The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies EXTENDED EDITION (UNEDITED)
Hey guys!
Thank you for your patience! This movie was truly incredible! Besides some of the CGI and Legolas defying gravity lol.
But, ffs. What an insanely wholesome movie! Served so many purposes. Put Sauron back in Mordor, gave Bilbo the ring, sent Legolas to find Aragorn, and had Gandalf knocking at Bilbo's door.
This series totally exceeded expectations! I've been thinking. I feel like I understand why I love everything so much. Because there are so many of you guys that talk shit about the movies 😂😂😂😂 Some of you are some legit trolls. It's amazing. But I've found that that is exactly what lowers my expectations.
Either way, I'm so honored to have watched these movies with you guys! Thank you all for being my movie buddies! <3
Love you all,
Alex

Is there gravity? You have to realize Legolas is Elven and extremely light. As seen in Lotr when he walks on the snow when the rest off the fellowship is buried under it.
Extended edition is Rated R bc of that war chariot scene and all the blood haha
You should watch the Rings of power show since you don’t know the source material, and it is a fun show with some action. Given it’s not super lore accurate, it’s a fun watch nonetheless the less
Describing Gandalf like an Allstate insurance commercial..."are you in good hands"🤣
FYI they have never smoked "weed" in Lord of the Rings. The Longbottom Leaf is a variety of pipe-weed first cultivated by the hobbit Tobold Hornblower (why Longbottom leaf is nicknamed "Old Toby") in the Southfarthing village of Longbottom around the year 2670 of the Third Age. He likely acquired the original plant from travelers passing through Bree, breeding it into the most famous smoke in the Shire. Pipe-weed is explicitly described by J.R.R. Tolkien as a variety of tobacco. In the prologue to The Lord of the Rings, he notes that it's likely a strain of the plant Nicotiana.
I am convinced that you are an evil individual who delights in torturing all of the world who find your channel. You have zero ability to keep yourself from ruining the greatest dialogue scenes in nearly every great movie. You're like Brenda in the movie theater of the first Scary Movie lol
Apparently you don't remember The Lord of the Rings movies, because Legolas did stuff like that in those movies as well, it has to do with his massive skill, on top of him being an elf. They are extraordinarily light on their feet. Remember when everybody else was shoulder deep in the snow on the mountain after Saruman caused the avalanche in the Fellowship of the Ring... Legolas was walking as if he weighed nothing on top of that snow. You talk about the cheesiness, did you forget the flintstones moment with the oliphant. He did stuff like that all the time. It wasn't different in this movie. Except for 1 thing, they used more CGI for the effects, that's really it.
The members of the council, especially Maiar wizards such as Gandalf, were prohibited by Eru ( the God of the universe ) from using the full extent of their powers. That's why, for example, Gandalf couldn't use black speech. He was sent there to do good. If they were able to, they would honestly solo entire armies.
Balin that older dwarf including 2 other from Thorin’s company die by the events of Fellowship of the Ring. The fellowship actually found Balin’s tomb (where Pippin gave away their position by knocking a skeleton down a well to orcs) including other company’s member Ori’s skeleton who wrote their final moments which Gandalf read out loud.
People will defend these movies with their life for some reason, they just can’t stand seeing hate towards something they like. I personally think these movies are a fun watch and I’ve seen the multiple times now (At least 5 times each at this point). However, I do think they are poorly written, way too long, and disrespectful to the Lord of the Rings. They should have cut so much BS and made them two films, and they just made so many choices that were so bad. I’m not blaming Jackson all that much because he had to make movies out of the mess he was given, but these movies fell flat. You can like them if you want, but people need to learn how to take criticism and stop getting so upset over it
One of the dumbest examples is in the second movie with Bilbo and SMAUG. The dragon is show as very smart with very keen sense, to the point he can smell bilbos exact location while he is invisible and can even smell the dwarves on him. But then 10 minutes later he’s reduced to a bumbling idiot creature that cants smell a pack of dwarves 20 feet below him.
Give a shot to Rings of Power please
The gems that Thranduil is there to claim were his wife’s which (in short) is part of the reason why he wants them back so much
@Alex Re: Legolas’ casual relationship with gravity: it’s heavily implied in the films (and in the books if I remember correctly) that his magical gifts are combat related.
