Wishlists, the Algorithm, and Grind

๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ Let's begin by saying: Thank you ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ

The first 2 weeks of wishlisting went over our expectations!
We're off to a solid start, and it's all thanks to you!

Today I wanted to go a little meta and talk shop, for anyone interested. Prepping for the QoC release sent me down a research rabbit hole on how Steam actually works. Here's the gist:

  • In the pre-release window, Steam rewards games that rack up wishlists with exposure ("Popular Upcoming", "More like this" and so on) and then pushes them hard at launch.

  • Wishlists lose a lot of their punch once release day passes. And while plenty of people claim to know the exact numbers you need to hit, the truth is nobody really knows Valve's cutoffs for sure.

  • Speed beats total. A burst of wishlists is what gets you flagged as "Popular"! The total still matters a lot, but just like everything these days, an explosion of engagement beats a slow, steady trickle.

  • The launch-day spike is everything. All those wishlists convert into a burst of attention on day one, and that burst is what buys us the "New & Trending", the discovery queue, the front-page shelves...
THAT'S how we get the total strangers! That's how people who've never heard of us, of P&C, or QoC, end up stumbling onto us.

  • The snowball effect. Visibility โ†’ players โ†’ buzz โ†’ even more visibility. The wishlists you add now are the fuel for that whole chain reaction later.

  • Here's YOU. Your single wishlist doesn't feel like much, but nothing here gets rounded down to zero. Every wishlist adds to the speed! You're not one drop in the ocean here.

On an indie release, every drop is visible ๐Ÿ’ง

A tiny commentary: Steam is getting taken over by loads and loads of sloppy eroge made with AI art, and I guess there's no helping it until it's regulated strongly; after all, it's the market that decides, and the customers will buy whatever they want... but that's exactly why your voice matters more than ever.

We're a real (and tiny!) team, drawing every frame by hand, animating every scene ourselves, writing everything on our own, and pouring years into a world we actually love! Our (and your) Kingdom! That's not going to change, regardless of how the market will change.

So we're reaching out to you, our supporters, for the one thing that (I believe) will cut through all the noise. Every single wishlist tells Steam that handmade games still have a crowd behind them! It's the biggest push you can give us on the road to launch.

NICE WALL OF TEXT BRO! TL;DR

The pitch ๐Ÿ˜›! Wishlisting Queen of Clubs:

  • ๐Ÿ†“ Costs nothing!

  • โŒš Takes 5 seconds!

  • ๐Ÿš€ It's the single most powerful thing you can do to help QoC on Steam!

Just click to wishlist to get the word out! We'll handle it from there!
