which is the preferred method to watch these videos?

The difference is with the blurred version, I have to upload through YouTube and then I post the unlisted YouTube link on Patreon. (watchalong style)

Patreon just made it so I can upload videos directly to Patreon which allows me to use the full movie (at least for now)

Was really looking forward to She-Hulk. Bummer.

Why bummer? It's still friday.

I do know some reactors post a non blurred version using vimeo. You can also make it password protected too if the patron upload doesn't work. I will agree with others, sync time can be frustrating at times. Though generally not a big deal. So honestly, which ever would be easier for you! I'm sure it takes time to blur stuff out, but we also don't want to risk getting you in trouble!

Logan Kerlee · July 15, 2023

That's my main concern, as well! That's why I voted for the first option.

Cant wait for that She-Hulk baby! The Wolverine tomorrow as well. damn what a way to finish the weekdays

Dave Lemmens · July 13, 2023

Defenitely stick to the blurred version. Not only is it better for copyright issues (production companies also create patreon accounts to check this, I know of a couple reactors who've gotten into trouble this way). Also, movies don't always line up 100%. If I'm watching a slightly different version, the framerate or bitrate or whatever could be off, causing my version to go out of sync with your version (I'd still want my own version to watch if it's small movie, big you). When this happens with the blurred version, that's no big deal. I just hit pause for half a second a couple times a movie when I notice it's off, and done. But if there is constant audio that is slowly and slowly getting more out of sync that would be very annoying.

eba chebal · July 13, 2023

with the youtube version of the reactions you could PiP and it was really convenient. Rather play it safe IMO

C
Chris Jones · July 13, 2023

I’d say for copyright, stick to blurred out with a time stamp. Watching the full length Harry Potter Reunion was fun with the non blurred footage, means I can pause whenever without worrying too much about syncing my own copy, but yeah - don’t want you to run the risk of the powers that be coming after you for copyright! I’ll still watch either way, dude.

Kenneth Tronier Tideman · July 13, 2023

I have seen several patreons who watched the movie directly with the movie being in a little screeen and the reactor on a big screen no blur and they have never been copyright attacked or anything, the watch along is horrible, i wasnt sure what you meant so i subbed to find out but i am gonna unsub again cause having to watch the movie on my own screen or TV while listening to your reaction will always feel off sync and weird, video in the reaction already is the way to go with this.

J
Josh Poulton · July 13, 2023

I don't have time to watch a full watch a long that's why I like the quick 30 minutes. I skip over to the shock and aww

S
SaniTheSerbianMuslim · July 13, 2023

When reading you might risk copyright strikes and your account might be taken down. I would say don't risk it and blur the video. Yea some want this, some want that. But if you wanna make a living out of this you should do something that doesn't ruin your way of income and joy.

K
Kev Martin · July 13, 2023

I'd echo what a lot of others have mentioned - the powers that be will come after you if you show the whole movie breaching copyright (being a 'gated' space is irrelevant - by putting the movie/show online you're publishing it, and that's the way it will be seen by the vested interests). I've seen too many sad stories of Youtube channel owners losing years of work by having their channels terminated due to DMCA claims from copyright owners. And Google don't really negotiate on it as far as I can tell. It might seem convenient and 'easy for everyone', but its clearly playing with fire. And another aspect to it is that Patreon have been known to approach account holders who are chewing up too much bandwidth etc and insist you upgrade to the Corporate level (or whatever its called) which apparently costs $10,000 a month or some such amount. I have no idea how much bandwidth you have to use to trigger that, but a lot of people streaming full length movies will add up fast.

AdrianF · July 13, 2023

Also, if you go the Patreon only route and a subscriber wants to watch the movie/show on a big screen alongside regardless it's impossible to perfectly sync the audios so they end up with phased audio which is not pleasant to listen to. I get (from reading replies here, and in general) that some people don't seem to want to have to own the stuff you're reacting to, but it's good the way you're doing it now.

A
AdrianF · July 13, 2023

Personally, I prefer to watch the 'real' movie on the best setup I can whilst listening to reaction videos. As you've been doing them is best I think - and safest. But I'm a boomer that doesn't understand how people can watch stuff on tiny screens.

P
Peter Moe · July 13, 2023

Would it help you stop desyncing in the middle? 😒

A
AdrianF · July 13, 2023

On which videos are you having the problem? They're all perfectly synced for me (you have to ignore the timer on some, granted).

C
Christina · July 13, 2023

Don’t risk it. Do blurred picture

T
Tom Ekstrand · July 13, 2023

I say watch along because with the movie in the video, higher chance it'll be taken down

R
Robert Miller · July 13, 2023

Either works for me. However you run the risk of copyright issues doing full un-edited version on here if someone reports you.

K
Kev Martin · July 13, 2023

I don't think it even takes someone reporting you. The big companies probably have people paid to hunt down copyright offenders. Not to mention bots.

D
Dustee Lodholtz · July 13, 2023

some use OneHub or Vimeo for full movie no sync reactions

T
Tymm Reacts · July 13, 2023

To be quite honest, I do like having the little movie clear and with sound. A couple of my other creator heroes do the full movie or tv show and sometimes even pause it when they feel like talking a bit. That's a lot of fun to watch as well. Besides, when I have interrupt for any reason, I have to try to sync up again.

S
SaniTheSerbianMuslim · July 12, 2023

I rather have big movie small alex. Or otherwise just blurred movie no sound and big alex.

d
dabbingcannasseur · July 12, 2023

Majority of the people I've wound up actually subbing to on here put the video without a blur in. It's certainly easier to just pull up 1 video to watch vs having to sync up 2 screens *made harder by the fact that the timer in your videos isn't properly synced up half the time*

S
Stropheum · July 12, 2023

don't do it alex. i know it's "easier" and the transformative content argument is one that could hold up in court, but DMCA being what it is, even a paywalled patreon isn't gonna keep you safe. i've seen people lose channels over it

D
DevilsQueen · July 12, 2023

What most reactors do (That I watch) makes a link to another platform like dropox, google drive and OneHub) I assume you can use those platforms to minimize the risk of having everything eresed.