Rings of Power is a fantastic show! I love this world and just want more of it tbh. and me and my kids really enjoy Rings of Power. Don’t skip it
Yeah, I do like the Hobbit Trilogy, although not as much as the original trilogy. You can tell from this that even if they don't follow the lore fully and do change things up, they still respect the source material and the Author. Which is why I can't truly be mad even if I disagree or are confused with many of the changes made. For example, Azog the Defiler shouldn't be here, instead he was killed much earlier by Dain Ironfoot( The Dwarf with the scottish accent that showed up). The main bad orc of this trilogy is supposed to be Azog's son Bolg, who is in here; he's the orc with the metal plates coming out of his skin and head. Not only that, but Bolg is the one supposed to kill Thorin, and then Beorn avenges Thorin by killing Bolg. In fact, Beorn is supposed to have a much bigger role, such as joining the party. I can somewhat understand what they were going for with Azog, making it more personal for Thorin, but it does open up a few plot holes. There are others, but to me that was some of the biggest most important changes. Another thing is I don't like how they treat the Great Eagles in the first six movies, really. They are relegated to just big birds that swoop in to save the day. In lore, they are very wise and strong, and can also talk, just like the dragons. There is even the Lord of the Eagles, who is supposed to be a major leader and commander during this battle but isn't even mentioned. Another change they made was that Beorn was stated to be the last of his kind in these movies, but that's not true. In fact, after this battle, he even gathers his folk and leads them, becoming the chieftain of the Beornings, which was named after him. Outside the changes and whatnot, the biggest issue I have with this movie, which isn't shown as much in the other two, is how the main cast are practically marvel superheroes. In the lore, the characters are nowhere near as overpowered as they are shown in the movies, where it shows each of them killing like hundreds of orcs each without so much of a scratch. They pretty much have many of these characters fighting on the same level as Sauron himself lol. Still, overall I enjoyed the movies and always respected them since they respected the source material and Author, unlike a certain RIngs of Power show which is straight up disrespectful.
Just say NO to rings of powerCrap.
The thing with characters like Galadriel, Gandalf, Saruman or Sauron, is that they are forces of the universe with mortal form, that's why when in Lord of the rings Gandalf dies, he returns as Gandalf the white.
A fun little fact about this movie is that Orlando Bloom’s mom was an extra in it! She’s one of the two older ladies at the beginning of the movie. 😂
Alex never once noticed the axe in the one dwarves head and that he couldnt speak. its hilarious. LMAO
People hate on the show. I enjoy it. I love getting more world building and learning about Middle Earth and everyone who lives in it
Rings of Power is pretty much just a high budget fanfic. It's one of those shows where if you're ignorant to most lotr stuff it can be fun. Otherwise it just spits in your face left and right.
All the acrobatic defying gravity stuff is all done by elves which is in their skill set. They are incredibly light footed which I’ve always thought made them “light as a feather” allowing for incredible feats like climbing the arrows in the leg of an oliphaunt etc.
Since Alex has loved all 6 of the movies so much, he should be VERY cautious about choosing to watch Rings of Power. They destroy/violate so much of Tolkien’s writings/discussions/letters with some of the most ridiculous changes, new characters, etc. (The treatment of Galadriel’s character alone is rage inducing.) The whole thing borderlines on Tolkien sacrilege. The show also heavily copies Jackson’s designs, shots, costumes, monsters, etc. (and does it poorly, looking cheap despite the huge budget) Yes, I am a Tolkien nerd and watched the first two seasons of Rings of Power with hope. If I knew nothing about LOTR and had never watched the movies, it might have been entertaining. If you want to watch ROP then watch it by removing everything you saw and learned from the LOTR movies. Another commenter called it more like fan fiction, which is a good description. I fully acknowledge I will be ripped apart here, but it’s just my opinion. As a lifelong Tolkien reader and lover of the world he built beyond the original three books, I can’t help but detest ROP. I highly recommend the YT channel Nerd of the Rings. It’s the only one recognized and supported by the Tolkien estate, as well as Jackson and his team. He has excellent reviews of the series and how much is wrong and what is right. Side note- The Nerd of the Rings YT channel has amazing videos on the books, movies, and everything Tolkien. If you want to know more about the world accurately, it is a great resource.
I like to think that the reason the color saturation is so different between the hobbit and lotr because the hobbit is bilbo telling his story and he looks back on his adventures fondly. We know from the end of LOTR that Frodo was telling his story and that he was not doing well.
