This looks like a way to steer the story away from the vote to have Cort join the federation and onto the "go it alone" path he probably had planned all along. I'm not mad or anything. If anything, I applaud the storycraft.
You voted to go with the Federation/join the Federation, and then in every subsequent vote, you voted for Cort to NOT fall in line with the giant space military regime's demands. I'm not sure why you'd be surprised they're not going to put up with it.
This is bad. Very, very bad. This was what I feared when "Refuse" won the vote. I didn't expect it to happen this fast though. Right now, this situation has become unsalvageable. The best possible sequence of events, IMNSHO, would be as follows: 1. Nyrah gets to Cort before the Federation amputates the Starcaster. 2. Nyrah and Cort make it to the docking bay. 3. Speck has delayed the grunts enough that the Aphelion is still there. 4. Nyrah, Cort, and Speck make it into the Aphelion with as little fanfare as possible and high tail it out of there. 5. Speck, being a good mercenary, used what time they were on the Federation vessel to get the Aphelion fixed and to maybe clean out the Federation of some equipment and restock the Aphelion's hold.
Remind me again, which side was the evil empire prepared to use any means necessary to assert its dominance?
The Federation is merely corrupt. The Dranglaex are genocidal/xenocidal. Life is rarely a battle between good and evil. It usually is a battle between various shades of gray or between gray and evil.

Well. If this is what they do to Cort, having Nyrah look for Cort or Quel instead of confronting the soldiers herself was definitely the right call. Guess she'd better find Quel though, doesn't look like Cort can help.
Sounds like Quel can't do much either. Triumvirate is sidestepping protocols and using whatever means necessary. "Either you give us what we want, or we declare it illegal and take you into custody for having it in the first place"
