SteamHaven Files - Heatwave / Frostline
Steamhaven — Synopsis So Far
The world
Steamhaven is a metropolis where superheroes are not vigilantes. They are a military branch: trained, posted, medically managed, housed in a sealed apartment complex guarded by an advanced AI. Inside that building they may live as themselves. Outside it they are assets.
The country has changed in their lifetime. For years LGBT service members lived under a Don’t-Ask climate. That broke after Tyler, a lion with hidden super-strength, stood against police who tried to smash an underground queer community. He became the face of resistance. Law followed; capital followed the law. Pride became legal, then marketable. Tyler retired to a lake house with Senator Rowan Vale, a shrewd calico. Superhero culture in the complex is now openly queer in places: civil public intimacy, even acknowledged D/s pairings. The old posted legends did not get a manual for how to feel about that.
The pair
Curtis Hale / Frostline is an ice tiger: gold fur, black stripes, gold eyes, short brown hair. Late forties. Raised in a rich, conservative house that taught silence and posture. Powers surfaced in private school; he was removed to an academy, then the program. Patient, precise, rarely visibly angry — except where Jamie is concerned. His body reads dominant; his instinct with Jamie is involuntary submission: a shudder, a dropped shoulder, throat offered without a decision. He has a black mark for freezing facilities full of people who tortured Jamie.
Jamie Brennan / Heatwave is a fire panther: black coat, green eyes, rosettes that flare red with emotion or power. Two years younger. Raised poor and rural; fire burned fields; family called it devil and temper; a school brawl ended in disownment. A recruiter pulled him off the road. Hot, rough on anyone who harms the vulnerable, historically on probation. If Curtis is bleeding, composure fails. He cooks with his palms. His quiet command-voice can drop both Curtis and, later, Daniel.
They were paired in their early twenties and became Steamhaven’s rising steam-and-iron act: ice floors, fire boxes, thermal shock. Publicly they are a matched set. Privately they sleep in two beds, one room, naked and unspeaking in the dawn, shower separately, keep three feet in kitchens, lifts, and trucks. They will bleed for each other without a request. They will not spend the word. The era that trained them still lives in their mouths even after the statutes changed.
Daniel Voss, Tyler’s nephew, is a black lion with a rainbow mane and silver eyes. Psychic, not a field hero. Building coordinator. He hears the gap, needles it with schedules and teasing, soothes minds without rewriting them, and has already plotted a week of “mistakes” to chip their walls. He rooms them together on purpose.
Robbie Voss / MindBender is Daniel’s twin, older-brother-by-twenty-minutes in Daniel’s guilt if not in kindness. Silver mane. Robotics. Capture, not kill. Two years of private probes on the pair. Dark worship: he wants Frostline and Heatwave as kept inventory, and he wants Daniel close enough to call that “family.”