There is another movie…War Of The Rohirrim. It’s animated.
lol even ice thats 4-5 inches think is near impossible to break. 8+ inches can have vehicles driving on it. idk how thick that ice was but I HIGHLY doubt it was less than like 6+ inches. obviously its a fantasy movie but I mean come on, shit like that MASSIVELY takes away from the integrity of the movie. Suspension of disbelief is one thing but that is just way way WAY too far gone. even if there was no water under that ice and you had your full strength, you'd need a fucking elephant to break through that shit. with water slowing you down, and NOTHING to propel off of. yeah GTFO youre telling me the writers room had nothing, NOTHING else they could think of??? maybe something that happened 5-10 min earlier when they were fighting in a spot of the frozen lake that was now broken apart or melted from fire or something. (spoiler warning): ok my bad for going on a huge rant about this lol, but Thorin's death is a pretty big motherfucking deal. I love the movie overall, but come the fuck on now, that is just beyond ridiculous; as an ending to the movie they HAD to do better than that — should've redirected Azog's stab to his shoulder or something and died some other way, a way in which not only he saves his people, but provides them something immortalized in the grace and honour of Thorin the Worthy. ill chalk it up to the cockblock of the producers but ugh man it grinds my gears more than Peter and that Chicken mofo
“Who the hell are those women?”😂😂😂
I am really looking forward to the new Lord of the Rings : the hunt for Gollum. Getting to see the full backstory is going to be amazing.
If the lord of the rings was made today i think we would be worse of. Most of it looks so good because so much of it was practical work with some cgi by weta which was the best of its time. But the hobbit might be better off but ofcourse its all speculation. i want to know if the hobbit was made in the same time as the lord of the rings would it look better or worse maybe less action i dont know its an instersting thought though
Can't believe the journey is kinda over now. After waiting for the reaction to these movies 2 years ago! when I joined the Patreon :D and even before that wondering, if he had reacted to the movies here already. I think it was worth the wait. I like that Alex was paying more attention with these movies and actually going back if he missed something, it should definitely happen more with other reactions :D thank you for the weekly entertainment.
You wanna react to this movies music video? The Last Goodbye by Billy Boyd . He played Pippin. Also Rings Of Power is fun to watch!
2:20:24 Why did you look at me after saying that D: ?
And yes, after thinking about it, you probably should have watched the Hobbit movies first, I think it would have set it up perfectly!
LETS GOOO
~This is a sham i tell you! Unedited video with alex editing out his bathroom trips. Poppycock! On a serious note though, Is it just me or does Thorin look like Gowron from Star Trek?
Having met the man I would agree or at least a younger brother.
I have been enjoying the tv show and look forward to the next film coming out evenutally
Alex, sometime in the future, you should check out the animated versions of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit but watch the Hobbit first!
You definitely should watch Rings of Power. It has some good highs, especially season 2
Legolas defied gravity in the lotr as well its just what elves do
He looked so scared of Galadriel when she used her power lmfaoooo
Avatars in James Cameron’s avatar has been designed since the late 90s btw. He first had the idea since he was in college when he dreamed of a bioluminescent forest
On your gaming channel play middle earths shadow of mordor and shadow of war great games to be more immersed with the lord of the rings world
ALEX!!! You missed the song during the credits!!!! :(
FYI the new trilogy is on the way, Alex ;) "The Hunt for Gollum" - being made by Andy Serkis this time, with help from Peter Jackson. It'll be set between The Hobbit, and the Fellowship. I'm a little sceptical because there isn't much material by Tolkien about that timegap, but if anyone can do it, it's them. And they don't have the same issues they had when they were making the Hobbit trilogy. (Where a different director started it, quit, and Peter Jackson had to pick up the pieces and glue them together with extreme deadlines)
Thank you so much for this, Alex! Going through all of these extended editions here has been wonderful! I’ve probably said that before but I don’t care, it was true then & it’s true now. I haven’t yet had the pleasure of reading any of Tolkien’s books but I inherited a lot of Tolkien books, DVD’s, & Collector’s Edition merchandise from my brother’s friend who sadly passed away. He was a big Tolkien fan. Never got to talk to him about it much but I did get to tell him I’d seen every movie they had about it in the movie theaters & that impressed him since the only thing I knew about it was the animated movies (which you should watch sometime, whether on here on in your spare time). Anyways, I am very happy that you enjoyed the Hobbit films as well. I feel like a lot of people who are fans of the books don’t like the Hobbit movies because they stretch one book into three movies & add characters that weren’t in the Hobbit book. But since, like I mentioned, I haven’t read the books, I can just appreciate the movies & I really loved them, especially all the Dwarves. I found myself loving each & every one of them & being devastated by the final battle but watching it with you was like having someone help me through the trauma so I appreciate it. I hope you have a great day, a wonderful night & that you dream of having your own place in the Shire like I do. I’d likely be a Wizard there since I’m tall, like to wear baggy clothes & like to smoke 🤣
wholesome fun fact. the goodbye scene between bilbo and the rest of the company was the last time that those guys would be on scene together. after 3 movies and years together like brothers. and the guy playing bilbo wrote multiple of his own farewell speeches for every take they shot, so that he would pull heartstrings and tears from them on every take. he succeeded lol
Please I beg you, keep pausing when you want to talk, you miss so much when you talk over the movies.
