Hypothetically, if I were major La'ni and I had witnessed or been told that the enemy starcaster beam came from the biggest (and unique) warship in the previous engagement, then it would be the first capital ship I targeted in this second engagement. I would make sure it didn't leave the system if at all possible. But I get the impression that's not what happened here and I bet there's a reason. So I'm curious: Do we happen to know why the big capital ship wasn't targeted first?

The federation army wasn't in a better state if they would successfully execute the plan to remove the starcaster from Cort's hand. And Lani used her trust to betray Cort to do it. So she might feel bad for the results, but she was a significant part of the reason for the failure.

La'Ni may or may not have some hard feelings that we left her to fight that battle alone
