I wonder what wins between the healing ability of the starcaster and mimion muck.

I feel like it's a plot "reset" if Cort gets off the ship. I know that things are ugly with the federation, but I really wanted Cort to have some time as "crooked officer" vs "crooked officers." Welp, let's see where this goes. My money is that Cort's SC blocks the shot and they escape with their hostage, who will eventually succumb to Stockholm's syndrome and joins their party. But, I keep reading because the story often takes an unexpected turn at times.

What will happen if they jump into hyperspace? They might wander into hyperspace through the suggested hole. Maybe even La'ni can't survive in the hyperspace, who knows...

Let's just remember that Captain Eecko told Lance Major La'ni that he was going to put Cort under arrest for not enlisting. It might be that she didn't know until then what actually was going to happen to him.

Simple solution if Cort is fast enough. You fire forward, I fire down. You break mine I break yours. Even if just a bluff might buy them time to get off the ship. But I agree this plot line needs to conclude and do its own “jump” soon, getting a feeling of been here before, but I trust the path!

Hmm. I'm sure it's a REALLY great idea to jump into a conflict with a giant hole blown in the side of your ship. There's been no evidence so far that starcaster wearers can limit just how far that beam travels, even for her.

There's space behind the ship, no holes other then the hangar energy shield maybe :)

It would be nice if Cort suddenly, out of panic, generates a shield with the Starcaster instead of just blast things...and naturally have NO idea how he did it when asked later.

really really dont like where this has gone...

What would have been a “full paragon” anyway? Being a good soldier and following every Federation order? As far as stories go, this one is being very interesting exactly for the levels of greyness it shows.

If he did become 'a good soldier' then we would've at least advanced the plot to going to war and learning new ways to use the starcaster. Instead we've gotten another detour that shows (again) that the federation aren't the good guys and should not be trusted, a point already driven home enough times.

I know SC is just playing out like an RPG campaign, where each character and faction has their own agendas and motivations and the story is just showing how everything would naturally play out... but it seems we've reached a point where the reader's choices have brought us to a really sour side-quest that will get a lot worse before it gets better, and I would argue it's making for a worse story than if Cort had gone full on Paragon or full Renegade from the start. Maybe we should limit the amount of future options to what would develop into interesting story plots only. Unlike a video game, we don't get to replay SC and make different choices, so getting stuck in the "murky middle" plot-line is just making the story more complicated and less interesting overall.

Wait, in the last panel the captain said he wants the Starcaster removed from the ship, why is she trying to enforce it staying on the ship?

M

Captain's orders from higher up on page 16.09 are to put the inoperative Starcaster (remember, they think it's already been removed from Cort) onto a transport shuttle and remove it from their ship before it enters conflict with the enemy. That's what he meant by "We need that Starcaster removed from the ship." It's just kind of a funny coincidence that the person the Starcaster is still attached to is trying to remove it from the ship in a different way.

We went the predictable route - looks like the only way out is to use the Avisar's life to stop her from blasting our ship...