Don’t watch rings of power. It’s so bad
Alex was talking (of course lol) during the scene on the mountain pass in LoTR 1 where we see everyone chest deep in snow and Legolas is walking on top of the snow beside them...so the 200 gravity comments I guess is expected...
You should probably watch the show Alex if you’re watching more for the love of being in middle earth. The scale is not as grand as it should be at times and the lore isn’t as accurate as it should be but it’s worth a watch
"thats a crazy incline" brother have you seen any videos of mountain goats? those fuckers are gravity defiant
the animated lotr movie war of the rohirram is quite enjoyable
Uh...does Alex know how Balin ends up in Fellowship? 😬
I have my honey chicken, my cola, the ac set right, my recliner and my tv set to go, let's kick this pig! 😁
Honestly IMO, the show, The Rings of Power, is better than The Hobbit movies.
I really hope you'll watch Rings of Power! While I do think it has pacing issues and it's a bit overcrowded on characters, I also think it's very overhated. Anyway, I think you should watch and draw your own conclusions!
"Hobbit out!" lmao I love it
More Hobbit and LOTR connections: 1. Ori (the youngest of the group and the one who used a slingshot in the first film) was the skeleton that held the book that Gandalf read from in the Fellowship of the Ring 2. The dwarf with the cone earpiece (Óin, who is also Gimli’s uncle) was eaten by the Watcher in the Water (the octopus squid thing that attacked the group, also in Fellowship of the Ring) 3. Balin (the white bearded dwarf who said ‘Poor souls’ at the start of this film) was the one in the tomb in Moria when the fellowship traveled through there 4. Dain Ironfoot was killed during the War of the Ring, around the same time as the Battle of the Pelennor Fields (where Rohan rode to Gondor’s aid in Return of the King) alongside Brand, Bard’s grandson and Bain’s son. The men and dwarves of Dale and Erebor, respectively, only won the battle due to the One Ring being destroyed, which turned the tides in their favor
There is a youtube channel called Nerd of the Rings. You gotta react to a bunch of his videos. They can help explain missing pieces of lore about thr history of middle earth.
let me just say that the reason legolas' fights look cheesy to you is because your forgetting some lore behind elves. in world, they weigh the same as a feather. its why he can do the crazy acrobatic things he can do.
also the end credit song is sung by pippin from lotr
Omg. Alex missing Gandalf’s look at bilbo at the end killed me. 😂🤣
The show is really good and it needs to be your next show with a season 3 coming soon
Im suuuuper hype for this
I think the cheesyness of the movies only become cheesy if you apply our world's logic to it, yes Legolas does defies the nature of humanity, but he's an elf, they can walk on snow, they are incredibly light, have enhanced speed and strength, plus a couple thousand years to hone their skills. My issue with the movies (all 6) and especially the show is that the power of a lot of people are understated, for example the elven army should numbers wise have easily won alone against all of the orcs. And that's the biggest problem of the show, it's set in the glory days of men and everything just looks so meh.
I like that the smaug fight last a little longer than it does in the book, they both happen so quick but the movie added some more which I liked in this case, HOWEVER, bard using his son to aim 1) is impossible and he shouldn’t be able to aim 2) is just stupid af
Also the fact we had to wait after the cliffhanger was so mean it took so long
I remember you already saying Legolas defiled gravity in LoTR lol (he kinda does but it's cool as hell and typical of fantasy ! No point in being realistic he's not human after all !)
