Vote for Issue 15, Page 02

Upon returning to the docking bay where the Aphelion is parked, Nyrah sees Speck being once again instructed to depart, this time by a group of armed Federation soldiers. What does she do?

(I wanted these pages and vote up earlier than this, but a really bad burn to my drawing hand has slowed me down a bit this month. I need this vote result in order to write/draw the remaining two pages for this month, so due to that this vote will only be open for a few days.)

Maybe if we signed the formality "you're a member of the federation army" paper, she could find cort, and with his staff major designation could override them and give them orders not to get speck and nyrah off the ship, but... well we burned that bridge.

Formality? A paper that's shoved under his nose while he's standing in a corridor, by a guy accompanied by armed troops and demanding he signs immediately without reading? Chances for it being a "formality" paper seem pretty low to me...

Get better soon Tim

First, I hope your hand gets better soon, Tim. Burns are never fun. Second, the best option is finding Quel or Cort. Never argue with low level authorities that are 'just following orders'. Finding Quel might get this situation cooled down and more reasonable no matter what the outcome. Finding Cort would still make this a rough situation, but at least he has something the Federation still wants. Therefore, the Federation might listen to him or, at the very least, Cort being informed might make it easier to get him off the ship in a worse case scenario because he might otherwise be abandoned with no ride off (not my preferred choice but we'll burn that bridge if we come to it).

Get well soon Tim!!!

Find Quel or Cort makes the most sense. Also Speck might be able to delay the depart by telling them to find Nyrah, because he needs her for take off and the Feds don't want tourists on their vessels anyways.

She's going to find Cort and force him to make a decision. This will be her "I told you so" moment that joining the ranks was not going to help them. It also allows some time since they can't force the ship off without its occupants. This is going to lead to the soldiers confronting Cort with Nyrah. Cort will react with his gut (as usual), so this is going to get gloriously complicated and messy!

She should get Quel and Cort, but it's not going to work. It's a battleship, and she's not going to be back in time, assuming they even let her in the Starcaster section.

Find Quel, I can see the other option going south very fast, though considering we refused to sign the papers, I don’t see any of this going “well”.

Yeah, first instinct was to get in there, ask what's up, and stand by my friend. But Nyrah was a soldier, so she knows that arguing with grunts is a waste of time. Find the people who make the decisions, then have them change their minds, or enforce the ones that help your situation.

Don't argue with the soldier, argue with the commanding officer. Soldier is following orders and won't give a shit unless command tells them to.

Confronting the soldiers might get her arrested, without being able to notify Cort, just like she was in the Federation station. No point of going this path again I think.

Those soldiers have their orders. Explaining to them why their orders are wrong won’t change anything - and Speck is likely doing that anyway. Worst case- she will have to leave with Speck right away. Best case is to find Cort or Quel…

Agreed. I waffled for a while but came to the conclusion. Arguing with a soldier instructed to do something is not going to override their orders. Especially if there is nothing inherently criminal or wrong with their orders.
