Which do you consider "classic" Spongebob seasons?
Howdy! When do you consider classic spongebob episodes? I've heard some people say 1-3 but I think it varies by fans 🙂

1-3 + movie season four is not classic in my opinion
me and my boyfriend agree!!
I think all that involved Mr. Hillenburg (R.I.P.) and the original movie should count
I started watching Spongebob late, so this was shortly before the second movie, IIRC. They were all mixed into a big grab bag for me.
I refer to Seasons 1-4 as… The Age Of Hillenburgs.
I consider season four and the 2005 movie classic. That's probably because I was a really little kid when that comes out.
I throw four in as a classic season
I say at least up to season 4 because it has so many iconic episodes and moments
I consider season 3 plus the movie to be classic. While season 4 was airing around when the movie came out, it had a lot of different staff and a clearly different tone.
How about Seasons 1-5?
Season 4 has some leftovers from season 3, and some good individual episodes. the end of the season is a bit weaker but all in all, it's a classic season to me.
As much as I think early SpongeBob epitomizes the whole “three seasons and a movie” cliche really well, season 4 is essential if for no other reason than it got SpongeBob to the minimum episode count for syndication in the U.S.
I personally think seasons 1-3 + the 1st movie is considered the “classic” era of SpongeBob. Since that’s not an option, I just chose the first one and thought I just would to clarify my choice here
Season 4 was definitely a mixed bag with episodes, but it's still a banger to me. Anything pre-2010 basically. My brother and I are probably part of the select few who like the idiot SB and Patrick from Season 6, lol. We both quote the Pineapple Fever episode all the time.
The movie can't *not* be a classic imo, so that wins in my book
for me personally I'd even throw season 5 in there I grew up with it and it has some amazing episodes
1-3 plus movie but I won't complain about ranking season 4 as well
I was in on 1-3 because, while I like 4, I never think of it in the classic camp, but remembering that the movie is from the same time I can't not include it.
1-5 plus movie
I think Season 4 has too much iconic episodes everyone loves to not be considered part of the classics!
I know this isn't the question but omg the SpongeBob's in the picture are SO CUTE!! 🤩
I'd say about when the movie came out is when "Classic" SpongeBob ended
Season 1-3 and the movie! Season 4 had a shift writing wise, assuming it had to do with Tibbitt taking over as show runner. Not entirely Paul Tibbitt’s fault though! Just felt like they were getting more experimental plot wise
I thought classic Spongebob was only up to S3, but going by the polling numbers I guess Im wrong there. Shows what I know
I would say the classic era ended upon the release of the first movie, season 4 felt too different than 1-3 for me to consider it part of the classic era.
Movie came out in 2004
Season 4 counts as classic SpongeBob to me because a lot of episodes in season 4 feel like they could fit season 3
movie actually came out in 2
Didn’t get to watch SpongeBob as a kid I’m afraid. Or cartoons period.
