My issue with the Itchy and Scratch Movie episode is how little sense it made even for the time it came out-like realistically how would have Homer been able to stop Bart from say catching the movie on TV or sneaking it from the video store and watching it at someone else's house? It just always breaks my suspension of disbelief. It also annoyed me how Bart got blamed for Maggie running off when Marge and Homer should've been blaming themselves for relying on a ten-year old to look after an infant. it's just not a very good episode.

Never got the hate for "Lisa Goes Gaga" personally, I think it's a damn fine episode, way better then Elon Musk one LOL. Also always dug "Strong Arms of the Ma"

I disagree on the depression episode-the point isn't that anti-anxiety meds are bad or anything, the overall message is that FAR too many kids are being overprescribed meds that they don't actually need because schools assume that every kid needs it. This might be a message that flew over your head since it's a much bigger problem in the USA then anywhere else. There's been controversy over kids i school being forcibly put on prescription meds that messed them up big time when they didn't need them. Meds can be helpful but they shouldn't be prescribed lightly, especially anti-anxiety meds, they can have serious side effects if you're not careful. I could relate to this episode as I went to a special needs school and they actually recommended putting me on Prozac and my mom was having none of it, she was furious at the school for trying to put me on something I did not need in the slightest so I could really relate to Marge in this episode. I don't think the episode is "immoral" at all and I highly doubt anyone decided they don't need meds just cause of that episode.

In regards to people deciding they don't need their meds because of this episode, I can literally point to comments of people who went off trying life-saving meds for years because of this episode. So yes. It affected people who could have deeply used anti-anxiety medication. Even to this day, one of the top comments was someone who was deeply bothered by the mis-information in "the good the bad and the drugly." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0vLSRgvu7E&lc=Ugz_Nf8e1KDNP7dQ8V94AaABAg Many have a strong distaste for doctor-prescribed drugs in America. And episodes like this gave revoltingly simplstic depictions of anti-depressants that further pushed those stereotypes with mis-information. So yeah. Entitled to your opinion. But strong disagreement from me on alot of your points there.

Finally got to view this. The line “Personally, I’d kill a god to save my family.” Goes unintentionally hard for my artist brain, the thought of such art or animation I would poetically die for. Currently forming the idea in my head.

A line that absolutely comes from my heart. Glad to see another artist appreciate it too

As someone on antidepressants, all they do is bring you to normal.

No joke, that antidepressant episode stopped me from taking meds for years, because i was terrified I'd lose myself and be unable to feel anything except fake happiness. It's honestly pretty haunting to me when i watch it now, especially how messed up i was before taking antidepressants. Also, thoughts on the boys of bummer episode? Thats my most hated ep with a terrible moral.

Also... NOT defending the episode btw... it is not acceptable that they send the message they do. (like the whole "nuclear powerplant" propaganda the simpsons had been spewing, intentionally or not, for decades.) But... It really feels in keep with Springfield to be the kind of backwards place that would see someone suffering from depression (either medical or from outwards influence) and go "Yeah, we should probably just get them high instead" And invent some extremely cheap and low effort drug that just make you high as a kite and doesn't actually tackle the issue at hand. 100% seems like something they would do. (as a message it is awful tho, 100% agreed)

I'll defend the episode because I don't think the message-"hurr durr anxiety meds are EEEEEEEEEVIL" or anything like that. The message is "don't overprescribe people on prescription meds when they don't actually need them", those things are not to be taken lightly and do have serious side effects if they are abused and not tapered off properly and there has been real controversy over schools forcibly medicating kids who didn't need it and it only made them worse.

Something that have always bothered me SPECIFICALLY about the crayon in the brain episode... The whole mouse vs homer joke? That is not physically possible for a human to beat. (with few rare extraordinary exceptions) See, mice are naturally faster with faster reflexes than humans. Literally able to react faster than we can compute. A mouse would be faster at pressing a button than a human, that isn't human intelligence in question, that is homer not being able to bypass biological limits. (Especially as a man out of shape) Also, mild ciritcism... I DO think that you did kiiinda undersell the... ehm.. "bad" scene in the Marge gets buff episode. I get that you shouldn't focus on it. I just think it is a HORRENDOUS scene to include in an episode where it is legitimately treated as a joke. Where marge straight up commited an unforgivable crime.

that's the point of the joke though.

I had to go on anti-anxiety medicine about three years ago or so. I was afraid to be on any medication because I had heard stuff like that made feelings of suicide higher, however realizing I was misinformed I talked to my doctor. I told her about how hard it was to go to sleep and other issues that were paralyzing me and while things aren't perfect, I can at least shut my brain off a little to sleep and I don't instantly fly into panic mode like I used to. It's changed my life and realtionships for the better and I'm glad it exists.

I want to comment on the antidepressant message, but I don't feel like I can because I'm on a new medication now, and I don't know how it's affecting me quite yet. Therefore, my own experience is still kind of "wait and see."

J
Josh Strider · November 8, 2025

That's perfectly fair Melinda. If you do have issues, don't forget to talk to your doctor as sometimes it can take some adjustments to find what works for your body.

I have definitely been bullied for getting really good grades in school and acting a little arrogant about it. It was hard for me to fit in with other people

F
FRAKTOR · November 7, 2025

Alas, I feel like that is to be expected with shows as big as The Simpsons. They've got so many episodes under their belt at this point. They aren't all going to stick.

J
JB's Creations · November 7, 2025

I 100% agree with the last one. My medications are what keep me alive and what allows me to feel motivated to do things and be with people. I hate that The Simpsons would dedicate an episode to shaming that.

J
Josh Strider · November 7, 2025

I am really glad to know someone else got my frustration on that one. Re-watching that episode felt so raw and made me so upset. I just really had to make a video about it. Thanks JB.
