Video: How does Fireman Sam S1 hold up today?
Literally the first show I ever watched. How's it held up since 1990?

Small towns here in eastern North America are mostly like this. Everyone seems to know everyone else and a strong sense of community is had by all. I oughta know. I’ve lived in several such rural places.
It’s interesting that the first episode of Fireman Sam doesn’t actually have a fire, but I do like that about it. Personally speaking, as someone who grew up on Season 5, there are things that I like more in the CGI Series than in the Classic Series and vice-versa, but I genuinely believe both have their merits. (Except for Season 6…I have issues with other CGI seasons, but Season 6 is on a whole other level.)
Gee that detail about the first episode was something I didn’t even pick up on til you mentioned it 😅 I would’ve been a baby when season 5 was released (turns out it was 2003 not 2005 lmao) Just out of curiosity what are the elements you like in the CGI version more than the classic seasons? I struggle to find anything good to say about the CGI series or at least what I’ve seen anyways 😅 if we can argue a lot of the voices are insufferable in the CGI series it sounds like someone got incredibly tipsy and did a mockery of the Welsh accents even if they got actual kids to voice the kid characters it would’ve been a bit better
Irish here! The chutney that goes in curry is made with mango and has its origins in India, but here in Ireland and nextdoor in the UK we use our own savory chutneys (often called relish) on cheeses and sandwiches. If you ever feel like revisiting cheese and chutney I'd recommend a tomato chutney such as Ballymaloe Relish or Ploughman's Pickle if you want something closer to Vegemite. That's what my family made for me when I asked for the same thing after seeing the powercut episode.
Hey no way you asked for the same thing too? 😄 Glad it wasn't just me lol. I believe tomato chutney is the only version I've tried before. I wonder how cheese and chutney actually tastes lol. If we weren't both super young when we asked our parents I'd ask your opinion on the taste 😄
This looks like a delightful show. So, you watched this originally back in 1990, before you got into Sonic? Well, that might be because Sonic the Hedgehog was released the following year.
In 1990 I was stationed in Germany until we deployed to Saudi Arabia.
Fair play Strider! 🙌 the YTP in the video caught me off guard 😂 I remember the original run was full of charm and honestly quite funny at times yeah I just realised how convoluted the town becomes in the CGI series they added a feckload of characters and it’s overstimulating to look at 😖 these old ones are chill though
I'm so happy you're reviewing these! Thanks Josh. Also if I remember the DVDs I used to watch with my son back in the day Norman becomes quite the little ponce in later episodes.
Those later episodes are shite aren’t they? I’d seen snippets of them with my sister cus she used to watch it when she was small We had the DVDs with the stop motion episodes from the 80s-90s and 2005 (I think) but she preferred the CGI ones to my mums dismay 💀 it’s rare in the CGI episodes where normans not causing all the fires lmao little bastard is like a preschooler version of Cartman minus the humour and funny voice (not in the stop motion or claymation episodes he was alright there from what I remember)
One of the origonal 'this theme song goes far harder than it needs to'. WRT the downed pole, power lines and telephone lines are actually different, so less zapping risk.
I was first exposed to the show through the CGI series, but I do enjoy the older stop motion! I think both versions have their good qualities! (Except Series 6/7. Skip those ones, they suck)
I definitely do enjoy the first 4 seasons of this show and I definitely agree with your point that it has aged very well. Plus it helps that it’s available in YouTube here in the US.
I'm posting this before watching but I assume it holds up pretty well. I was more of a Postman Pat child myself, though.
Very nice. Seasons 1 2 3 and 4 of fireman sam are Good. But Season 5 is THE GOAT!
Ah heck yeah! I love stop motion and the theme song is a absolute bop in the earlier series :))
