Arcade repair videos, yay or nay?

Up to this point I haven't really made any videos on repairing arcades except for the moonbase cocktail table I did a few years ago.  One reason is we just needed to "get the work done" and making videos takes a lot of extra time.  But now that we're getting closer to opening the arcade (estimating June at this point) we're going to start making some of these short 5 minute repair videos, along with some other types of arcade related videos.  These will be going on the "Time Rift Arcade" youtube channel.  But I can also post them here if you guys want to see them.

I love this idea. The only machines I love more than Commodore 64s are arcade machines. That's because the arcade machines gave me the fun experience that I always tried to reproduce at home on the computer. This has always been my major attraction to computers: the games of course!

As a child of the 80s, arcades were my favorite thing in the world, I would watch anything you created on the subject without fail!

D
Daniel Turner · January 27, 2024

Awesome :) One thing with repair and restoration videos for me is to enjoy the process. I know in the past you said how many times can you watch X machine get restored. The answer is a lot of times haha. Straight repair like this is in the same boat :)

M
Michael Wehr · January 26, 2024

I would love arcade repair videos.

R
Retro Jerry · January 26, 2024

Yay!

C
Cecil Meeks · January 26, 2024

I think I speak for many people here when I say I am "NOT" surprised that the modern equipment has to be repaired more often than the older stuff. Especially when my C64 works and my Alexa does not. lol

D
David · January 26, 2024

Yeah, Id be down for some repair vids - Just keep them to 45min or less... :-P

D
Daniel Varga · January 26, 2024

D
David McAnulty · January 26, 2024

Yeah, love me some arcade repairs!! My first repair was a William's Joust. It had a half-blown fuse! And once "working" some bad 4116 ram of course :)

J
Jesus Mendez · January 26, 2024

I definetly think it would fit in your channel, at the end of the day you talk about retro stuff, I would no doubt enjoy it

I
Icebones · January 26, 2024

please make an announcement video about this channel on your main 8-bit guy channel. the only reason i found this was because of the patreon post and I'm sure 1000s would sub if they knew you had a new channel.

B
Brant · January 26, 2024

Heck yeah!

M
Mat Cooper · January 26, 2024

M
MrHammond · January 26, 2024

It's interesting, and I always like short movies for a quick watch, so let them come! :-D. And from repair videos, you can always learn!

T
Thomas Hilbert · January 26, 2024

This video was quite entertaining, but it was rather short and showed only the repair of a component rather than a whole machine. It didn't give us much context like, what machine the monitor was from, what the history of the machine was etc. That's not necessarily bad, I'd still watch it, but it is quite different from your usual content. For that reason I'd rather have two separate channels to subscribe to.

D
David Anderson · January 26, 2024

Yes please.

J
James Lawrence · January 26, 2024

Nice. Keep up the good work. YES, we likes these !!!

A
Amichai Rotman · January 26, 2024

I watched a few of your brother's repair and build videos In the past. Loved them! I would also gladly watch any video on whatever topic you choose to share with us. In one word: Yay!

N
Neil Stevens (PresJPolk) · January 26, 2024

I would enjoy every video you can see fit to make about your new business venture. The more repair videos the better. The more arcade history videos the better. The more remodeling videos the better.

G
George F Rozansky · January 26, 2024

While there are some people that follow because of the type of content you do, there are some that do for the personality(your presentation or opinion, etc.) and will watch whatever adventure you are on today, or tune out when it isn't something they want to see. I would say arcades are still in the relatively same orbit. Musicians/bands face the same thing when they grow or expand.

J
Jay Versluis · January 26, 2024

Very nice! Yes please post those videos here, it's always nice to see this in my Patreon feed 💝

J
Joe Moorman · January 26, 2024

Whatever repairs you want to do I will happily watch! You said you'd limit these and focus on documentary videos but I like all the types of your videos anyway, so doing these instead is A-OK with me.

C
Connor · January 26, 2024

I would personally love to see more of this, repairing items is a topic I practically always find interesting.

A
Allen Christian · January 26, 2024

W
Wallace Marbach · January 26, 2024

I absolutely would love to see these. Seeing the guts and how things work is very interesting and I don't get tired of it. Even if the production value was lower than your usual stuff, I'd be happy with it.

c
cdoublejj · January 26, 2024

well this looks like it will be a nice watch. i like most all of the 8 bit guy videos i've seen so far and i've been watching since the macbook PPC guy

J
John Munoz · January 26, 2024

In the words of an ex-employee "if you don't don't it right, it won't take as long" Enjoyed getting to see old tech getting a new life.

N
Nathan Schramm · January 26, 2024

Yay! It's not your usual video subject but the moonbase series was quite enjoyable. A good way to still show restorations but with a fresh spin - you were concerned they had become stale. With the new arcade it makes a lot of sense.

C
Chad Armstrong · January 26, 2024

Loved it! A great little video, but very educational and interesting. I’d definitely like to see more videos like this. What do the original diffusers look like? Are they made of plastic so a 3D printed part is a good replacement?

A
Andries Basson · January 26, 2024

Yes, i like these videos !!

V
Vincent Deville-Duc · January 26, 2024
