Patron video: Why have movies gotten so long?
Howdy boss π Do you think movies have also gotten too long? I'd be curious of your opinion on this π approx 75% of the 100 longest movies are post 2004.

Fun fact: Here in the Netherlands most, if not all theaters, like Vue, Kinepolis, and Pathe all still have intermissions during a movie. Even though the movie itself doesn't have an intermission within it, at a certain point in the movie, like say a very suspenseful scene, or a chase scene in an action movie, the movie will stop, go to an intermission screen, and stay there for around about 15 minutes. More than enough time to go to the bathroom, and get another snack or a drink or something like that. It's very nice, because I tend to go see very long movies nowadays, most movies I go to see are at least two and a half hours, some of them getting close to three hours. So our theaters still having intermissions within a movie is very nice
Bah that'd be so much better. No surprise Netherlands is that considerate to viewers. I guess culturally this must've been surprising to hear lol that America and Australia are like "pfft feck intermissions" lol
Well it's not letting me see this for some reason
I love that your video on movies being too long is one of your shortest videos.
This was an amazing video π
Haven't clicked yet, but I immediately thought of "Dark Knight Rises" and "Avatar"
I thought of the latest Marvel movies.
The only ways movies really feel too long is if they pad out stuff for no reason, and not enough interesting things happen within a certain time frame. I never knew they had intermissions.
I feel as though that movies that are longer tend to want to maybe go deeper in the story or the issue at hand. Sometimes I feel though, longer movies try to spell out a lot of their scenes when they could easily explain in a shorter time and still let the audience understand what they are trying to communicate
I think it depends on the movie. If it's padded all to hell, then yes, it's too long, but some like "Wicked" or IMO some Marvel films fly by and are paced well. I do think for longer movies, a little intermission would be nice for bathroom breaks/snack refills, though.
I went and saw the brutalist yesterday, itβs 3h 35min, itβs actually shot as a classic film being shot on film, it had a 15 minute intermission. I loved that the brutalist did that because they know that people have to use the bathroom if youβre watching a long movie.
That's so cool that they brought back an intermission!