It’s criminal that they took out the scene where bilbo plants a seed to show that even after war things still grow and hope is in the future
The show is amazing
The reason Legolas seems to defy gravity is he’s light foot in the fellowship of the ring when they’re in the mountains he’s walking on top of the snow he’s basically weightless
The 5th army is the 2nd orc army. So you have elves, dwarves, men and 2 armies of orc
If made today, LoRT and The Hobbit could either look MUCH better or worse/as bad lol. As a 3D artist, nowadays we're just better at CGI BUT working conditions can make tons of CGI looks horrible because people don't have time and ressources to work properly. Today we have movies with horrendous CGI but also movies with the most outstanding CGI we've ever seen (like Avatar 3, Dune, kingdom of the Apes, etc...)
The CGI quality is indeed inconsistent, sometimes it's phenomenal, sometimes it looks unfinished. The majority of it looks good but the minority that's bad is too visible/obvious. There are also the "cgi people don't care about" because it's not a living being such as locations. Every locations looked gorgeous and it was all CGI but ppl don't talk about it because it's "less obvious" than a bad CGI on a foreground character
Hot take : LoTR trilogy are much better films BUT everything they show in the Hobbit is cooler, if the quality was on par with LoTR it would be a no match. The bestiary from The Hobbit is insane, we see SO MANY different creatures/people and in good numbers. Dragon, spiders, gobelins, orcs, giants, trolls, men, elves, dwarves, wizards, etc... and some of them in different types of the same race, this will never not fascinate me. And we also see more different cool locations. 2nd hot take : yes the hobbit isnt as good as lotr but iI find the story more touching (only my goat sam can make the balance shift)
Its the same shirt that frodo wears but also the same sword “sting”. Bulbo also gives it to frodo in the 1st lord of the rings movie
Love you Alex! I'm so glad we have all the LOTR movies now 😁
Those 9 ring wraiths look SO MUCH BETTER than in LoTR bro I'm love with their armor designs and movements, looks straight from a dark souls game
Alex you gotta watch End of Oak Street!
Alex’s avenged sevenfold joke got me singing hail to the king. 😂🤣. Such an awesome band.
Galadriel is one of the most ancient and powerful Elves in all of Middle Earth. She and Gandalf probably knew one another in the undying lands in the First Age.
Unrelated to the movie because it must be the same in the books but I'm not a fan of the black arrow actually killing a dragon. Like, this small arrow actually ONE SHOT a giant dragon ? It looks like a toothpick compared to Smaug's size, it barely went in his flesh. Unless it had magical properties I'm unaware of that was cheesy as hell
Alex there’s a new hunger games teailer
the 5th army is the eagles if im not mistaken
Hey (A)Lexy-boi, so in the book the 5 armies are men, dwarves, elves, orcs, and wargs. In the books wargs are sentient, however, since in PJ's LOTR movies they were established as bloodlust hounds/mounts of war, that option was off the table. They changed the title from "Battle of Five Armies" to "Batle of THE Five Armies", which is an insanely minute nuance that is barely noticeable, nor indistinguishable, for that matter, but it makes a difference. With that, I'm quite certain that the "5 armies" in question are: the army of men, the army of dwarves, the army of elves, the army of Dol Guldur orcs (where Gandalf was being held before his rescue), and finally, the army of Gundabad orcs (where Legolas and sexy ass Evangeline Lilly went to do recon before returning to the battle) that came closer to the end of the battle. side note: Azog commanding his forces like some renowned Field Marshal from the mountain's crest is SUCH an amazing detail and design choice. Some straight-up Alexander the Greattype shit. Both the horn and the instrument he uses to relay live battlefield commands... goddamn man.... quintessential epicness. Similarly, we follow thee, oh Supremer Gooch-Emperor Alex 🫡 🙇♂️
Absolutely loved the King K Rool Smash Bros reference.
The show may be "Total ass shit" to folks, but for someone who enjoys everything LotR it's a godsend, new season soon too!!
Hello Alex, please ignore the people telling you to avoid the Rings of Power, it's honestly a good show and is overhated by people who nitpick too much. I think you'd love it! It gives some deeper insight into the background of some notable characters as well as introducing you to some important ones too.
