New Pages for Cold War U.S. and British Manuals, TO&Es and Reference Data

I've been in a bit of a source cataloging mood recently. USAHEC's digitized collections have been down for months and I regret not downloading everything relevent I read on it. Plus, the old web 1.0 TO&E sites are dropping like flies. So I've created two new pages on my site:

U.S. Army & U.S. Marine Manuals & TO&Es (Cold War)

British Army Manuals and TO&Es (Cold War)

The U.S. page includes the following:

  1. 2 field manuals

  2. 8 Actual TO&Es (not summaries or digitizations)

  3. Links to 17 TO&E digitizations that were on warestablishment(dot)net but now only accessible via wayback machine (including one that isnt on wayback machine but I saved)

  4. 22 Force Structure Reference Data books or Staff Officers' Manuals that visualize or summarize TO&Es to great detail, generally including entire divisions and non-divisional units, from the 1950s to 1980s

  5. Link to the bits.de repository of U.S. Army field manuals

  6. 27 National Guard Adjutant General Reports (either in full or relevent excerpts) and a newspaper clipping covering 18 states and territories. These details Army (and sometimes Air) National Guard organization, mostly during the Pentomic reorganization but some during other periods too. Some of these get extremely detail, like every platoon and company in that national guard, its armory location, strengths, mobilization priority, and the names, role and addresses of each unit's officers (depending on the state, Illinois kind of sucks). For Pentomic reorgs, some states like California and Pennsylvania list which units were converted into what new unit. Where I only post an excerpt I link to a full version somewhere else. However, unfortunately with Hathi Trust most of the entries are only accessible to those in the US (which sucks for me because it's one of the reasons I need to keep paying for a VPN).

The British page include:

  1. 1960, 1980 Infantry Platoon Manuals

  2. 1967, 1976, 1984, 1988 Staff Officers Handbook chapters on organizations

  3. Links to digitized Cold War TO&Es from the defunct WarEstablishment(dot)Net

I have two manuals in the mail, one on French Infantry Platoons from 1986 and one on Australian Infantry Platoons from 1967. When I have time I want to scan them and those will be freely available.

Thanks, going to be very helpful in the future.

Thanks, really useful resources - especially the Cold War British SOHBs! I would be interested in resources/videos on echelon-above-corps signals units as well, though I realise that's a niche interest of mine.
