Video: Tactics of the New Multi-Functional Recon Company (MBCT Ep. 2)
This new video covers what's currently been published on the U.S. Army's new Multi-Functional Reconnaissance Company (MFRC). It's basically the new brigade recon company/troop. I cover the organization of its 4 specialized sub-units down to the squad-level and present a tactical application of the MFRC during a brigade movement to contact on the map. I also briefly talk about what the MBCT's MFRC replaces from the old IBCT construct, historical context regarding the echelonment of recon and security units since WW2, and what this change will mean for the Infantry Battalions.

Great video but I am not confident that the Army is getting this right. Doctrinally, the Army has said they are moving toward preparing for large scale combat operations with a near peer adversary which includes moving back toward division centric operations. The current unit reorganizations seem to counter to that stated goal. The Army only truly has three full traditional light infantry divisions. The others only have two brigades, or less and are not full divisions in the traditional sense. In addition, the Army has gutted the heavy armor capability in the National Guard in favor of converting three heavy brigades to mobile brigades. While the new mobile brigade may be a good concept for quick deployment and mobility, I fear that the new mobile brigades are hollow and lack firepower and staying power. Don't get me wrong, I believe the integration of drones and other new technology into our units and getting things into the hands of soldiers in a more expedient manner essential but I believe we are going to end up with a bunch of infantry brigades which can be quickly deployed but can't do much when they get there.
Not horrible, I wonder if the Army is expecting that Effects Platoon to essentially be replacing the Mortars? Still seems like they could use those as well though, be interesting to see how this evolves (hope they’re getting, and listening to, some advice from Ukraine since they’re dealing with this in full scale…) Looking forward to seeing how the new Delta Co MPC is organized within the Battalions!
Given the political leadership is a bunch of "Reformers" and Cult of the Ranger worshipers... ... fat chance.
WOW awesome!