I'm sure someone has said this already but in Fellowship of the Ring, the tomb that Gimli is distraught over and crying at is actually Balin's, the very same Balin in the Hobbit! Gandalf also mentions Thorin in one line before that while they're in Moria. As for Rings of Power (the show), I definitely think you could try it out. There's a third season coming out for it in November. Most people can agree it's not the best show, but I will say some people's complaints with it are pretty nitpicky. There definitely are some lame parts, but there are a couple characters that have really badass arcs in my opinion. It has it's problems and inaccuracies but it's the best way for you to get more context of Tolkien's world without reading the books. The books are for sure a better way, but yk this isn't a book reading Patreon (yet...). Another thing you may consider would be to play some of the games! More specifically Shadow of Mordor/War, they're really fun with some unique mechanics, although they're not stories that Tolkien wrote.
and alex you should listen to the songs that are at the end of the movies. Ed sheeran's "I see fire" in the second movie is great. and the song at the end of this movie "the last goodbye" by billy boyd (who plays pippen) is amazing. the music video almost made me cry the first time watching it.
Yelling Smaug randomly has become my new favorite vocal stim
Look, I love LOTR, I enjoy the Hobbit, but Rings of Power really is absolute trash. I'm not trying to be a troll or anything, it just didn't feel like Middle Earth to me, more like fan-fiction. And everything has to be an IP nowadays. I think some things should just be left alone.
Fan fiction! That is a perfect way to describe it. 👍🏻
2:15:40 "Is there gravity in this movie?!" There is. Legolas just doesn't care.
Please watch the show Rings of Power!!
as much as the hobbit isn't exaclt book accurate and heavily cgi and bad parts. I forgot how much I enjoy this movie. Oh and yes the rings of power sucks, please don't watch it.
Although it's very divisive for mostly some stupid reasons I personally feel like, I truly still wil lsay that I definitely believe you would enjoy Rings of Power.
Please react to The Last Goodbye music video!
When will you watch Lord of the Rings, Tarantino Cut with 4h of additional focusing on Hobbit feet? IMO the Hobbit movies are of accurate length, the LotR Movies are just erribly short. 😀
I had one hell of a day at work. So, this has made it a lot better.
Rings of power next prequel lord of the rings show season 3 comes out soon
It wasn't the use of CGI of the time that was the problem on The Hobbit it was the fact Peter Jackson was called in at the last minuteto cover for bloody Guillermo Del Toro, given minimal time to sort it all out, he had to replace almost all of Guillermo Del Toro's designs so that The Hobbit aesthetic flowed with LOTR and then churn it all out with the studio bosses giving him shit. If he'd been allowed to have the same creative control without time constraints that he had for LOTR I think these films would have been absolute masterpieces. As it is the Hobbit trilogy are great films we just got LOTR first and the standard was so high we were spoiled.
The movies still have a large amount of issues even when looked at apart from the lord of the rings. They are fun movies but far from great
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Smaug one of the smallest dragons in the Lord of the rings universe
Yes. If I recall, Angalcon the black (the first dragon to appear) first showed up during morgoths war in the first age, and hes something like 100x smaugs size
Soo when will you watch Lord of the Rings?
Dragon sickness is an interesting thing. No one really knows where it originates from, since it's made up by the movies. There are several theories. 1. The dwarves were made by the Lord of the Earth, Aulë, one of the gods of the world of TLOTR. This could indicate that dwarves are naturally drawn towards the riches of the earth. 2. Somehow the Arkenstone has affected all the riches in the mountain, putting a curse on them. 3. Since Smaug, among other dragons, were created by Morgoth, basically Tolkien's Satan, his greed and lust for riches, especially gems of great power must have been poured into dragons. Morgoth's creations often emit some kind of lasting damage on their environment, so it could be that Smaug has somehow corrupted the gold even more in his presence. 4. Many fans theorize that the Arkenstone is one of the three Silmarils described in Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion', crafted by the elves and containing the light of the Two Trees (Serving as the lights of the world before the Sun and the Moon). These gemstones were a source of troubles in the book, similarily as the One Ring was. It would explain why it corrupts anyone close to it, being that there is a curse of elves lying upon them. But that's a long story. In that case however, it would explain how Smaug knew that it would corrupt Thorin, since he would be full aware of what the Arkenstone really is, being that Morgoth wore the Silmarils as crown jewels.
The Arkenstone is to Thorin as the Ring Of Power is to Gollum. Also fun fact: Morgoth is the source of all evil in Tolkiens Universe. Sauron has always been a servant. Also that was Sauron at his weakest. Ecthelion of Gondor is that Insane Steward’s, from Return of the King, Father, and to be fair to Legolas and his gravity defying stunts. In the Fellowship of the Ring, you can see him walk ON TOP of the snow. Elves are notoriously light.
