Question: By "$30 contribution", does that mean you need to be on the $30 level to unlock it? Or do you mean that is a scene that was created with involvement of a $30 contributor?

I'm not sure I see the point of the hard reset. Looking at the conversion code, all you really need to do is update the call to compare_versions() at the top to exclude all versions prior to 0.29.00, then remove everything but runupdate_0_29_00. Then people can continue their games without restarting at 0.30.00, and can convert older saves by using 0.29.00 first.
Because you'll have stored data that is depricated, that could cause issues later.
