though i'm in my early 30's 🙈. Oh and i have a massive sweettooth 🤣.
Pasta! I'm pretty good with spices and flavours, it's texture that usually throws me off. Pasta is a lovely consistent texture and can go with a LOT of different sauces
Grilled cheese
Chicken and fries or tater tots. I know I should eat healthier but I like consistency. I do like to branch out though with recipes I'd like to try, but I don't want to waste food and money.
Just about anything with chicken especially chicken nuggets, fingers and wings.
Cheese for Dalton. I'm struggling with food recently. My go to safe foods have always been frozen pizza, nachos, pizza rolls and Qdoba queso and chips. Lately food has made me sad/disappointed. Texture is really getting to me.
Yes! Ritz crackers, Oreos, and Ramen noodles
I love carrots and chicken nuggets. I eat pretty much the same thing every day
Certain kinds of pretzels just have great mouth feel and crunch. I usually go for the same brand of snacks and most food when possible for reliability. One food I really miss is Lays Salt and Pepper wavy chips. They were so delicious.
I find that any potato dish (mashed, baked, fries, hash browns) is a huge safe food for me, and I think a lot of autistic people can back me up on that. They're incredibly consistent in terms of taste and texture, and don't take a lot of energy to chew. I believe that makes them more of a sensory friendly option when you need something to eat during an overloaded moment. in the wise words of the late, great Dolly Parton: "I never met a spud I didn't like."
Meals that you can make entirely independently well are what's most important to me. For example, I can prepare the typical breakfast platter. Bacon, scrambled eggs, some pancakes and toast with some fruit on the side. Although these are all simple, preparing a full meal singlehandedly gives a feeling of independence that's hard to embrace when you're often coddled or underestimated, even into adulthood.
Rice is always a huge hit with me; plain, fried, risotto, with egg, in curry or almost any other kind of sauce.. its so versatile! One of my favourite things to get at pubs or restaurants is creamy garlic prawns with rice (I love prawns if theyre hot, not cold party platter style, and garlic is one of my favourite flavours). I love pasta too.
rice is good though now i'm too nervous to eat leftover rice anymore because of how easily it can spoil and get certain bacteria that can't be killed through microwaving alone. So I just use instant rice.
Flavor wise ive always had a thing for the Marucha brand of instant cup noodles, whenever i get cup noodles in the States it nevers feels the same as when I buy one from my birth place in Mexico. I couldnever explain why but the seasoning and flavors just arent right if theyre not from the mexican stores.
Pasta and instant ramen, mainly. This might be a weird one, but I genuinely love the texture of soggy cereal
Pasta, rice, tteokbokki, daifuku, firm tofu, and most potato dishes. It's the texture that really matters, I guess. These are safe textures when I'm not doing well. I can't eat meat when I'm struggling because I can't trust that the texture will stay consistent and that could cause a meltdown if I'm not particularly sturdy. It's why I don't eat a lot of meat, in general.
My sister is autistic and whenever she can't eat the dinner served (usually like fish or something) she makes herself a Stouffers frozen salisbury steak!
That's always how she refers to it, too 😂 by the full government name
Although, there are these Pasta-Roni boxes I’ve discovered about a month ago and are a consistent safe food for me if I don’t have much else to choose from.
Specifically the Parmesan cheese box!
My parents and I have an affinity for Italian American food so those are always safe bets! Pizza is also a good example but I won’t eat just any pizza, usually pepperoni and/or cheese with or without stuffed crust, an authentic margarita pizza always hits! I like salmon with white rice with a drizzle of soy sauce, but that’s more of a comfort dish along with tacos… If you can’t tell I don’t exactly have a favorite. 😅
Pasta, pizza, oatmeal cookies... there's more I can't remember at this time but there are my main ones
One safe food that I ate a ton of as a kid and am eating more of now when I haven't eaten in a while is instant ramen. Just a nice familiar savory flavor with nice texture. Same with those totino's square pizzas.
Potatoes, cheese, pasta, marinara sauce with bread, eggs on toast, basically simple dishes.
Not sure. I'm a foodie in general