"That's a weird looking crow." That's because it's a raven, bruh
people who makes you king. you nothing without them
A lot of people have issue with Legolas running on the falling stones in midair, but just like in Two Towers when he swings himself up and over a horse with one hand, and in Return of the King when he’s climbing and swinging along the side of the Oliphant, the reason he’s able to do these things is because Elves, at least his tribe of them, are able to make themselves as light as air for a few seconds, and that’s why he’s able to do that.
Please watch the show! It's so much fun! I don't care that it's only me and a handful of ppl who like it😅
You'll enjoy Rings of Power for a few reasons: 1. You've not read the source material so won't know or care where it strays or condenses the timeline. I'm guessing you haven't and don't plan to read the Silmarillion. It's not like you complained about all of the changes from the books in the LotR and the Hobbit movies in fact, you've actively been enjoying them. 2. You won't complain about "woke" casting because you're not the sort of person to question the skin colour of a fantasy race. Also related, I doubt you care what hair and beard styles races have (or don't have). 3. You always enjoy seeing characters back stories, again, even if it's not source material accurate. You liked Legolas being in the Hobbit for example and he isn't on the book at all. 4. You always seem to like when there is a moral grey area rather than simply being good and evil. The show pushes some of the boundries quite far, possibly a bit too far for some in the upcoming series, but there are some better contrasts than Tolkien's writing. It isn't the greatest show of all time, but it is still really enjoyable and it would be good to see your reaction to the show, especially as it gets such mixed reactions.
Alex speaking japanese to his wife sounds like Trump trying to speak chinese. 😆
@1:17:05 you can see Thorin tearing up at what Bilbo says. There's an intrinsic part of Thorin that knows Bilbo is right, but the dragon sickness takes over him. This is similar to how the One Ring corrupts people. LOTR remade today would be worse.
Rings of Power is definitely not as good as Hobbit or LOTR. The cast is weird and they try to make you feel bad for the orcs, which completely goes against the books and movies good vs evil tone. They also make young Sauron a random dude, even though he is essentially a god. And the overall tone of the show just feels so modern and not like middle earth.
The show doesn't try to do that, it's just the whole thing of how every villain sees themselves as the hero of the story, which is even doubly so in traditional good vs evil stories. And no, they literally don't make Sauron some random dude, clearly you missed something there, that's all I'll say
And now war of the rohirrim 👀
The Rings of Power is a lot of fun!
Rings of Power is just godawful. I even enjoyed the recent animated movie, War of the Rohirrim, but Rings of Power is just a televised abortion of wonderful source material. It's a case study in terrible writing and storytelling across the board.
Glad you finally finished the story
Amazing Movies, Hopefully the next step is the Rings of Power series, I love the show!
I cry every time...
What you need to know about Thranduil is that he was never a bad guy in general. His wife died in Gundabad. The necklace he wanted from the mountain was a gift he had the dwarves make for his wife before her passing. It was the last physical remembrance of his wife left. He became very protective of his people after her death, leading to him hyper focusing solely on his peoples survival. A very great character imo
Ahh man I just wish they did Beorn justice here. He's an absolute fucking FORCE (of nature, lol, quite literally) in the books. Love his design, though. They should've given him A LOOOT more screen time and shown him just absolutely DECIMATING the goblin/orc forces. Dude has a literal genocide (or even a full on extermination? yikes) as fuel, motherfuck wouldve taken down he entire army singlehandedly. Seriously, though, imagine a ton more screen time with him just fucking annihilating not only orcs and goblins, but the massive fucking trolls. ah man, it wouldve been absolutely beautiful. Plus, im pretty sure he's hella old, so he should've been a part of the War Council and been a Field Marshal, dishing out tactics and some nice deep lore dumps. Freaking LOVE me some deep lore. Also, eagles op, again, lol. They should've sent some flying gooches as the bad guy fliers. godspeed Mr gooch 🫡
Not sure if said yet, but it’s Battle of the FIVE Armies because Azog had the second army, led my Bolg. That was the fifth.
Elves are famously light on their feet! In fact Legolas was so light on his feet during the LoTR movies he was seen casually walking on top of the snow in their journey through Caradhras!
Off I go to find the sun!