L
Logan Kerlee · July 12, 2023

I'd honestly prefer it to have the video onscreen unblurred and muted. I managed to sync the video earlier today with no issue (somehow) that it took a good few minutes until I realized that audio was playing on the watchalong at all of the Harry Potter video. If like, the audio could be up for the first five minutes or something to achieve perfect sync then it went silent - that'd be ideal! Otherwise, I'm generally a second off or so and it gets annoying. Not a huge deal either way, though! Love your uploads. :)

R
Ruby · July 12, 2023

I do know of another reactor here on Patreon, who got in trouble with including the full movie. He eventually got in trouble and all his stuff was erased. Seems like a big risk

L
Liam Mcfarlane · July 12, 2023

Definitely video included, sometimes with watch-alongs if you’re watching the video on different sites (eg Netflix in the US but Amazon Prime here in the U.K.) no matter how hard I try the video always ends up out of sync with yours

B
Bryan Forquer · July 12, 2023

I hate the watch along versions, i watch all the reactions on my phone. So i don't have another version to sync up with.

J
Jon · July 12, 2023

I prefer option 1. I pop out your reaction (picture in picture), and watch the actual movie full screen. To be clear, the 2nd option is definitely easier, but could cause issues down the line as others have mentioned re: copyright holders.

J
Josh · July 12, 2023

Alex if you post the full movie on Patreon the copyright holders will eventually find out and you’re gonna get hit hard. Please don’t do that!!!

D
Dustee Lodholtz · July 12, 2023

Alot of the reactors I watch do the 2nd option, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for doing so on Patreon, YouTube I'm sure, but not Patreon. It's a lot easier to watch along, especially if we don't have access to the movie with subscriptions or no money to rent or buy, and if we're just watching on our phone or tablet with no way to watch the movie on another source, it is so much more convenient to just watch all on one screen

C
Chris · July 12, 2023

People are gonna vote for the 2nd one because its convenient but the 1st is the logical one. Avoid copyright and the small screen would be pretty annoying compared to being able to view this film however you’d like.

J
Julia · July 12, 2023

Please don’t change your viewing style :/ mostly bc of copyright issues but it can be really frustrating to watch the movie in such a tiny box and there’s often volume issues with the reactors voice vs movie volume

A
Alex Hefner · July 15, 2023

you got it

J
Jessica Houser · July 12, 2023

The 2nd option, definitely. It seems easier to gage your reaction to specific moments when they're side by side. I've seen 95% of what you are reacting to and I like to compare your real responses to how I reacted upon my initial viewing. I will watch it either way but it's simplified on one screen.

B
Brian Leonard · July 12, 2023

I refuse to support anyone that shows the entire show or movie.

J
Jessica Meigs · July 12, 2023

While I'd love the second option, I voted for the first, because I'm really worried that the second option would potentially get you in trouble re: copyright and IP issues.

t
treasure.evolution · July 12, 2023

While I love the idea of an all in one video, I follow a creator that did that and they ran into some issues so while option 1 can definitely feel like a hassle because of having to use two devices, I also think it's the safest.

M
Megan the Librarian · July 12, 2023

The 2nd option is definitely better, but I assumed the reason you weren't doing that was because they can come after you for copyright issues.

M
Mike W · July 12, 2023

Agree with Garee Morris… I don’t want to have to use multiple devices to watch your reactions… I would like to see the YouTube style reaction, just full length… if you did that, I would also upgrade my tier.

P
Pixel Tweeker · July 12, 2023

On one hand, I don’t always have access to a movie with my subscriptions, so I’d love to have the movie in-frame. On the other hand, that could get you in trouble precisely because there are people who haven’t paid for access to the movie.

A
Alex Hefner · July 15, 2023

this is a good point

R
Ranger Maverick · July 12, 2023

I prefer to synch up a full screen version of the movie with your reaction/blurred/timestamp video on another screen. Having a reaction video with sound from the movie would make that almost impossible, I would have to mute the sound on my copy of the movie and try to synch up your audio perfectly with my movie. I would honestly not enjoy watching along with movie reactions if I have to watch the video in a small inset frame.

J
Justin Moore · July 12, 2023

I like to watch alongs because I get to see your reaction to everything. Not just the "good moments".

A
Alex Hefner · July 15, 2023

well watch a long in the sense you have to have your own copy of the movie. it will be the full length of the movie we're watching for both options. only difference is one has the movie in it and the other doesn't

R
Rice · July 12, 2023

Watch a long is helpful because then I can have the movie window be as big as I want (small box would annoy me probably😭)

G
Garrie Morris · July 12, 2023

I only subscribe to the dollar tier to vote because of the watch along style. I currently wait for YouTube to watch the reactions. If you do Pateron in the same style as YouTube with the video/audio of the movie/show I personally would upgrade my tier.

R
Retro Tom · July 12, 2023

I'm fine with option 1 as long as the time code & blurred video are accurate for the reaction so we can sync up

l
liamj987 · July 12, 2023

surely you aren't allowed to do the second option?

D
Death Lego · July 12, 2023

Yeah, what Amy said.

J
Joshie-Creature · July 12, 2023

When something causes us to de-sync with your vid or vice versa, matching the visual (even blurred) helps us reset the sync mid-movie.

A
Amy Silknitter · July 12, 2023

Whichever one doesn’t get you in trouble.
