Video: Donald Duck's Strange Hidden Devil Cartoon - What was this?
For some reason, this was the most memorable Donald Duck cartoon I saw. What'd you think of it?

I think there was a common consensus that children should never smoke only grown ups should that could be why. I also had another thought, Reefer Madness came out two years earlier. What if Donald wasn't smoking pipe tobacco? What if the Devil gave him marijuana, that could explain the peer-pressure element and the fact he couldn't seem to stop smoking it. It could also explain the fact that a heavy smoker was showing the dangers of smoking.
I really do think these old cartoons, flaws and such, should be shown to kids. There is this edge to old Mickey Mouse cartoons that is sorely missed nowadays. And I believe kids can and should engage subjects like smoking, death, and temptations. Some fundamental concepts that kids should be allowed to know. Stuff like this can actually teach kids more about the world and being a person. Much more than the cocomelon slop we have them watching today.
I would like to point out that the Word of Wisdom, which forbade both smoking and chewing tobacco, was given to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1833, and became a strict commandment for entering the Temple in 1921.
Yep true. Among other organisations, some denominations of the Christian Church advocated against smoking during the 1800's. Including the Seventh Day Adventists around 1848. And as you say, Joseph Smith's Latter-Day Saints
Fun fact - there is a Porky Pig cartoon released the same year called 'Wholly smoke' which goes so much more in depth of why smoking is bad
Dang in 1930's? I never heard of that. I'll look it up
Honestly to me this is a pretty interesting piece of Disney’s history that Disney chooses to bury likely for the same reasons they bury the WW2 Cartoons. Mickey Mouse has pretty much become a family friendly franchise and they probably don’t want to showcase cartoons like this because it could destroy their current image. Still it is a shame that it’s not available on streaming.