What hurts about Kili is in the last film where we learnt he has that stone that is a promise to his mother that he'd return to her
Goddamn Lee Pace is one of the most op humans of all time. Dude is a Greek statue incarnate, not just physically gorgeous but intangible just as beautiful as well. Dude has the perfect physique — 6’4 but not lanky and would be 11/10 with a bit more muscle and leaner — has immaculate hair, has a voice that makes you shudder, his eyes and overall facial expressions are immaculate in his roles, he literally has and does it all. Thranduil and the emperor in foundation are his best roles hands down. You couldn’t draw a more perfect thranduil, and you could tell that Pace studied the movements of and elf, the cadence, the mannerisms, the haughtiness, just fucking everything. Pure perfection. His scene in the tent with Gandalf is one of my favourites. He thinks Gandalf is this whack job and thranduils little gazes over st Bard during the conversation fucking kill me LOL oh man it’s so fucking funny. Perfect execution my god Surprised Alex hasn’t added him to his “I’d fuck that guy” list bahahaha.
I still see him as a corpse reviving pie maker though. I miss that show.
Elves weigh next to nothing in this universe, which is mostly how legolas can perform his feats of bullshittery, although they are still slightly bullshit
Can we spoon next time mmm zaddy
Most of the gore in the movie is actually only part of the extended edition, which is rated r but the theatrical release is pg 13
If your going to watch the show i still think we will watch it with you. Even if it's shite
Elves can defy gravity because they weigh 20 to 30 pounds.
Sam is a great hobbit, but Bilbo will always be my favourite.
On a rewatch of fellowship of the ring if you watch again (in your free time or a reaction) watch out for all the hobbit references cuz there’s a lot especially in the first hour of the movie while they’re in the shire
Seeing how you enjoy Star Wars shows that some people claim to be horrible, I think you will enjoy Rings of Power! It's not perfect, but it's very entertaining and I honestly loved it
also Alex idk if you figure it out yet or not as im not finished with the movie yet but the 5 armies are 1. Orcs 2. Elves 3. Dwarves 4. Men and 5. Wargs (the orcs war dogs) just a nice little fun fact for ya lol
that's the five armies in the book specifically. The movies have 2 orc armies instead of having 1 orc army and one warg army so in the movie the five armies are: Wood Elves, Dwarves , Men ,Gundabad (Orcs) , Dol Guldur (Orcs).
The more I watch these reactions, and the more questions Alex asks, the more I want him to watch the Rings of Power. He would learn so much
“I don’t know who the five armies are” nobody does bro nobody does
the show is pretty mid. not the worst thing ever, but it doesnt even come close to the movies.
The Five Armies Mirkwood (Elves) Ironfoot (Dwarves) Laketown (Men) Gundabad (Orcs) Dol Guldur (Orcs)
huh, i always thought the orcs were one army and the eagles were another
And so...comes an end to our journey.
Now you've finished, you should look up where all the dwarf company end up. You actually see them in Lord of the Rings films.
I just realized after watching this that Gloin was the the Council of Elrond with Gimli.
Damnn its 7am, I can't wait to watch this later today :D
The show you are refering to is the Rings of Power and it will get season 3 soon. People that say its ass are 80% in either of these few categories. Its either people that are deep in the lore saying its digressing too much, people that dont like warrior woman Galadriel. Or people that only dont like it because some others dont like it. But when you want to see the creation of the rings and the rest of the chaos of the second age then you can give it a shot, I like it and when you watch it I think you will too as far as I can tell from your tastes. Your call
Agreed. Alex rarely “dislikes” things and I don’t think he’s the kind of person to hate something like RoP
Benedict Cumberbatch unreal performance as Smaug
Alex please I beg you, forget that Rings of Power even exists. On its own it's not the worst show you'll ever see, but if you loved the Hobbit and the original movies and ESPECIALLY if you've read the books then I can guarantee you'll absolutely hate it.
You don’t “guarantee” he’ll hate it. Do you not know Alex at all? He would like it regardless. Maybe don’t compare it to the films and appreciate the lore and storytelling that we got.
Sweet! Thank you so much! All the best!
It’s still crazy to me that they turned a few characters of a children’s book into a nearly 3 hour R Rated movie 😭😂. I’m sure this is gonna be a blast of a reaction tho.
Please watch LASTKINGDOM NEXT😭😭😭
Fucking epic show bro. Love me some Uhtred of Bebbanburg
this ones extended cut is honestly too short.
I can’t stand this movie, so many horrible flaws, however really happy that you enjoyed it. That’s all that really matters anyway.
