[Research] On undressing & genders!

Hey friends!

I’m back with some questions for you! It’s time to do research!

This is a public poll so I’m interested in gauging the interest of people over this matter, as this is something important for the next project.

The topic I want to research today is the gender of enemies!

Currently in Solas City Heroes you can select the gender of your enemies, either only allowing male or female enemies, or allowing both options. Also no Solas City Heroes all bosses are genderless (with the exception of Mastermind who is male as a default) they are written as not being male or female, and instead being whatever the player set up.

For the next project(s) I wanna improve the writing on the games, so this is an important task to research. So here are some options for you friends to vote on!

Keep the selection for enemy spawns: This is the SCH mode, you select to spawn either male/female or both enemies.

Spawn enemies of both genders: Enemies are spawned with their genders set up, however only enemies of the selected gender in the settings will interact sexually with the player

These two are for most non-boss enemies, what do you think about bosses?

Keep making most bosses genderless: Bosses gender will always be the selected by the player. As it is on SCH. This makes writing harder, because I have to use several tricks to avoid as much as possible any possible gendered interaction on the dialogue (such as using he or she pronouns, and using they as a pronoun makes everything very hard to read, at least for me - a non native english speaker-)

Make bosses have their own set gender: Boss characters for the story will have their gender set up, however only those matching the player settings will interact sexually with the player. This is better for writing, but could cause some players to never be able to interact sexually with certain characters.

Make bosses have their gender only for story: Boss characters will have their own gender for story purposes, but for gameplay purposes they will be genderswapped to whatever the player setting is. This could be a median point between the two previous ideas, but it could lead to a break of immersion at some points…

With the gender stuff out of the way, I have been wondering lately about the utility of undressing mechanics in games. As it has been a topic of discussion over the years. Which of these options sound better for you?

Keep dressing/undressing as a “status”: Similar to how it is currently on Solas City Heroes, where the dressed status is only used to see if the player can be targeted with sexual interactions or not.

Have a dressing gameplay elements: Instead of just getting undressed once and that’s all, add the possibility to completely redress (instead of just visually) and have a system to interact while enemies try to undress the player (like a quicktime event, or having a time to escape before it happens)

Just ignore dressing: Just completely remove the part of being dressed or undressed as a gameplay element, and only make it become a visual element.

And that’s all for today, friends!

As always, I'm open to read your ideas, feedback and suggestions, so if you have a cool idea regarding either the gender or undressing systems, feel free to write it down here or on discord!

Have a great week!

I've been testing the 0.7.1 update for about 10days now and you can't unlock "facesit II, Laying Missionary V, and Prone Doggystyle V". there was also a bug where you'd shop for upgrades that doesn't show. but if you press "buy item" it'll buy that hidden upgrade. I've done Area 5 - Stage 1 more than 20 times by now.. not sure if it's intended or not

As others have said, customization is your strong suit . Whatever you do don't stray from it!

Quicktime events are fine as long as the player can choose to remove them completely or make them easier/harder. Accessibility goes far beyond just things like Colorblind Modes or Font Options. As someone who dislikes Male interactions in HGames and only plays ladies/Futas where applicable (Not counting Pure Love Styled Games), having control over what I see in an HGame matters a great deal to me. It's all part of Accessibility and even though it can mean a lot more work for any Dev I do think the extra work is worth it in the long run. The more accessible the game is the more people that may end up engaging with it over time. Accessibility is perhaps even more valuable in HGame than Non-HGames. Still, I <3 your games overall. You generally go above and beyond with allowing players to customize their experiences.

By any means, no quicktime events....

as a minor thought. i wouldn't mind genderless regular mob baddies unless storyline writes that the particular set of baddies are written in as a needed gender like example an all female mercenary group.

MrZ, I'd also suggest (if appropriate for your future project, and also as an idea for SCH) having buffs/debuffs associated with gender preference. Maybe the player is submissive with same sex, but dominant with opposite sex; a player who identifies lesbian might have arousal rise faster with a female opponent (or just slower with a male opponent; players identifiying hetero might get that buff with opposite sex, etc.

While I voted to keep making bosses genderless one other possibility that I would be in favor of, would be to write two sets of dialogue, one male and one female, and use a flag to mark which one should be played based on the bosses gender. It would add a bit more time to the writing, and require a bit more programing effort, but with my limited programing knowledge it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult.

building on this you could do what the Trials in Tainted Space/Corruption of Champions Devs do and anywhere there would be a difference in a characters gender you could have flags that auto change the text instead rewriting the whole script twice

For spawning Enemies: have a slider so you can go full male or female OR any ratio you'd like to see.

The problem with dressing as a gameplay element is there is virtually no skill scaling in the game right now. If dressing gameplay continues this tradition, your character will become either impossible to undress (unless you go afk or willingly give in, breaking immersion), or impossible to defend, based on whether you can button mash fast enough to win the minigame. Until/unless this gameplay changes --which may not even be appropriate considering the point of the game)-- it's better to keep dressing as a status.

This research is not for Solas City Heroes, it's for future project(s)!

i'm all for the dressing as a gameplay element, it adds to the humiliation aspect to me
