What are the chances the spy is Major La'ni. Maybe she did not escape the Dranglex, but was let go. They allowed her to take a small group of survivors to the Federation in return for spying for them.
I've been thinking the same lately. It would make sense for a writer to find a way to even the military might between both factions in order to make the ending of this conflict a little less predictable, so it's almost certain that the Dranglaex will earn another starcaster. Either La'ni is a spy that was let go in exchange for teaching the Prince how to use the starcaster AND spying for them, or she'll probably die in the following conflict and her starcaster will be lost.
Seems like they would be going to their doom, facing 2 starcasters, with zero available to them currently.
Did he refer to Cort's starcaster or to both starcasters? He said prize in singular but it seems logical he referred to both.
